"Laura, you are the only love of my life, the mother of all of my future children and you know there's no one I wanted to spend the rest of my life with except you. I'll give you and our baby the best family you both deserve. I am not perfect, but I promise to be the best husband and the best daddy." The woman was so moved that she's close to tears hearing Paul's confession in public.
"Though, I've asked you already to marry me. But tonight, in front of our families and friends, I am asking you again, will you marry me, love?"
The audience roared with happiness. Some stood up and the men whistled and the ladies were all giggling and giddy at the scene. Both of their parents were overjoyed at what is happening.
"Say 'YES' again! Say 'YES' AGAIN!' Say 'YES' again!" the people said in chorus.
Paul was still on his knee waiting for the woman's answer.
"YES! I will marry you, Paul Keller! And I love you, too!" Paul slid the diamond ring on the woman's finger and then they hugged and kissed.
Ingrid almost fainted at what she saw. She could no longer hear the crowd, her heart squeezed with so much pain. Her world shattered, her knees wobbled that caused her to be off balanced and she fell hard on the waiter who was serving the champagne.
Her fall created a commotion. The sound of shattered gla.s.ses caught everyone's attention. The merriment suddenly brought to a halt and everyone gasped at the sight of her: wet with champagne and blood started to drip from her hands.
"Ingrid!" Liane screamed and her tears fell as she looked at her best friend looking so pitiful. "Someone please help! We need to take her to the hospital." Liane cried for help.
Paul froze when he heard the name. His hands went cold and he sweated profusely inside.
"What happened?" Laura was alarmed.
"Someone slipped and fell to the waiter." Someone answered.
"Oh gos.h.!.+ Let's take a look Paul. I don't want that somebody get hurt during our engagement party. It's a bad omen for me." But Paul stopped her fearing to see the woman.
"Let's not spoil our night, love. Let the staff take care of it."
"No! We need to at least look at the situation." Laura pulled Paul with her and went to where the commotion was.
"Oh dear! Are you alright, Miss?" Laura's face was so worried when she saw the woman's hands had some deep cuts.
However, Laura was puzzled and stared at them because she's not familiar with the two women. As far as she knows, the people who were invited at the engagement party were only their friends and families. So she asked Paul.
"Honey, do you know them?" Paul immediately denied. He was so embarra.s.s at the sight of Ingrid's situation.
He shook his head. "Nope! I don't know them. There must be a mistake. This is an exclusive event why does some strangers allowed!" His voice sounded annoyed and Paul looked at Ingrid with disgust.
'WHAT IS SHE DOING HERE?' he was appalled that his engagement party was ruined.
Liane could not restrain her emotion and wanted to shout at Paul but Ingrid stopped her by holding her hand and she shook her head.
"NO." she mouthed at her best friend.
Some staff went to them and a.s.sisted Ingrid and the waiter. But before they left, Liane look intently at Paul from his head to toe with loathing.
"SOMEDAY, YOU'LL PAY FOR THIS." Her statement seemed a curse to Paul.
"That woman is weird, why should you pay for it? Her companion was clumsy and she blamed it on you." Laura seemed innocent to what's happening and so she shrugged and chose to ignore what happened.
"Come on! Don't be bothered by her statement, it will ruin our night together. Baby's gonna be sad, too." Paul forced himself to smile.
