Chapter 2375 Demonstrating Strength
Fang Heng asked, "For example? What are the specific objectives of the mission?"
"The surrounding area has several small nations that have always been at odds with the Kingdom of Horus. They are all lackeys of the Holy Court, and their entire nations are under the control of the Holy Court's faith. The King of Horus has tolerated them for a long time and now hopes that we will demonstrate our strength and give them a proper lesson."
As he spoke, a game hint appeared on Fang Heng's retina.
[Hint: The player has triggered the mission-Demonstrating Strength.]
Mission name: Demonstrating Strength.
Mission description: As a newcomer, the young King has not heard of your name and does not believe in your abilities. It is time to show everyone your strength.
Mission requirements: Inflict damage on several neighboring countries hostile to the Kingdom of Horus to earn corresponding contribution points until the contribution points acc.u.mulate to 200,000.
Mission reward: Friends.h.i.+p with the Kingdom of Horus and resource support from the Kingdom of Horus.
Fang Heng glanced at the game hint and asked, "Are these countries very powerful?"
"They are just a few small nations with relatively weak overall strength compared to all the countries on the continent. However..."
Ryan paused and continued, "Even though they are small, each has high-tier knightly orders under their rule. Additionally, all these countries unconditionally follow the Holy Court, so most cities have Ecclesiastical Templars stationed there. This makes handling them quite challenging. If they detect any traces of undead, it could cause a lot of trouble."
"I understand."
As they spoke, the three of them exited the cave.
The cave was located at the highest point of a mountain range.
Fang Heng looked down at the mountain range in the distance and asked, "You mentioned this is the border of the Empire. Beyond this is the enemy nation?"
Wallace pointed into the distance and nodded, "Yes, ahead is the White Bamboo Princ.i.p.ality. It used to be one of the leading large empires on the continent but has now completely fallen. However, the empire still has an elderly sword saint protecting it, which is why it has managed to survive until now."
"Alright, then let's choose them!"
Fang Heng immediately selected the White Bamboo Princ.i.p.ality as the target.
"Alright, then let's choose them!"
Fang Heng immediately selected the White Bamboo Princ.i.p.ality as the target.
He was very aware that the pursuers from the Holy Realm were right behind him, leaving him only 24 hours.
If the Holy Court discovered him, news of his presence might spread, and the time before the Holy Realm's pursuit could even shorten.
Therefore, he needed to act decisively and quickly—either not act at all or strike with overwhelming force to resolve the issue in the shortest time possible!
"Well..."
Wallace and Ryan exchanged glances.
Was it really that casual?
In their view, choosing the White Bamboo Princ.i.p.ality as the mission target was not a wise decision.
The White Bamboo Princ.i.p.ality was protected by a sword saint, and the border had natural barriers as a defense.
More critically, there were only a few small cities in the White Bamboo Princ.i.p.ality, and each city was garrisoned by the Holy Court's troops.
However, it seemed that Fang Heng had already made his decision.
Well, let's first see how strong Fang Heng really is and then plan the next steps.
...
At the border of the White Bamboo Princ.i.p.ality, the setting sun cast a golden glow over the landscape.
On a sentry post, a few imperial guards leaned casually against the wooden railing, chatting and joking to pa.s.s the time.
Life on the border was indeed quite monotonous.
A ma.s.sive canyon and mountain range separated the two small countries, effectively dividing them. Any attempt at a direct a.s.sault would result in significant disadvantages.
Thus, despite the occasional formal ritual between the two nations, they were rarely affected by one another's conflicts.
While the imperial guards continued their banter, one of them suddenly noticed something. He squinted into the distance and rubbed his eyes, "Hey, look over there! What are those red dots?"
The others followed his gaze and quickly noticed the strange phenomenon.
What could those be?
The mountain range was dotted with numerous red spots.
It looked as if some creatures were rapidly climbing up the mountainside.
The vice-captain of the guard picked up a nearby telescope and directed it toward the mountains.
"What are those monsters?"
Upon closer inspection, the vice-captain felt a s.h.i.+ver run down his spine.
From the distant mountain peaks, numerous red life forms rapidly emerged, crawling swiftly along the ground and rocky walls.
There were so many of them!
The vice-captain of the imperial guard's heart sank as he immediately realized, "This is a serious threat! Sound the alarm!"
The guards quickly responded.
They had been stationed in this region for years, and never before had they seen such creatures emerging from the mountains.
And to make matters worse, they were coming in such large numbers!
It was clear that something serious was happening.
Within moments, the alarm sounded throughout the camp.
In less than half a minute, the entire mountain range was swarming with Lickers.
From their vantage point on the sentry towers, the imperial guards saw the creatures pouring down the mountainside like a relentless tide.
Their target was the imperial border defense line set up in the border region!
The guards felt their skin crawl with fear.
"Prepare, aim!"
The magical crystal cannons, positioned on high ground around the sentry towers, were activated. They aimed their barrels at the encroaching swarm of Lickers.
"Fire!"
"Boom! Boom! Boom!"
The large magical crystal cannons roared to life, their beams of magical energy striking the incoming horde with intense force, causing the earth to shake violently!
The cannon fire exploded, creating ma.s.sive craters on the mountainside, and the explosion clouds shrouded half of the mountain range in thick dust.
As the dust began to settle, the faces of the imperial guards turned pale.
What?!
This was impossible!
To their shock, as the dust cleared, the Lickers emerged from the very craters created by the cannon fire, seemingly unscathed!
What kind of monstrous creatures were these?!
The magical crystal cannons proved ineffective against the Lickers!
The captain of the imperial guard was in a state of panic, shouting, "Quick, use spells! Where are the mages? Use spells to keep them away from the defensive line!"
The team of mages quickly began casting spells, hurling magical attacks at the approaching Licker swarm.
Yet, it was still futile!
Colorful ice shards and fireb.a.l.l.s exploded among the Lickers, creating impressive visual effects, but they failed to inflict any real damage.
The attacks were completely ineffectual against the Lickers!
The captain even witnessed a Licker being struck head-on by over a dozen spells, flying through the air after the impact. It then rolled and leaped in mid-air, only to have its wounds heal instantly as it landed, resuming its charge toward the defensive line.
What kind of creatures were these?
Neither physical nor magical attacks seemed to have any effect on them!
Even more terrifying was their speed!
The Lickers darted between the mountains with incredible swiftness, seemingly unaffected by the terrain. In a matter of moments, they had crossed the cliff and were closing in on the imperial camp's defensive line.
This was unsustainable!
The captain of the imperial guards, sweating heavily, racked his brain for a solution.
With the Lickers moving at such a speed, even a retreat would likely result in being overtaken and devoured along the way. The situation was rapidly deteriorating, and the defenders were in grave danger of being overwhelmed.
