"Are you out of your d.a.m.n mind? Why on earth are you screaming in the middle of the night?" She hissed, staring dagger at her. "Look, look, I'm really sorry, I did not mean any of this, I was too excited and-" Linda whispered, trying to explain, but gave up halfway and decided to merely apologize. "I'm really sorry. It won't happen again." The girl huffed annoyance and stormed off. Linda heaved a sigh of relief.
She went back in buried herself in midst of the sheets in her bed. Slid out her mobile and started texting Emily on Instagram.
~Back to the scene where Linda abruptly ended the video chat~
"That was so not okay..." Aiden exclaimed in shock. "I know." Emily scowled as she clasped her head in her hands, groaning in frustration. "Hey, come on. At least you looked at her and know she is fine." Aiden tried comfort her. Just as he finished speaking, Emily's cellphone buzzed.
It was a new notification.
Emily hurriedly grasped her cell and opened the message with trembling hands. She heaved a sigh of relief when she found out it was Linda. "She's back online. Except this time she's texting me, on Instagram." Emily spoke while reading her texts. Linda was sending one paragraph after the other trying to explain her current situation. Finally, she gave up and started to send voice messages.
"Look, Emily, long story short. I had been not only very busy but also had no access to WiFi or any sort of data connection. I couldn't even message you because my balance was finished." One of Linda's voice message said. Clearly she was whispering and trying to keep it as low as possible.
~Text messages~
Emily: Why are you whispering?
Linda: My room mates are trying to sleep.
Emily: Oh... I see.
Linda: Sooo... You forgive me. Right?
Emily: Hmmm...
Linda: OH PLEASE EMILY DON'T DO LIKE THIS. I know it was my mistake and I admit it. I'm not a true friend.
Emily: Woah, woah, woah... At least hear me out.
Linda: ...
Emily: Ahahah! I was just kidding, of course I forgive you. There isn't anything to forgive for in the first place. :)
Linda: Phew... Okay, whatever, don't be too modest now. :P
Emily: Hahaha! Okay, I won't. It's getting late now. You should probably go to sleep. Goodnight! Love you. <>
Linda: Hm. You're right. Goodnight. Love you too. :-*
~End of conversation~
Emily smiled as she put down her phone. Aiden start tapping her shoulders, saying, "Why are you smiling? Tell me as well, I also want to smile." Emily giggled, as she stood up to stretch her legs and arms. "It's getting late, you should also go home now." Emily turned around and spoke, still smiling. She was really happy. Now that she had finally talked to Linda and knew she was alright, she relaxed.
Aiden pouted, "You still didn't tell me why you were smiling." He muttered. Emily laughed again, pinching his cheeks, "You're so cute." His face reddened as he felt his face burn up. Emily did not notice as she was busy humming a tune, while opening the door and led him out of the room to send him off.
At the door step, "Thanks, Aiden, for stopping by. If you had not encouraged me to try to call her, who knows for how long I must have gone like this. Haha." Emily beamed, like the twinkling stars in the sky, as walked up to Aiden, tightly wrapping her arms around his waist as she squeezed him into her embrace. "You're the best. Take care of yourself and goodnight!" She said while letting him go.
Aiden was astonished. His mind had stopped working, he felt himself burn up so much, as if he was in the middle of a flame. He quickly turned around his heals and fled from the scene. "Goodnight!" He replied from a distance, still walking as quickly as possible.
That night, Emily had loosen up as a burden was lifted from her heart. She fell asleep quite quickly and had a wonderful dream.
...
Aiden reached home and directly made his way to his room. "Honey, you're back?" His mom called out, drying the dishes. "Yes! And I'm off to bed. Goodnight." He replied, closing the door behind him. When he had changed and was lying in his bed, Emily was all over his mind. Her laugh, her smile, her beautiful eyes. He could not sleep, his heart was pounding as if it would explode out of his chest.
He tossed and turned. "You're so cute! You're the best." Emily's words were spinning around his head. He unconsciously touched his cheek where Emily had pinched him. Thinking about how Emily had hugged him a while ago, b.u.t.terflies started fluttering in his stomach.
Emily...
Aiden finally loosened up and fell asleep. In his dreams, he saw Emily, how they had met and their interactions up till now. Everything was still as crystal clear in his memories and he slept comfortably.
