Chapter 55 - He suddenly… really wanted to know what 1 looked like.

Edited by Noks

As soon as the weekend finished and work started again, certain people were burdened by their family into rus.h.i.+ng over to Yida Group, with all family members in tow.

Intruding guests who couldn’t be stopped at the front doors were mostly just for show in TV dramas. Even though this family was very aggressive, they were still stopped in the lobby by the front desk.

In the conference room, a staff member was reporting the weekly status report while trembling from fear. Only from time to time did they dare to sneak a glance at the boss sitting at the head of the table. The other party just kept looking at the doc.u.ments in his hand, and so he had no idea whether the boss had actually listened to his report or not.

The atmosphere, which had become very imposing and heavy, was disturbed when there was a faint sound of a vibration.

Yi Chen finally moved his eyes away from the doc.u.ment, picked up his cellphone, looked at it, directly hung up the incoming call, and then turned it off.

“Forgot to shut it down, sorry.” He said, “Go on.”

“No-no-no problem!” The employee hadn’t expected to suddenly receive an apology from the big boss, and so was shocked. “Why don’t you answer the phone first? We can wait a moment, it’s fine.”

“No.” He frowned. “Go on.”

The employee didn’t dare to say anything more and simply continued to report.

After two hours, the meeting ended. As soon as he came out, his secretary came up to him and said, “President Yi, outside…”

He raised his eyes and asked, “Still there?”

The secretary paused, not expecting him to know about the situation before she could make her report. “Yes, still there.”

“En.” Yi Chen tossed the doc.u.ments into her hand. “We have to change our security company.”

The secretary didn’t dare to ask anymore or agree with his statement, and just followed him with her mouth shut.

She didn’t know whether her boss really meant to change the security company or not; it was just like what had happened with the recent large-scale reorganization at StarTV — when her boss had seen the information that had been gathered on them, he had said lightly, “Change them all out ba.”

At first, she thought she had heard wrong; StarTV’s internal organization was complex and wasn’t something that could be changed in a short time. Unexpectedly, they held three consecutive meetings that night, and the kill list came out the next day.

She heard that there were people surnamed Yi on that kill list. They were the emperor’s kinsmen, but he just fired them anyway. The big boss’ relatives were even waiting downstairs for him right now.

Back in the office, Yi Chen directly took out his cell phone and dragged the number of the person who had been crazily hara.s.sing him during the meeting into the blacklist.

Just after he did that, another phone call came in.

This time, he couldn’t hang up the call.

He left the papers on the table, went to the window, picked up the call, and said, “Mom.”

Mother Yi’s voice was gentle. “What are you doing?”

“Just finished a meeting.”

“En, I’m calling to talk to you about your third aunt.”

“Mom.” Yi Chen said lightly, “Let’s not talk about work.”

“… Alright ba.” Mother Yi said, “We won’t talk about work, but regarding the lawsuit, your father and I think that since we’re all relatives, just forget about the lawsuit ba. It won’t look good to have infighting in our own family.”

Yi Chen replied, “We’ll see ba. We have to wait to figure out exactly how much he squirreled away before we can talk about other things.”

“Okay. Are you going to other provinces today ba? Rest more, read less computer files in the car, it’s too easy to feel dizzy from doing that. Understood?”

After hanging up, Yi Chen turned and went downstairs. The security guard had received a warning and was working very hard right now. He had already driven everyone away, and so it was nice and quiet.

The car was already waiting outside. Although he normally liked to drive himself, when it came to long distance trips, he preferred to spend his own time doing something else.

When the driver saw him coming out, he hurried to help him open the door. Yi Chen threw the papers inside and was about to sit, but he felt something and looked back.

He saw nothing there.

The driver called out, “President Yi?”

Yi Chen retrieved his gaze and turned to sit inside.

On the highway, he flipped through two pages of information. Reading felt kind of tiring after just having finished a meeting. He just glanced at the rest of the doc.u.ment before closing it.

He hesitated for a moment before taking out his earphones.

