Chapter 144 Before the misunderstanding
“What’s wrong with your eyes? Why are you blinking all the time?” Manla bantered with Gu Yan for her expression.
“Well, I won’t beat around the bush.”
“Is it about Mo Yichen?” Manla had a hunch that it was Mo Yichen who made Gu Yan drunk every time.
“I told him to check my design draft this afternoon. Everything went well at the beginning, but…” Gu Yan spoke with excitement at first and then she was upset.
“Why don’t you invite him to your office?” Manla put down the chopsticks in her hand and said to Gu Yan with a serious and cold look.
“I was available this afternoon, so I thought I could invite him out and get to know something about Xiangyan.”
“Anything else? Hey, Miss Gu Yan, I have been your friends for several years. You just told me part of the story.” Looking at Gu Yan’s smile, Manla felt funny.
“What are you talking about? What else could I talk with him?” Gu Yan pretended to be calm.
“Well, sooner or later, you will tell me personally. What happened then? It sounded like something unpleasant happened afterwards.”
“Mo Yichen saw the ring on my finger. I don’t know why he was angry. I was explaining my design draft to him out of kindness. Was it wrong to do that?” Gu Yan sobbed.
“Hey, wait a minute! I don’t get it!” This was the first time that Gu Yan cried since she and Wen Yunfeng got divorced.
“Why are you still wearing that ring? Are you giving up the rest of your life or something?” However, Manla asked Gu Yan about the ring.
“I forgot to take it off. I wanted to return it to Wen Yunfeng that day. But I was too emotional to forget it.” Gu Yan’s eyes widened as if she remembered something suddenly.
“Did Wen Yunfeng come to see you that night? Why did you lie to me?” Manla was so angry that Gu Yan didn’t told her that. She thought Gu Yan distrusted her.
“Don’t get me wrong. I just don’t want you to worry about me. I regarded that as a farewell meeting and I didn’t tell anyone.” Gu Yan explained in a hurry.
Seeing how sad Gu Yan was, Manla couldn’t help complaining about her. Gu Yan always bore all the consequences alone.
“It’s okay. I hope this is the last time you lied to me. Actually, this is the last warning!” Manla comforted Gu Yan who was silent.
“I’m okay. I just can’t figure it out. Why was Mo Yichen unhappy when he saw the ring?” Being at a loss, Gu Yan pointed at her ring and took it off.
“This means he cares about you. He has feelings for you. Don’t you understand by now?”
“Which kind of feeling?” Gu Yan looked at Manla doubtfully.
“Well, I don’t know what to say. But now, I know why Wen Yunfeng felt that you were silly.”
“I mean, sometimes you just can’t figure it out.” Manla changed her tone for fear that Gu Yan might lost her thoughts.
“I mean, don’t play dumb with me. Be honest.” Manla knew that Gu Yan must have known Mo Yichen’s affection for her, so she asked her tentatively.
“Mo Yichen and I are totally different, and I know clearly that we can’t be together.” Gu Yan drank half a bottle of beer.
“Although I tried my best to overcome any mistakes, I still decided to leave.” Gu Yan made Manla confused again.
“You mean you were playing dumb? Are you serious?” Manla was surprised again.
“I know Mo Yichen’s affection for me, but I can’t accept his love for the sake of both Xiangyan and myself.”
“No wonder you didn’t take the ring off your finger.”
“Actually, I do want to keep a way open for retreat. Like Chen Qian said, Mo Yichen and I are not very well matched. He kept my child and I got the chance to live. That’s enough for me.”
“But how about Mo Yichen? Is he willing to live with a woman he doesn’t like? Will that woman be nice to your child?” Gu Yan was puzzled for a long time.
“Manla, please keep this between us.” Gu Yan worried that Mo Yichen might know.
“Why?”
“Mo Yichen hated others for cheating him.”
“I thought you could forget mundane love, but the truth is you still care about him even if you got hated. You are such a silly girl, Gu Yan.” Manla hated Gu Yan for caring herself less. Gu Yan always prepared for the worst. As Gu Yan’s girlfriend, Manla felt that she was useless.
“Don’t worry about me, Manla. I just don’t want to keep my secrets from you, so I told you about that.” Gu Yan said calmly.
“I’m fine. I’m just glad to know you are okay. I remember you said that you want to recruit new employees, didn’t you?” Manla changed the subject quickly in order not to make Gu Yan sad.
“I want to open a branch. With all the orders I received these days, the workers are not enough. I have to open up a new market. That’s what I want to tell you this afternoon.” When it came to work, Gu Yan was excited.
“What? Don’t you know that you still need to think about a lot of issues? The risk, capital, budget, location and others. Have you thought about these?” Manla listed many aspects for Gu Yan.
“I figured these out a month ago. I have insurance to face the risk, and I can loan money from banks as the capital. As for the location, one of my old friends had helped me with it.” Gu Yan thought if Manla agreed, she could start her plan immediately.
“So, you are ready, and you just come to tell me about it, right?” Manla pulled her ear and thought she misheard.
“Relax, my girlfriend. I won’t start it without your approval.” Gu Yan hugged Manla.
“I don’t buy it.” Manla pretended to be surprised.
“Believe it or not. Anyway, I’ve discussed it with you, and I regarded it as your acquiescence.” Gu Yan cleaned up the tableware.
“When will you start?”
“It should be in the second half of the year. I need you to support me at that time.”
“I will start it as soon as possible.”
“It seems that you are leaving me. I’m so distressed.” Looking at Gu Yan sadly, Manla turned to the sofa.
“In fact, I am very angry. You didn’t tell me in advance about such a big decision. Am I still the one you love the most?” Manla pretended to cry.
“Fortunately, you are with me. Otherwise I wouldn’t become who I am now. Thank you.” Gu Yan looked at Manla who was lying in her arms, and could not help smoothing her hair.
