The next day I woke early just as the sun was rising. I raised my body to feel how cold it was outside of my bed. It felt so cold, as soon as I felt the cold, I fell straight back into my bed and pulled the fur tighter over myself to try and keep more of the warmth near me. Then I closed my eyes slowly drifting back into sleep.

Splas.h.!.+ I woke up in a flash as I felt cold water cover my body. As the water was dripping off my hair I looked up, seeing my brother laughing his head off. He had the bucket in his hand.

"Calum!" I yelled at him as I jumped out of bed. As soon as he saw me move he sprinted off out of my room. Just as I was going to leave my room, I realised that the clothes I had on were soaked and that you could see straight through them. Blus.h.i.+ng as I thought what could have happened if I went chasing Calum, I quickly got some dry clothes on and left my room to find my brother. So that I could get some revenge on him.

While I was wandering around the house to find him, I went into the kitchen to grab some breakfast. My mother seeing me pointed at a plate left on the table with some bread and a little bit of meat left over from the meal last night. I grabbed that then scoffed it down. As I had then noticed that I was starving. Saying thanks as I left, I then carried on looking around the house for him. After a while of looking and not finding him. I decided that he must have left the house. As I was about to leave through the gate my father called me.

"I'm glad that I caught you just before you left. I wanted to tell you that I spoke to the merchant and that he would be willing to take you to the city today." Seeing the confused look on my face he chuckled. Then he gave me a leather pouch. After it was in my hands I nearly dropped it surprised at the weight. "In there, is some money. As you are going to the city early, enjoy yourself. See what the city had to offer. Also you only have an hour before the merchant goes so make sure to be ready."

After he told me that I raced back to my room thinking about all the things I needed to pack.  As I got there my mother was walking out of my room with a backed bag and the medallion in her hands. Seeing me she handed it all to me.  "Go on Adoh, head off to the village square the merchant will be there waiting."

Surprised at how everyone seemed like they wanted me gone. I headed towards the square of the town. As I was going, the old man who me and my brother were doing some work for appeared in front of me. "Adoh my boy, I know that you are going and to say thank you to you for helping out these old bones of mine for so long. I wanted to give you something. This has been pa.s.sed down by my family for generations. As I got no children I would like you to keep it safe." He then pa.s.sed me a red jewel. It was beautiful. As I looked at it, I could see my face reflected on its surface.

"I couldn't take this.." Cutting me off.

"It is a gift. It would be rude if you refused to accept." Sighing at the old man's stubbornness. I said thank you and carried on heading towards the town square. This time there was no one who stopped me to talk or say bye.

Arriving at the village square, I saw the merchant and his caravan. It was much larger than usual. He only normally had around one or two coaches but this time there was, at least eight. It seemed like there was more going out of the village as well. The extra coaches looked newer and more well designed. They also had some kind of crest on them. This told me they were n.o.bles or at least had some affiliation to a n.o.ble house. As I was admiring the newer coaches the merchant noticed me and came over. He was a fat man of a joyful nature. Today he was wearing what seemed like his finest clothes. They looked like silk. It was mainly in green and there was a gold ring on his finger which showed he was part of the merchant's guild.

"Ho, it seemed like you made it in time adoh. If you go to the second coach over there, you can store your luggage. Then you will be riding in the fourth coach down. I quickly noticed that these were the older coaches but did as the merchant had said. Once I had made sure my bag was secured properly I went to sit down and wait to go.

Then I saw my family near the fourth coach. Waiting to say goodbye. As I got close to them, I noticed a bucket filled with water nearby by them. Without any warning I grabbed it and chucked the water over my brother who had finally appeared. "That was for earlier Calum," with a smug look I turned to my parents.

Then we began to say our goodbye. I probably wouldn't be able to see them again until I at least finish my training and first deployment.

"Adoh when you get to the city I want you to go and find my friend's house straight away. If you can't find where it is just show a guard this. They will help you find his home." He then handed me a note with the address of the house on.

Then it was my mum's turn. "You have some money don't you? You have your clothes?..Of course you do, I did that myself? You have what your father gave you?....I don't want you to go...You are my baby boy.." My father, seeing my mother about to break down and possibly flood the village with her crying, gently grabbed her and whispered something into her ear. What he had said seemingly worked as she calmed down and gave me one last hug before telling me to say my to my brother.

As I went up to my brother he gave me that cheeky smile he always seemed to has on but under it I could see he didn't want me to leave. That made my heart warm. "When you get back, your name will be sounding round the village as the great general who beat the demon hordes."

Smiling at what he said "No my name will be sounding around the whole kingdom."

"I'm going to miss you Adoh."

"I'm going to miss you to Calum."

Then a horn sounded, singling that the cavern was going to be moving soon. I was pushed away by my brother. "You better be going then." I gave him one last hug before climbing onto the coach. As it began to set off I waved goodbye to them until I could no longer see them. Sitting down I thought to myself my new life was about to begin.