The person in the livestream was just in the middle of the final circle. Even though he was in a hurry, he still didn’t forget to greet him. “1, did you have lunch?”

He was about to open his keyboard to reply, when an unknown number called him. He never replied to unknown numbers, so he just cut the call.

“What’s the matter with the car in the back ah?” The driver looked in the rearview mirror and whispered, “We’re on the highway, but they still dare to follow so closely…”

Yi Chen said, while wearing the headphones, “Then just let him pa.s.s first.”

Following his orders, the driver flicked on his turn signal, left the fast lane, released a bit of the accelerator, and reduced the car’s speed to 65.

The car behind them didn’t even seem to think before it followed their change of lane while keeping the force exerted on the accelerator as much as before, and the distance between the two cars reduced and became too close. In a few seconds, it was nearly pressed against their trunk. Looking at how close the car in front was, the driver of the car in the back was stunned for a moment, but it was too late to step on the brake&#k2014;&#k2014;

Bang, the car in the front was. .h.i.t hard—it flipped over directly, and fell on the side of the highway.

When Yi Chen opened his eyes again, all he saw was a field of white.

“Holy s.h.i.+t, am I an immortal descending down to earth that you wake up just after I arrive?” As soon as Mo Nancheng put down the flowers in his hand, he saw the person in the bed staring at him. “Wait a minute ah! I’ll get the doctor!”

As his friend went out, Yi Chen silently took stock of himself.

All four limbs were still there, his body didn’t hurt, but his head was a little dizzy.

Nothing serious.

When the doctor on duty came in, he saw that the patient had already sat up. “Lie down first ba; these next few days, try not to move around too much.”

“En,” Yi Chen said, only then noticing that his throat was a little dry. “How badly was I hit?”

Mo Nancheng was listening on the side, and he truly felt that his friend was awesome.

When had anyone, especially someone who had just experienced a car accident, gotten up and asked calmly how badly he was. .h.i.t? Can the doctor say that the collision was very good and give you a full score of 10?

Unexpectedly, the doctor nodded. “You’re alright. The seat belt was fastened, and the traffic accident wasn’t too big, no injury, no blood, just a concussion.”

“En, then how long until I can be discharged?”

“We’ll observe some more. If there are no signs of a cerebral hemorrhage tonight, you can leave the hospital by tomorrow.”

After the doctor left, Mo Nancheng clicked his tongue. “It’s over just like that?”

“Otherwise?” Yi Chen glanced at the flowers beside him, his face filled with dislike. “Take these away.”

“Why ya, they look so nice.”

“Then you take them and give them to your girlfriend ba.”

“…”

Mo Nancheng decided not to continue this topic. He sat on a side chair and said, “Yi Ran has been guarding you all afternoon, he just left. His eyes were red, and he looked really miserable. Your parents called and told me that they have booked tickets to come back to China. They won’t be going to any of the exhibitions or concerts, and they’ll be here by tonight.”

Yi Chen leaned back and let out an “en.”

Mo Nancheng stepped forward. “Also, do you know who hit you?”

“Yi Sheng.”

“…You even know that?!” Mo Nancheng clicked his tongue and said, “He said you fired him and served him papers. He got frantic and just wanted to talk to you face-to-face, but unexpectedly, you suddenly braked your car, and he accidentally ran into you. He’s still at the police station right now.”

“Then let him stay there.” Yi Chen raised his eyebrows and thought of something. “How long have I slept?”

“Not long, just…” Mo Nancheng looked at his watch. “Seven or eight hours, just in time to have a midnight snack.”

“Where’s my cell phone?”

“Here.” Mo Nancheng took it out of his pocket and handed it to him. “It vibrated all afternoon, my a.s.s is pretty much numb.”

Yi Chen ignored him. After opening it, he directly ignored all the work messages and missed calls he saw on the phone, and instead clicked on WeChat.

Sure enough, the person who jumped to the front of his screen had sent many messages.

Little Anchor: Why did you leave all of a sudden?

