Chapter 573: Androgens Were Not Sensitive
Chief Zhou sat beside Li Sumei and asked politely, “Chief Li, how many cases of this disease have you treated?”
“I did research in Sorcery Capital and the research team itself has gone through at least twenty-two cases.” Li Sumei smiled and replied very gently, “After I went home, I completed one case on my own.”
“You did it yourself?”
“Yes.” Li Sumei nodded, and her expression was a little proud.
To be able to complete one case on her own was already very impressive. Chief Zhou was even more at ease.
At first, he was worried that Li Sumei had also hired a professor to complete the treatment. If that was the case, there might be some problems with her understanding of the disease and possible solutions to deal with it.
Many places had hired professors from Sorcery Capital and Imperial Capital to perform a high-difficulty surgery and never touched upon another case again. Chief Zhou was worried that Li Sumei’s side was also in the same situation.
The hospitals in the Provincial Capital were much better than Sea City General Hospital but compared to Cla.s.s Three Grade A Hospitals in the Imperial Capital and Sorcery Capital, they were far from enough.
For a rare disease like Reifenstein syndrome, there was indeed such a possibility.
Fortunately…
Chief Zhou felt that his luck today did not seem too bad.
The presentation was long and the internet speed was very slow. It looked like it would take one or two minutes to download. Chief Zhou picked up the phone and called the operating theater, asking Department Chief Sun to wait for him.
Zheng Ren and Su Yun were sitting behind him. They were very bored.
Once again, they were looking forward to the emergency department’s arrival.
However, Zheng Ren knew that Hu Hai and Li Sumei were here to thank him. For his sake, they did their best to help Sea City General Hospital.
If she turned around and left right there and then, it would be a little unreasonable.
After Li Sumei’s course was downloaded, she began to give Chief Zhou a simple introduction of Reifenstein syndrome.
The disease was explained in layman’s terms. The patient’s genetic test showed that the chromosome karyotype was 46 XY, which was the male gene. However, their physical features were completely female.
The androgynous pseudohermaphroditism caused by androgen insensitivity syndrome meant that the patient needed psychological counseling. However, Li Sumei suggested that there was no psychological counseling required at all and that the patient should just accept it.
Since the patient thought that she was a woman from a young age, she would modify the patient according to her gender.
In that case, although there might be a problem if she did not tell the patient, would it have actually helped to tell them either?
Zheng Ren never thought about such questions in terms of medical ethics.
Everyone had their own reasons. Subconsciously, Zheng Ren refused to think about such things that had no answer.
He had to focus his energy and attention on the key points, such as TIPS surgery.
After listening to Li Sumei’s brief introduction, Chief Zhou’s eyes were wide open.
Chief Zhou also considered Li Sumei’s suggestion. He was prepared to call the patient’s parents there alone to explain the situation to them and let them make their own decisions.
After all, Chief Zhou had never seen a professional working on psychological counseling.
Most of the clinics in the Northeast that had psychological outpatient clinics were actually bullsh*t.
He could not say the same thing for the South since he did not know the place as well.
After he formulated the plan, Chief Zhou started to busy himself.
The abdomen was temporarily closed on the operating table and the patient was returned to the ward. He called the patient’s parents to the demonstration room alone before introducing Li Sumei to them.
At first, the patient’s family expressed their dissatisfaction. Some relatives and friends who did not know their place even started pus.h.i.+ng and shoving each other, cursing and swearing.
However, under Chief Zhou’s repeated insistence, the patient’s parents still agreed to Sea City General Hospital’s arrangement.
When they entered the demonstration room and heard that she was the department chief of the gynecology department at the First Affiliated Hospital of Provincial Capital Medical University, the patient’s parents were obviously more nervous.
They had a premonition that something big was going to happen when the surgery was delayed. The arrival of the department chief from the Medical University confirmed this.
Chief Meng first explained the procedure before making a judgment. When they heard that their daughter was actually a boy, the parents were stunned.
They did not expect the matter to be so serious.
However, it was necessary to tell the truth about the patient’s condition. Otherwise… They could not be treated like idiots to the truth.
At that moment, the patient’s parents finally understood why they were the only ones called in.
Other than the parents, no one could keep a secret.
Once the people around the patient knew about the disease, they would definitely look at the patient through colored gla.s.ses.
Gossip would spread like wildfire.
It was then that it would truly cause irreparable harm to the patient.
For now, everything was still under control.
Because the patient had already left the stage and the emergency had been dealt with, what was left was for the patient’s parents to decide whether to tell the patient themselves about this matter and also what gender they could decide on in the future.
In the end, Li Sumei gave her business card to the patient’s parents and said that if she was needed for a consultation, they could come to the medical university to look for her. There was no need to register.
If she wanted to have surgery, she could choose to do it at the medical university or Imperial Capital. If she wanted to go to the Imperial Capital, Li Sumei could introduce professors to them but the cost of surgery would definitely be higher.
In the face of such thoughtful and considerate care, the patient’s parents expressed their grat.i.tude with tears in their eyes.
After working for more than two hours, the patient’s parents were finally sent away.
A big disaster was nipped in the bud.
Actually, from a normal point of view, it was not a major disaster at all.
However, with the current social situation, Chief Zhou knew very well that Li Sumei had helped him a great deal.
Chief Meng sent the patient’s parents out to take care of the patient after the operation.
Department Chief Sun’s face was still pale.
In the past few days, Department Chief Sun had been dealing with a lot of things, so much so that he felt that it was the end of the world.
To think that he would encounter such a rare disease while doing a hernia…
Although the treatment was very good and the explanations were in place, the patient’s family also expressed their approval and actively sought future treatment. However, Department Chief Sun was completely exhausted. He sat on the chair with a pale face and chugged down half a bottle of mineral water. It was only then that he felt slightly better.
Hu Hai expressed his understanding of Department Chief Sun’s behavior.
The moment he pushed the guide wire along with the contrast agent, Hu Hai felt like the sky was falling on top of his head.
“Chief Li, Chief Hu, on behalf of Sea City General Hospital, I would like to express my grat.i.tude for your help.” Chief Zhou had a thousand words in his heart and did not know how to say them.
“Chief Zhou, you’re too polite.” Li Sumei smiled and said, “It’s just a matter of convenience. It’s not a big deal. We are also here to thank Teacher Zheng. If you’re too polite, what should we do?”
Zheng Ren was very embarra.s.sed. Logically speaking then, he should stand up and say something to make everyone feel as if they were being bathed in a spring breeze.
However…he was not sure how to go about it…
Seeing that Zheng Ren was a little embarra.s.sed, Hu Hai immediately stood up and said with a smile, “Chief Zhou, we’re all on the same side. There’s no point in saying thank you or not. You must be scared too. Quickly find a place to rest.”
These were truly heartfelt words.
Chief Zhou sighed and said, “To tell you the truth, what I hope the most now is to move up half a step and hand over the work of the medical affairs department. Now it’s like sitting on a volcano every day. I don’t even have a dream in my dreams.”

The case was selected from a hernia magazine.
