Also, many thanks to everyone who bought me coffee (*≧∀≦*)
The woman was lying face down with half of her face turned to the ground. Luckily, there was a canopy at the entrance of Tianxiang Pavilion, and the ground was covered with a carpet, so it wasn’t too hot or hard; otherwise, she might have been badly hurt or scorched.
Xu Fengxian stepped forward, crouched down, and gently brushed away the hair from her face.
When she saw the side profile of the woman, Xu Fengxian gasped in shock.
Good heavens, where did this fallen celestial being come from?
After running a brothel for years, along with her experience managing an opera house, Xu Fengxian had never seen such a stunning beauty.
Her clothes were a bit shabby…
And she was dressed as a married woman.
If she wasn't a maiden, her value might drop a little.
But with a face like that, it wouldn't matter. Some clients preferred mature women with charm.
"Bring her inside!" Xu Fengxian instructed the servants.
"Yes."
Her personal servant girl, Yinxing, called a few strong female servants to carry the woman into the main hall.
The second floor was full, so they had to place her in a private room in the backyard for now.
Gu Chengfeng had just returned from outside, and his carriage stopped at the stable next to the backyard. As he entered through the back door, he immediately saw the servant girls and older female servants of Tianxiang Pavilion carrying a woman dressed like a commoner.
He frowned, "Stop right there."
As a favored person in Tianxiang Pavilion with a powerful "brother" backing him, even Xu Fengxian didn’t dare to oppose him directly.
Yinxing and her group stopped with awkward smiles.
Yinxing greeted him, "Young Master Chang."
Xiao Heng had borrowed Long Yi’s name, and Gu Chengfeng had borrowed Chang Jing’s name——neither of them were honest men.
Gu Chengfeng glanced at the woman being carried by the servants. Now he understood why Xu Fengxian was suddenly so charitable, taking in a random peasant woman—she turned out to be a beauty!
Yinxing laughed awkwardly and explained, "This lady fainted at our building’s entrance, and Madam Xu kindly had us bring her in to wait for her to wake up."
Gu Chengfeng snorted, "Humph, Xu Fengxian is probably planning to force her into prost.i.tution, isn’t she?"
Yinxing couldn’t argue.
After all, that was exactly the way her mistress operated.
"This woman, I’ll take her."
There was no way Xu Fengxian would simply release the woman, but if Gu Chengfeng claimed her for his opera troupe, Xu Fengxian probably wouldn't mind too much.
After all, Tianxiang Pavilion’s current success relied on his performances.
"Well…" Yinxing hesitated for a moment, then said, "Alright, I’ll inform Madam Xu. But this woman might not know how to sing opera."
Gu Chengfeng said firmly, "Whether she can or not, I’ll be the judge. Before I test her ability to sing, no one is allowed to touch her."
It wasn’t an unreasonable request. Xu Fengxian could come and listen to her sing when the time came. If she couldn’t perform, they could always send her to serve clients later.
Yinxing instructed the servants to carry the woman into a private room.
Gu Chengfeng had a performance tonight, so he had to start preparing.
As soon as he left, Yinxing immediately ordered the four servants in the room, "You all, keep a close watch on her. When she wakes up, report to me right away. Don’t let her escape!"
If she escaped, the madam would flay them alive!
One of the servants patted her chest and said, "Yinxing, don’t worry! We’ll keep a tight watch on her! She won’t step a foot outside this room!"
......
At the hour of yous.h.i.+(5-7pm), cla.s.ses at Tianqiong Academy ended.
Zhong Ding and Zhou Tong, along with six others, met up with Gu Jiao and Gu Xiaoshun at the academy gate.
They had even prepared carriages, three in total.
The other six people were divided into pairs of three, while Zhong Ding, Zhou Tong, Gu Jiao, and Gu Xiaoshun would share one carriage.
Just as Zhou Tong stood beside the carriage, motioning for Gu Jiao and Gu Xiaoshun to get on first, Yuan Xiao and Zhao Wei emerged carrying their bookbags.
Yuan Xiao was from the Mingfeng Hall, while Zhao Wei and Gu Xiaoshun were cla.s.smates in Mingyue Hall.
Seeing that Gu Jiao and the others looked like they were going on a trip, the two of them simultaneously walked over to Gu Jiao.
Yuan Xiao asked, “Liulang, where are you all headed?”
Gu Jiao answered straightforwardly, “To Tianxiang Pavilion.”
Yuan Xiao was stunned, “T-Tianxiang Pavilion? Why are you going to a place like that?”
Wait, why was he even surprised?
This kid went to a brothel on his very first day in Shengdu, didn't he?
Yuan Xiao lamented, “Didn't we agree last time that if you went out to have fun again, you'd take us with you?”
Gu Jiao: I’m not going there for fun, though.
Zhong Ding cleared his throat, “Ahem, it’s an opera house, not a brothel!”
Yuan Xiao scoffed, “Same thing.”
Shengdu did have opera houses solely for watching plays, but Tianxiang Pavilion definitely wasn't one of them.
Its former life was a brothel; they just changed the sign and brought in an opera troupe to continue the business.
“Are you going or not?” Yuan Xiao tugged at Zhao Wei’s sleeve, trying to pull him into his camp.
Zhao Wei said with a feigned seriousness, "Isn't that a bit inappropriate? We are scholars and shouldn't linger in places of pleasure." He then s.h.i.+fted his tone, "But Liulang is still young and unfamiliar with the area. If he insists on going, we should fulfill our duty as hosts."
Gu Jiao: “...”
You also aren’t from Shengdu, right? You’re from Qidu!
Zhao Wei nudged Yuan Xiao and said, “You’re from Shengdu. You entertain him.”
Yuan Xiao puffed out his chest, “Fine, I’ll do it!”
With the addition of the two of them, Zhou Tong and Zhong Ding were outnumbered and reluctantly went to the other two carriages.
Once inside the carriage, Zhao Wei shot a strange glance at Gu Xiaoshun and asked, “You’re going too?”
Gu Xiaoshun nodded, “Yes, Liulang said he’d take me to see it.”
Yuan Xiao patted him on the shoulder with a meaningful expression, “Liulang’s hometown friend is my hometown friend too. Don’t worry, I’ve got everything covered. You’ll be satisfied!”
Gu Xiaoshun looked puzzled, feeling like something was off.
As the carriage drove on, Zhao Wei suddenly spoke in a low voice, “Hey, have you guys heard? Something happened to the Han Family.”
Yuan Xiao asked, “The Han Family? You mean Han Che’s Han Family?”
There were many prominent figures from the Han Family—Imperial Consort Han, Old Master Han, General Han, a.s.sistant Minister Han, and so on—but since they had only encountered Han Che during the polo match, he was naturally the first one they thought of.
Zhao Wei nodded, “Yes, Han Che’s family. This afternoon, I helped the teacher carry some exam papers back to the office. While pa.s.sing by Dean Cen’s office, I overheard him discussing the Han Family with Teacher Wu and a few other teachers.”
“What happened exactly?” Yuan Xiao, being impatient, couldn't stand Zhao Wei's slow pace.
Zhao Wei cautiously replied, “The second master of the Han Family has died.”

Description:
In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the s.h.i.+ family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succ.u.mb to darkness amidst hards.h.i.+p and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.
When s.h.i.+ Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the s.h.i.+ family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.
The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.
From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.
***
Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like s.h.i.+ Dai.
After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"
s.h.i.+ Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"
s.h.i.+ Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”
s.h.i.+ Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
