Chapter 1007: Madman
Khan had little to no experience fighting against evolved warriors. He had sparred with Bruno, but the soldier's unclear loyalties had forced him to hold back on some of his best abilities. Besides, Khan had barely scratched the surface of that superior realm back then, and the battle merely wanted to test his techniques' efficacy.
Senerth's mission had brought a qualitative change to Khan's skill set and understanding of his element, but he had lacked worthy opponents. The planet's monsters were fearsome but looked no different than cattle before Khan's power. He couldn't test whether he could stand his ground in the higher realm there, but the chance to fill that knowledge gap had finally arrived.
Lord Mighty's battle prowess was unknown, but Khan could pick up on obvious clues. The Royal Guard was among the Empire's best, and his appearance hinted at extreme physical proclivity. The evolved Thilku wouldn't break so easily, and Khan would only disrespect him if he held back, so he didn't even try to.
Moreover, Khan was on Zedekiel now. He didn't need to hold back to hide his abilities from potential enemies. If anything, that was the moment when Khan had to show off.
From Lord Mighty's perspective, the foot didn't immediately slam on his wrinkled forehead. It seemed to slow down before the impact, pus.h.i.+ng on something invisible and harnessing a strange energy that made his skin crawl.
Of course, the kick was far from slow, and Lord Mighty's mistaken notion didn't allow him to dodge it. Khan's heel slammed on his forehead, and his mountainlike existence moved and shook.
Khan had unleashed everything. He summoned the Transcendent Step's top speed, enhanced it through Maban's technique, and harnessed his mana's destructive influence. That was nothing short of the best kick he could perform, and Lord Mighty's innate defenses couldn't do anything to stop it.
The black floor shook, and the air shattered as Lord Mighty flew backward, his vision spinning. The Thilku's shoes slid over the metal surface as his very existence trembled. Shallow cuts opened on his forehead as destructive energy seeped into his body, piercing the very nature of his being, but that didn't even come close to toppling him.
Lord Mighty unleashed a deafening cry, his lungs seemingly carrying the same strength flowing through his huge muscles. That simple, instinctive shout was no different from a sound attack, which dispersed the destruction pervading his body. He also violently spread his arms, halting his backward motion.
That respite lasted less than a second. As soon as Lord Mighty stopped, something slammed on his cheek, flinging him away once again. However, the Thilku didn't let his vision spin now and turned his face while attempting to disperse his momentum.
Lord Mighty's reaction had been immediate, but Khan was faster. By the time the evolved Thilku looked to his right, Khan was already upon him, his descending heel aiming for the bald part of his head.
The attack was unavoidable, so Lord Mighty didn't try to dodge. He forcefully bent forward, gritting his teeth while letting the descending kick slam on him. His skull shook, and more shallow cuts opened on his head, but the impact stopped him in his tracks.
The kick had stabilized Lord Mighty's stance. He didn't need to waste time stopping himself anymore, so he used that opportunity to counterattack. His fist began to rise, threatening to unleash an unfathomable amount of explosive power, but the blow ended before even attempting to take shape.
Something slammed on Lord Mighty's lower back. His legs went numb as his body slid forward, but another attack landed on his upper chest before he had time to react. Those almost simultaneous blows made him bend backward, finally threatening to topple him, but far scarier scenes filled his eyes.
Khan was on Lord Mighty, his foot still on the alien's broad chest. His body followed the Thilku's descending momentum while purple-red light enveloped his left hand, turning it into a short blade. Khan had already lowered his arm, and his destructive spell was less than half a meter from Lord Mighty's face.
The timing had been perfect. Lord Mighty had quickly gotten used to his opponent's speed and developed countermeasures, so Khan had chained two different attacks, destabilizing his balance to create an opening for the finis.h.i.+ng blow.
Khan wasn't playing nice. He had no ill will toward Lord Mighty, but the Empire was testing his existence. Khan felt he had to prove something to the Emperor and himself and blow off some steam while at it.
The descending, glowing short sword could end Lord Mighty's life. Khan only needed to hit a vital spot and let his element handle everything else, and his moves matched those intentions.
Targeting the throat would be safer, but Khan didn't underestimate Lord Mighty one bit. The top of the Thilku's rectangular head was slightly closer, so Khan aimed for that since it would take less for his attack to reach it. The difference was in fractions of a second, but that could be enough for the alien warrior to react.
Khan's perfect timing and unfaltering killing intent still led to miscalculations. Lord Mighty's fist had partially risen during the previous exchange, and the abrupt stretching of his fingers generated a storm.
It was astonis.h.i.+ng and unbelievable. Lord Mighty had only opened his hand, but his existence stretched past his physical limits, and Khan was in its range.
Each of the evolved Thilku's six fingers displaced the very air, sending explosive energy upward. Lord Mighty's existence had something to do with his physical prowess, and his aura conveyed it without requiring direct clashes.
Khan felt as if a gargantuan punch had appeared between Lord Mighty and him. The attack would arrive earlier than his spell, and its width prevented diagonal dodges. He could only retreat at full speed, hoping to be faster than that explosive energy.
That hope partially shattered. Khan rose through the air at full speed but still felt the need to cross his arms before his face and cover his body with the [Blood s.h.i.+eld]. He avoided the most violent phase of the enemy attack, but something hit him anyway.
Khan felt as if heavy punches had landed simultaneously over his whole body. The [Blood s.h.i.+eld] held strong, but his insides shook while the lingering explosive energy pushed him
upward.
Khan's whole body tensed up to endure that violent impact, but his opponent didn't give him time to recover. He was high in the sky, but Lord Mighty suddenly appeared before him, his ma.s.sive arm ready to deliver a proper punch while a heated expression filled his face.
Lord Mighty's sudden arrival didn't come from special techniques. The symphony told Khan as much. The madman had simply jumped, chasing after him in the sky to exploit that
opportunity.
