Chapter 1361: Chapter 1361: Marrying into Our Family
Zhou Hengguang rolled his eyes in a way that was very much at odds with his image and said mockingly, “Big brother, you’re clearly overthinking it. Being so anxious doesn’t suit you at all.”
Zhou Hengyang scoffed, “And what about you? Sitting by the roadside wallowing in self-pity, does that suit you?”
“Which eye of yours saw me wallowing in self-pity?”
“Both eyes did,” Zhou Hengyang glanced at his brother, showing no mercy with his words, “Got in over your head, didn’t you? Didn’t expect to fall so hard?”
Since his predicament was already exposed by Big brother, Zhou Hengguang didn’t bother to hide it anymore, “Yeah! It’s the first time I’ve ever gotten in over my head, and it’s really taken its toll.”
“So, the more you’re in over your head, the harder it is for you to let go,” Zhou Hengyang commented as someone who had been there, “You should never joke around with matters of the heart. If I had known earlier, I would have stopped you.”
“So, are you here to stop me now?”
“Pretty much,” Zhou Hengyang frowned and spoke deeply, “Your sister-in-law has been looking at pictures of a lot of men recently, preparing to personally pick a brother-in-law. It’s so sour it’s hard to ignore.”
“Choose a brother-in-law?”
“Yeah, choose a brother-in-law, and she’s planning to pick two at once. He Changming from Clear Water County doesn’t even know yet! He’d be frantic if he found out.”
“Big brother, aren’t you being too unfair? Who’s your real little brother here? Instead of caring about me at a time like this, you’re concerned about someone who’s unrelated,” Zhou Hengguang said indignantly.
“Hehehe…” Hearing his brother’s words, Zhou Hengyang let out a m.u.f.fled laugh, his voice laced with barely detectable fondness, “Can’t help it, you brat have never been up to any good since you were little. I wouldn’t want to marry my little aunt off to you, let alone Wenwen.”
“But that doesn’t mean you should turn your elbow out,” protested Zhou Hengguang.
“But I do admire He Changming’s character and integrity, he’s my kind of guy. Forget it with you, we’ve never been on the same page since we were kids.” Despite being blood brothers, Zhou Hengyang really disliked his little brother’s scheming and his bellyful of mischief.
The main problem with the guy was his unpredictability; n.o.body knew what he might end up doing. Working with someone like that was like carrying around a ticking bomb.
If he weren’t his own brother, Zhou Hengyang wouldn’t bother to exchange another word with him.
Zhou Hengguang’s lips twisted into a sardonic smile, “In that case, you’d best not say such things in the future, or else you’ll harm others.” From now on, He Changming was on his blacklist.
“It would serve them right if He Changming couldn’t marry Su Xiu. And if he did, I, as Second sister’s husband, wouldn’t let him have it easy,” he vowed.
Zhou Hengyang was taken aback, “Little brother, aren’t you thinking too far ahead? And a bit too optimistically? As far as I know, Su Qing hasn’t forgiven you, let alone restarted anything with you. Right now, you two aren’t even friends. Oh, and if you want to marry into our family, there’s a huge obstacle: Wenwen’s not an easy one to get past.”
The two brothers hadn’t sat down for a chat together in a long time. Now, sitting by the roadside, bantering and undercutting each other felt inexplicably warm and nostalgically endearing. Once upon a time, the three brothers would often gather and jest around.
Ever since the second one left, they all changed.
Before they knew it, more than an hour had pa.s.sed, and Zhou Hengguang suddenly s.h.i.+vered uncontrollably. A coat, still warm from someone else’s body, was promptly draped over his shoulders.
It was Zhou Hengyang who had taken off his own garment to give to him.
