Chapter 73 - Who Must Be Puinshed?

Li Guang's face showed obvious signs of disapproval at her words. He was seeing more and more of this w.a.n.g Hualing bad side. She was truly not how she had presented herself in front of the 'Li' family all those years.

"Haha..." all of sudden, Chen Yi let out a soft laugh. "Ling Jie seems to give pretty much importance to those family rules." She casually threw a remark.

Within her deep eye, there wasn't the slightest notion of fear. Instead, her eyes were enriched with derision towards the person before her.

"Is that a matter to laugh?" For some reason, Chen Yi cool laughter unnerved w.a.n.g Hualing. A little uncertainty appeared in her heart.

But who was w.a.n.g Hualing? Would she let this little discomfort to make her back off? 

"Yes, Li family rules have always been revered not only in this household but all those wealthy families that look up to them. If Yi Jie does not even hold those rules in high regard, then I am afraid people might criticize you."

Li Luxian was about to speak up but Chen Yi squeezed his hand and cued him to keep his silence. Li Luxian shut his mouth and glanced at his wife with confusion apparent in his eyes.

Chen Yi gave him a rea.s.suring smile. Li Luxian nodded in understanding and backed off. Since Chen Yi already had a plan, he would not ruin it. He would just enjoy from the sidelines.

Their little exchange was fairly discreet and short. w.a.n.g Hualing failed to observe.

Instead, all she saw was that Li Luxian didn't come forward to Chen Yi's defense. He even stepped back from Chen Yi, releasing his hold on her. w.a.n.g Hualing was thrilled to observe this. 

Her confidence blew up and she decided to say some more words to build up some pressure upon Chen Yi. "Even if those rules implicated Elder Li, he has still followed them and went by the punishment in the past. However, if Yi Jie simply denies complying, wouldn't that undermine Elder Li?" w.a.n.g Hualing continued to throw her astute remarks without any restrain.

"Then..." Chen Yi said with a slight smile. "Would Ling Jie also follow those rules and go with the punishment if she was proven guilty?"

The second those words were said by Chen Yi, w.a.n.g Hualing froze.

It had been w.a.n.g Hualing that had pretended to fall to frame Chen Yi. As far as she knew, the punishment for deception was more severe than the punishment for violence in the 'Li' family rules.

One second paused...

Two seconds paused...

w.a.n.g Hualing quickly stabilized her heart. "I would certainly." Her tone was firm, her eyes resolute.

After all, no matter what Chen Yi could not prove that w.a.n.g Hualing had faked being shoved. At that time, both of them were alone in the lounge. There had been no third party that witnessed their interaction. 

Besides, Chen Yi might have been able to gain that low-cla.s.s Li Shanguaan, but Li Guang was, after all, a son of n.o.ble birth. There was no way she would have managed to gain his approval.

w.a.n.g Hualing was certain when to came to decide between w.a.n.g Hualing and Chen Yi, Li Guang would side with her.

"Fine, I hope Ling Jie doesn't go back on her words later on." A subtle smile flickered on Chen Yi's face. Her bold conduct constricted w.a.n.g Hualing's heart with self-doubt.

When w.a.n.g Hualing noticed how a.s.sertive Chen Yi was, her heart skipped a beat. Wariness emerged from the depth of her heart. 

If that trash actually had some unscrupulous means to prove w.a.n.g Hualing guilty — w.a.n.g Hualing shuddered while imagining the consequences.

w.a.n.g Hualing was someone who put the utmost importance on her public image. If that succ.u.mbs succeeded and the word got out — the humiliation that would ensue would be a nightmare to her. "Chen Yi, if you try to exploit some underhand tactic—"

"What I am about to put forth is most definitely not some underhand tactic." Chen Yi said. Her words followed a low chuckle. An air of arrogance surrounded her and made her appear lofty. "It's just that — Li family Manor is fairly big. I just had kept my camera on to memorize the pa.s.sages for the next time. Just at that time, I happened to b.u.mp in Ling Jie." Chen said slowly taking out her phone.

Realizing struck w.a.n.g Hualing like a lightning bolt. Her chest tightened in fright. She let out a shocked gasp. "Y-You lowly sc.u.m!" w.a.n.g Hualing panicked and started to throw insults.

w.a.n.g Hualing had always been like this. Whenever the situation would slip out of her hands, she would not be able to keep a cool head. To this day, she had been able to present a favorable image of herself in front of the 'Li' family because she had never faced a situation where she lost control. Thus she always maintained a gentle and endearing demeanor.

She had been very careful, taking in mind not to have any interaction with Chen Yi at the places equipped with surveillance cameras.

But how could she have imagined? That hateful wench would have her mobile camera on!

w.a.n.g Hualing would never admit. She would never let anyone find out. 

With frenzied thoughts, w.a.n.g Hualing leaped forward, s.n.a.t.c.hed Chen Yi's phone, and threw it on the floor, successfully breaking it. 

At her sudden action, everyone was speechless.

Li Guang was the one who was most shocked. At one point in the past, he had been forcing his son to marry this w.a.n.g Hualing. But right now, he felt an elated sense of grat.i.tude towards that Chen Yi from saving their family from that — Li Guang had no words to describe w.a.n.g Hualing anymore.

His favorable impression of w.a.n.g Hualing was completely shattered.

It was Chen Yi who broke the silence. "Coughs.... Ling Jie, you do realize that at that time when you fell down to frame me — the video was actually being saved in the SD card?"