Little Anchor: Play games together tonight?

Little Anchor: …Can I see Yanyan tonight? Of course, if you’re busy, then it’s fine.

There wasn’t much content in each of his messages, but he had sent one every few hours.

From across the screen, he could feel the sense of loss the other party experienced as they didn’t receive a reply.

He looked up at the time. It was already twelve o’clock, so the little anchor should have already stopped livestreaming.

1: Not busy, but I may not be able to show him to you tonight.

It only took about a second for the other party to reply.

Little Anchor: Why, is he asleep again?

1: I’m in the hospital.

Little Anchor:???

Little Anchor: What happened?

1: There was a small car accident.

He thought about it and then typed: Not injured…

Before he could finish typing, a voice call initiated by the other party popped up.

Mo Nancheng heard the phone ring and was stunned. “It’s the middle of the night, who would voice call you… Little Anchor?” He stared with wide eyes. “It’s the person from Manyang……”

Yi Chen said, “You head back first ba.”

“Hey, I’ve been guarding you here for such a long time, but one voice call and you’re making me go la?”

“Thanking you this time.” Yi Chen continued, “Will invite you out to eat another day.”

Mo Nancheng snorted and replied, “Okay bei, then I’ll come back tomorrow. What flowers do you want tomorrow?”

Yi Chen picked up the flowers beside him and threw them into his hands. He hissed, “Scram ba, don’t disturb the other patients in the middle of the night.”

Only after he left did Yi Chen pick up the call.

“How did you get into a car accident? Where were you injured? Is it serious? Are you in the hospital?” Yu Yan’s tone was tense, and he already couldn’t cover up any of his emotions. “Is there anyone watching over you?”

For some reason, even though he had still been a little tired after waking up, but after hearing this voice, he felt much more awake.

Yi Chen laughed and said, “It’s okay, I was just about to reply to you. It’s just a concussion; I’ll be discharged tomorrow.”

Yu Yan breathed a long sigh of relief, as if his whole body had relaxed. “…that’s good.”

After a long time, he murmured, “That’s so great.”

Discerning his mood through his words, Yi Chen frowned and asked, “How can you be so scared?”

“No, I’m not scared.” Yu Yan returned to his senses. “….in the future, you have to be careful on the road. You couldn’t have been watching my livestream while driving ba?”

Yi Chen laughed. “What do you think?”

The other side was silent.

Yi Chen was shocked and said, “Of course not, don’t overthink it. It was the driver who was driving the car.”

Seeing that he still didn’t speak, Yi Chen couldn’t help but laugh. “Will you believe only after I call the driver to testify for me right now? It has nothing to do with you… Where are you? Why is it so noisy on your side?”

Originally, Yu Yan had been lying on his blanket. However, when he had seen the words “car accident”, he had become uneasy. By now, he was already standing outside, taking in the cool breeze.

He rubbed his fingers and said, “I’ve opened the window, so there’s wind.”

Yi Chen propped up his pillow and leaned back. “En, I’m afraid I can’t play games these next two days.”

“That’s fine, you take care of your injury first,” Yu Yan said, then suddenly thinking of something, he lowered his voice and asked, “Is there anyone else in the ward? Did I just wake them up?”

“No, independent ward.”

“That’s good.” Yu Yan continued, “Then I’ll hang up, and you rest up well?”

How could he just hang up like that?

“I just woke up, and I can’t go back to sleep now,” Yi Chen replied.

“Oh…” Yu Yan licked his lips. “Then we’ll chat?”

Yi Chen let out a gentle “en” from his nose.

Yu Yan turned around, walked down the stairs, and suddenly thought of something. “Today, a new administrator came to my stream, No. 28. Seems like he just started the job.”

“Is he good to you?”

Yu Yan laughed. “He’s here to supervise my livestream, why would he be good to me? Just feels like… he doesn’t talk much, and does things more straight-forwardly ba. As soon as he came, he sent me several doc.u.ments, saying that these are the new rules of the company. I still haven’t finished reading all of them.”

