There was a slow dispersal of people as they tended to the wounded and carried the dead. Some people just sat around being too tired. Radley walked among them as he tried helping out where he could, even of the Westside. One of the people recognized him, and approached him, "Why? Why did you have to kill those people…?"

Radley turned around and looked at the young man. He was a level three, with no emotion he replied, "It was either me or them, and you should understand that as fast as possible. War isn't pretty. They should have simply bowed out and they wouldn't have died. We were only defending ourselves, that's all. Take it up with your superiors they were the reason for all this unwanted death. To think that in this country, the idea of law is just…lost."

He spat to the side emphasizing that point. This didn't satisfy the young man, "You are strong you could have spared the."

"Perhaps, but who was to say they wouldn't turn on me afterward. Remove that naivety from your mind. You are going to get yourself killed in the future."

Radley walked on and left the young man to his grief. Blobby was following him the whole time. Adrian sat on one of the railings of the bridge.

Adrian saw him and smiled, "You look like s.h.i.+t, kid. Now we have to repair that armor of yours."

"Fought a guy that was a bit of a nuisance. In any case, it seems the fight went well."

"Thanks to you. You did well, kid. You have some seriously good instincts. They played us like a fiddle. In any case, you are going with me to the peace talks. We can only bring three. So it will be me, you and Adira."

"Why me? Wouldn't your wife be a better option?"

"Honestly, probably but she is too emotionally invested. I can't risk it."

"Then wouldn't you be out of the question as well?"

"There is some truth in that, but I have a bit of history with Maynard, but his way of dealing with people is almost as bad as Angus. It's why the two had this major falling out."

"Maynard? Okay so I got a name, but how are we going to handle the poison thing?"

"Honestly I ain't too sure. I am going to suggest a banquet after the peace talks. That's where we will get him."

Adira showed up, "We shouldn't give him any leeway in the peace during the peace talks."

"We won't."

The three made their way towards the magistrate's house. There were a few guards that showed them the way. In the room, Radley spotted something behind a painting. A white aura with level fifteen was there. Radley stopped both Adira and Adrian, "There is someone behind that painting."

This infuriated Adira, "THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A THREE PERSON MEETING!!!"

Maynard raised his hands defensively, "Whoa, hold on there for a second. I have no idea what you are talking about."

Radley raised his hand and pointed towards the painting, "A level fifteen person by the name of Joftel."

Maynard's eyes widened in surprise, "How the…?"

Adira was dead serious, "You want that thing to die?"

"I see why you brought the child. He's got an unusual intuition. How about it kid. Work for me? I'll pay you quite handsomely."

Adira wasn't done, "Get rid of him!"

Maynard raised his hand, "Joftel, leave."

A man comes out from behind the painting. He was pretty scarred. He bowed and made his way out. Maynard pointed to the seats in front of him. They reluctantly sat. Maynard was first to speak, "I don't understand the point of this. All I was asking was a stipend."

Adrian spoke, "Your stipend was outrageous."

"It was an acclimating tribute. I was only going to enforce it for six months."

"And for six months we have to live on the poverty lines. It would have forced us to deal with third parties to make ends meet. That wasn't an offer that was a belligerent insult to our way of life."

"That is how business is run, but you wouldn't understand that."

"You lost the battle because of your greed. Now we are here and you aren't in the driver's seat no more."

"What do you propose then? You need protection, and I am willing to offer my services, of course, it can't be for free."

"It needed to be the same as every town offers. We pay the council ten percent of our profits and an additional five for the magistrate."

"Sorry, that just won't do. Why should I offer protection for five percent?"

"Because those are the rules."

"Not mine."

Adira couldn't believe what she was hearing, "You do know you are speaking to a fellow magistrate right here?"

"So?"

"You are disobeying council rules."

"You are technically from a different contingent, which means I can charge you whatever I deem necessary."

"You clearly don't value your own life as well as those below you."

"The only reason you won was that those that stood on the side-line finally picked aside. What do you propose that could benefit us both."

"Ten percent."

"Fifteen percent."

"Fine."

"Then we have a deal."

He stood up, "Let's have a drink."

Adrian smiled, "I propose a banquet."

"Fine by me, we will even sponsor the food, but first a drink."

He poured everyone a gla.s.s of whiskey. Radley noticed a faint green wisp on the edges. Really? They were trying to poison us? He didn't notice it on Adira's gla.s.s which meant that this was more meant to hurt Adrian, and he was the side guest that was in the way.

They all raised their gla.s.ses into the air except Radley, "Poison, really?"

Both Adira and Adrian looked at their gla.s.ses. Maynard took a sip of his, "No, I just drank from the same bottle. Why would it be poisoned?"

"It's a relatively low-level poison. Adira won't be affected. I would probably die, Adrian would be weakened, making a fight all too much in your favor, and the poison is on the tip of the gla.s.ses."

Maunhard was really starting to get annoyed by the kid, "It seems nothing escapes those eyes."

"I have learned to be incredibly distrustful."

"So it would seem. If you don't want to drink then this meeting is adjourned as well as this peace of yours."

"We don't mind drinking, we mind the gla.s.ses. Give us new ones and we will drink."

"Just leave…I don't care anymore"

"The peace is still on?"

"Yes, whatever."
