Chapter 2519 Life Scale
Ziran pointed below, and gathered everyone's attention.
Right in the center of the Flood Dragon's body was a pedestal holding a small golden cage within which an Indigo wisp hovered. As soon as Lin Mu saw this he couldn't help but rub his forehead.
"It had to be right there huh… guess it wasn't going to be any bit easy." Lin Mu muttered to himself.
"The Flood Dragon doesn't seem to be any signs of being awake right now, so it might not be as bad." Someone from the group said. "But we have no idea if it would awaken later." Another person chimed in.
Both their words were correct as the had no idea how the Flood Dragon would react, if it could.
"It might not even awaken considering how long its been here." Daoist Chu spoke. "I mean, if it is the same Flood Dragon as the murals, just think of how long it has been here for." He added.
"That's right. It would have been hundreds of thousands of years." Ziran agreed. "But that also means its cultivation should be quite high." Lin Mu furrowed his brows as he thought about it. He knew that Dragons were long lived creatures and even when their cultivation base was low they still had longer lifespan than most cultivators. In fact, just upon birth they were immortals and already had a longevity of several tens of thousands of years.
This would only increase as their cultivation base grew and the gain they would have in their longevity was also greater than cultivators.
For example, if a cultivators only gained an extra thousand years after overcoming an Immortal Tribulation, a Dragon could potentially gain five or even ten thousand years depending on how talented they were. This was why they were considered so fearsome and strong, and matching them was so difficult. The very basic starting line for humans and dragons were realms apart.
Of course the Dragon in front of them was not a True Dragon and was just a Flood Dragon which would fall under the category of a Wyrm as one could see it having two forelimbs but no hind limbs or wings.
But the Flood Dragon in front of them was not simple at all if its size was anything to say.
'Even if it has managed to reach the Transcendent Immortal realm, it should have lived more than a couple hundred thousand years. How is it still here?' Lin Mu couldn't help but wonder.
"It's probably in a preserving sleep." Xukong spoke. "In order to save its longevity it has entered the Dormant state. Though considering its aura right now, I wouldn't say it had much longevity left anyways. It probably entered the dormant state as a last measure before its lifespan ran out.
If you want to check further, take a look at its Life Scale." He explained.
"Its Life Scale? Where is it located for a Flood Dragon?" Lin Mu asked.
"It will be the first pentagonal scale behind its horn." Xukong replied.
The Life Scale was similar to the Reverse Scale of a Dragon and both were precious to the dragon. But unlike the Reverse Scale, the Life Scale was not a weakness and was instead a scale where the vitality of the Dragon was best represented.
The condition of the Life Scale was the representative of the longevity of the dragon and was similar to the age rings of a tree.
Lin Mu took a closer look and spotted the Life Scale with some difficulty.
It was ten times smaller than its other scales and was hidden well among them. Unlike the smooth Dark Blue scales on the Flood Dragon's body, the Life Scale was rather rough. If one looked closely they might even see some cracks under it and faint veins appeared pulsating along it.
"That's not good, is it?" Lin Mu asked.
"It's not." Xukong confirmed. "It definitely preserved the last bit of its longevity and entered the Dormant State. Though even for that it has managed to last for quite some time, any other Flood Dragon would have pa.s.sed away despite that.
It looks to have been here for at least three hundred thousand years or more." He estimated.
"Three hundred thousand years!" Lin Mu was shocked as this was the oldest beast he had seen so far with some obvious exceptions.
"So what do we do?" Crown Princess Shang asked.
"We could s.n.a.t.c.h it quickly and leave." Lady Kang suggested. "It's not like we can turn back empty handed after coming all the way here." "That's right." Lin Mu nodded his head. "We have to get it." He agreed.
They had already prepared to right terrifying foes and now that there was an obstacle in front they couldn't just give up. "Everyone prepare for a fight," Crown Prince Feng Shun ordered. "As soon as Daoist Lin Mu grabs it, be ready to defend."
"Yes!" Everyone replied.
Once everyone was in position, Lin Mu steeled his mind and descended. He landed on the seaweed covered floor and walked towards the pedestal. The body of the Flood Dragon was coiled around it, but due to its size there were large enough gaps that Lin Mu could just walk in.
Everyone watched with bated breaths as Lin Mu took step after step. Even though they couldn't breathe right now and had been holding their breaths, they still went through the mental process of it.
As immortals they could hold their breath for hours, unless of course they were forced to breathe for some reason. And even then they had enough talismans to give them air to breathe if needed. Lin Mu soon reached the pedestal and there had been no reaction from the Flood Dragon making everyone relieved.
"He's there."
"Looks like the Flood Dragon is really dormant." But just as Lin Mu extended his hand to touch the golden cage, his companions words seem to have turned into a jinx.
"What do you think you're doing, human?" An elderly hoa.r.s.e voice could be heard.