“A lot?”

“En, it’s long and smelly. Sometimes I wish I could run up to the boss and give him advice. I’ve been livestreaming for only half a month, but I could give him enough suggestions to fill a basket.”

Yi Chen said, “…then why don’t you mention it?”

The nervousness and anxiety from just now had completely disappeared with a few words, and Yu Yan’s tone had relaxed a lot. “I dare not, I provide for myself under his hand… I only dare to grumble in front of you.”

Hearing the sound of tiny steps, Yi Chen asked, “Have you gone out?”

“En.”

“It’s so late, what are you going out for?”

“Buy a pack of cigarettes.”

Yi Chen frowned. “You smoke?”

Having watched him livestream for so long, Yi Chen still really hadn’t discovered that he had such a habit.

“En, I used to like smoking, but I haven’t smoked for a long time.”

When his parents had just pa.s.sed away, it was hard for him to survive without cigarettes. Later, he lost the habit because he had no money to buy cigarettes.

But tonight he felt that his heart was itchy, and he really wanted to have one.

Yi Chen really couldn’t imagine what it looked like for the young man to pick up a cigarette.

It might be both bad boy and childlike—like a primary school student who was forced to dress up like an adult ba.

“Since you already haven’t smoked for a long time, then just quit, don’t buy it.”

Yu Yan didn’t really have to smoke, so he laughed. “Then what am I going to buy now?”

“Yogurt.”

Yu Yan obediently went to the convenience store to buy a bottle of yogurt and asked him, “Bought it, do you want to check?”

Yi Chen directly turned on his camera. “Checking.”

Yu Yan was stunned. He had just said so casually and hadn’t expected that the other side would actually turn on the camera.

It was all white in the background— white wall, white sheets, and white curtains. It felt like you could smell the disinfectant wafting from across the screen.

He put the yoghurt in front of the camera, his throat twitching.

He suddenly… really wanted to know what 1 looked like.

He hadn’t wanted to see 1 before, because he was afraid to destroy his mental image of him.

Now, he wanted to see because he wanted to remember a complete image of 1.

Otherwise, in the future, whenever he thought back on the first person he had ever liked, he would only be left with the voice and the image of the other party’s suit—which would count as what exactly.

“1….”

On the other end of the video call, the door was suddenly opened, and the ward nurse, on her regular rounds, came in with a flashlight in her hand. “Why haven’t you slept yet? You just had a car accident, now you need a good rest.”

Yi Chen replied, “En, I’ll sleep after talking.”

“What can’t you talk about tomorrow? Quickly go to sleep, I’ll pour you a gla.s.s of water. Look, your voice is hoa.r.s.e.”

“Okay.”

After the nurse left, Yi Chen took a sip of water and asked, “What did you just want to say?”

“Ah… Nothing.” The courage he had plucked up just now had long disappeared. He had yoghurt in his mouth, and it was sour and sweet. Yu Yan said, “I wanted to say… Can you give me your address?”

Address?

Yi Chen raised his eyebrows. The little anchor… wanted to come visit him?

This request was somewhat unexpected. At least right now, he wasn’t ready to meet the little anchor.

He wasn’t very good at dealing with people who liked him. If the little anchor really came, then he couldn’t treat him the way he had treated those other people in the past…

Yu Yan wasn’t defeated by the silence that reigned this time. Seeing that 1 hadn’t replied, he asked again, “Okay?”

Yi Chen took a deep breath. “I’ll send it to you on WeChat, you remember it.”

Juurensha: !!! Will yanyan really come to visit?? And yes Yanyan, listen to Boss Yi, don’t smoke! (Also wait with the car accident–I mean I’m glad Boss Yi is okay, but a car flipping should probably cause more injuries??? Also, is the driver okay????)

Noks: Ohhh… Will they meet? Poor Yu Yan, he doesn’t think his crush will pan out. Pat pat, Don’t worry Yanyan, Boss likes you too… <3
