While they made their way to the car, Chen Yi appeared upset. She glanced at Li Luxian through the corner of her eyes. The moment she had spent with this man would swell her up with vigorous confidence. By just having him stand behind her, she was certain she could challenge the whole world without breaking up.

But just now, she had just insulted that man's childhood friend.

Even though Li Luxian made it clear that he could abandon w.a.n.g Hualing, even take over their enmity to stand by Chen Yi's side, w.a.n.g Hualing had, after all, known him since they were children.

On the other side, Chen Yi had only known him for what? A month.

w.a.n.g Hualing appeared so confident today. She must have hoped that Li Luxian and Li Guang would side with her. That meant, before Chen Yi, her relations.h.i.+p with the 'Li' family was amiable.

In addition to this, the w.a.n.g family had intricate Business a.s.sociations with the 'Li' family. Having offended w.a.n.g Hualing, Li Luxian would most certainly suffer difficulties in the company.

For all these losses, Chen Yi held herself accountable. 

Getting into the car, Chen Yi cleared her throat to say the words she prepared to apologize to Li Luxian. But before, she could utter a single word, Li Luxian beat her to that.

"Why did you not ask father to bring out our family punishment manual and give that w.a.n.g Hualing what she deserved." He complained; his expressions hardening somewhat holding her accountable not for being hard on w.a.n.g Hualing but for being soft on her.

Whatever Chen Yi was about to say got stuck in her throat.

She coughed a couple of times. "That — Would that have been appropriate?"

"Why would that be?" Li Luxian expressions said as if he really didn't understand why would that have been inappropriate. "She dared to insult you. Getting her the family punishment would be the least of what I would have done to her."

Chen Yi gulped and stared at that eccentric man. "What if — What if I was the one who had pushed her and tricked you guys into believing the opposite?"

Li Luxian t.i.tled his head pondering over her words. Then, he gazed into her eyes with a smile. "I would have cheered for you in the background." His expressions were totally serious as if he would have really done that.

For the man who saw everything filtered with rose-colored gla.s.ses, there was nothing wrong with that logic.

Chen Yi: "..."

She sighed: "Congratulations, you just have upgraded another level up in flirting."

"Whatever I said came from my heart." 

"You are not getting up another level. By the way, buy me a new phone because I lost mine to your family drama!"

Fu Jianguo slammed his hands over the table resulting in a loud bang. His eyes filled with relentless fury. His expressions were particularly scary capable of startling a being in his vicinity. "That shameless b*tch! She would not give up no matter what happens would she?"

"B-Brother Fu..." Chen Ying shuddered, apparently terrified at Fu Jinaguo's violent temper as she stepped back in shock. Her soft and docile appearance capable of touching the soft side of a man's heart and invited their protection.

When Fu Jianguo's eyes fell upon the delicate woman, his heart wrenched in guilt. His expressions changed; he immediately engulfed Chen Ying into his warm embrace. "I'm so sorry... Did I scare you?" His tone was soft akin to the mellowness of warm coffee.

  A man who appeared to be like a raging beast a moment ago was now an affectionate fiance soothing his lover. "It's just that that b*tch infuriates me so much! If not for you, I would have long sent people to get rid of her once and for all!"

Fu Jianguo meant what he said. 

"Brother Fu, let's not be rash." Within his embrace, Chen Ying soft voice whispered. 

Because her face was buried in his chest, Fu Jianguo was incapable of seeing the flash of venomous glint that pa.s.sed across her face. In her heart, there was a flicker of hatred towards that man who held her in his embrace.

For Chen Ying, he was just a stepping stone. Chen Ying always had high ambition. How could she settle for someone as low as Fu Jinaguo? No. He was just a chess piece to get her what she wanted. 

Once he expended his worth, he would be discarded.

Once Fu Jianguo let her go, he saw Chen Ying saddened expressions. His heart ached at the sight. "Ying'er how many times I have told you to not place any hopes on that hateful person. I am not a little bit surprised that she said those disgusting words to my mother. Since she could not get her filthy hands on me, she would certainly use such underhand tactics to make me yield to her." Said Fu Jianguo; each word seethed immense hatred he had for Chen Yi.

"Brother Fu..." Chen Ying whispered. "It's just, I still can't bring myself to believe this. Yang Mi, tell me, please. Is that really what Chen Yi had told Mother that day when she had visited her behind our backs? Could it be, by any fortunate chance...you were wrong?" Chen Ying's eyes were full of naive hopefulness.

Yang Mi was an old servant by the side of the Mistress of the Fu family. Since the Fu family was rather rich, Fu Jianguo's mother, Xu Yuyan had several personal maids and attendants to attend to her needs. Yang Mi was her highest maid who spent most of her time with Xu Yuyan.

"I might have aged but I won't dare be neglectful on such an important matter. Chen Yi never intended to let me hear what she had come to say to the Elder Mistress that day. It happened so that I was sent away to bring her refres.h.i.+ng on Mistress order. When I returned, I paused at the door and heard their conversation.. Chen Yi was indeed trying to convince Mistress to give up on Young Master Fu and groom the second master Fu to inherit the company."
