Spring-Autumn lifted himself out of his bed. Next to him was the mother of his cla.s.smate who pa.s.sed away.
Her face was beautiful like a meticulously sculpted structure. Her black hair was perfect and seemed to fall down like a waterfall. A white blanket that they shared covered her body. By her pillow were tears that had yet to dry up.
It was unknown if the tears were for the loss of her daughter or guilty of the fact that she somewhat broke her abstinence.
Spring-Autumn rubbed his nose and contemplated if he should feel bad. After a few moments of deep thinking, he concluded that he should only feel bad after something more happened. The most he did last night was play with her b.r.e.a.s.t.s.
Spring-Autumn got up and made his way to his desk. This was the first time in four years that he returned here. The last four years, he spent in Listia.
His desk was made out of a hardwood. There were a simple lamp and a calendar. Spring-Autumn traced his finger on the table and took a seat.
He closed his eyes and memories came surging like a tide. His family owned the Primo Corp. It was their number one focus and brand image was everything.
At the time, there were many compet.i.tors in the scene. His biological father, the CEO and founder of the corporation could not have any links.
Any bad news about the Primo Corp. would lower the stock price and affect brand image. He could not allow news of his mistresses and illegitimate children to get out. As such, Spring-Autumn was sent out heartlessly.
Growing up, no one bothered him. His mother was always traveling and going on vacation. As a mistress of the CEO of Primo Corp, she had more money that she could spend. It would not be wrong to say that his mother was practically a stranger. If someone was to tell him that she was dead, there would not be a single ripple in his heart.
The main focus of the family has always to groom Winter to become the best heir possible. Spring-Autumn was not even considered a possible alternative. Along with this, came the lack of expectation that followed him.
Anything he tried to put effort into, he would be met with strict discouragement. As a child, he could not help but want to seek approval. He always had certain expectations of the word "family." However, this expectation always failed him.
During his four years stay in Listia, he built himself into the person he wanted to be.
He succeeded and he had now returned to the place where everything began.
His finger continued to trace the table. He had to make a decision and he was waiting for the opportunity.
From the side, Rainmist began to awaken.
Spring-Autumn sat at the side and waited for her.
"Good morning," He greeted.
Rainmist swept her hair back and sighed after remembering what happened last night.
"Why the long face? We didn't even do anything yet," Spring-Autumn said.
"Hey you. Have you always been like this?" Rainmist said.
"I'm sure many men had thrown themselves at you before. What's the harm in me doing it too?"
"This is not right,"
"That's too bad,"
Spring-Autumn stood up and went over to Rainmist then pressed his forehead against hers. Their eyes were inches from each other's. He could see her dark, gem-like eyes and the hesitation within.
She could see his green eyes that seemed to contain immeasurable depth. Those eyes that would occasionally flicker an eerie green light.
Their lips were inches away from one another. With just another nudge Spring-Autumn could kiss her. However, he did not do so.
"I could kiss you right now, and you wouldn't resist," Spring-Autumn said with their faces almost touching.
"Do you know why?"
Spring-Autumn did not answer the question that he brought up. It was Rainmist who answered it for herself.
All her emotions surged out from her empty heart. Her lingering attachment towards her late husband. The love and relations.h.i.+p she had with her daughter. The day she gave birth to the most precious person to her. She made a promise with her late husband to raise her up to become the best person she could possibly be.
That day, she had just graduated from high school. She was fearful but she was also a young girl in love. The most important thing for her was that her husband was next to her, ready to give her the best sense of security she could get.
The days pa.s.sed by peacefully. It was her happiest days… Until disaster struck. Her husband pa.s.sed away in a car crash. Her anchor, her pillar, her man. She did not know what to do. However, she clung on. She clung on because her most precious daughter was still here. So she became strong. Her late husband's family remained to support her. More than ever, she was grateful to the man she married.
And then the apocalypse came. The world changed and she went in hiding, fearing for the future of her daughter. When they reunited, she was so unbelievably happy. Everything was going to be okay. She thought.
Unfortunately, things don't always turn out the way one wishes for it to be. The day Spring-Autumn, the young man in front of her departed from the underground base, Blue was devastated.
The next day, she was a different person. She became a [User]. Her eyes were filled with resolve. It was as if she fully grew up into the person Rainmist had always wished for her to be. The next day, her body rejected the power.
Rainmist could remember the moment as if it was yesterday. Holding onto the hands of her dying daughter as she coughed up blood. She felt helpless, there was nothing she could do.
Her heart was in a mess. Her emotions translated into her actions. She closed her eyes and leaned forward to Spring-Autumn.
Their lips touched, they had kissed.
Spring-Autumn could feel her soft tender lips. There were no feelings of love in this. It was merely the desire of the heart.
"Can you make me forget?"
Rainmist wrapped her arms around Spring-Autumn and whispered.
