The hospital they were currently in was just five storeys high. Because of its small size, it could only admit a small number of patients. If this was a big hospital, Haeckel would not have dared to enter.

As they were walking, Haeckel had this feeling that he was coming closer to something really familiar.

"Shh. It's near, meow." Merda purred. They were now in the lobby of the operating rooms.

Chouji looked at the cat with curiosity. He still was not used to the absurd talking cat but, thinking about the weird things, the talking cat was a great fit. The cat was also friendly so there was no reason for him to put his guard against it.

"Open this door, meow." Merda placed his paw on a gla.s.s door. The gla.s.s was transparent but there was a curtain draped over it making them unable to see the room's interior. There was a sign above that said 'Operating Room 3.'

Haeckel cautiously proceeded inside. His pistols had already cooled down and were ready to use. Chouji followed behind with a broken stick in each of his hands. Although he was confident in his newfound strength, Haeckel had still suggested that he should have a weapon at disposal.

There was blood all over the floor of the operating room. There were even pieces of flesh and surgical tools scattered amidst the blood. From where they were standing, they could see a dried up corpse of a woman lying on top of a surgical bed.

"I know that patient." Chouji whispered. "She was scheduled to give birth a few hours ago."

"Get away!" Haeckel pushed Chouji away. Prior to doing this, he saw, from the corner of his eyes, something that was moving beneath a curtain from across the room. This 'something' tried to attack Chouji but missed. It looked like a baby but it was not - the best description for it would be that it looked like an imp.

Luckily, Haeckel had pushed him in time because if not, his stomach would have been punctured. The imp, growled as Haeckel stared at it. He aimed his pistol and this time, he only used one. He needed to have more accuracy to hit the small target.

"The feeling is coming from that imp!" Merda's excited voice was out of place in the tense atmosphere.

On a closer look, the creature looked hideous. It's whole body was covered in blood especially it's fang-like teeth. It even had lumps of human meat between its teeth as it hissed at the people in front of it. Clearly, it had some sort of intelligence as it hesitated to attack. Unlike the imp, Haeckel pulled the trigger without any hesitation. Even though the plasma beam did not hit the imp, the imp felt the danger coming from the weapon.

The imp was angered. It opened its mouth and spat out a tennis-sized fire ball aimed at Haeckel . With Haeckel's reaction speed, he dodged the attack. On the other hand, Chouji, who was behind him was the one hit with this fireball.

"It's hot!" Chouji's s.h.i.+rt caught fire. While taking his s.h.i.+rt off, the imp dashed forward and protracted its claws. This time, it was aimed at Haeckel .

Haeckel pulled the trigger a few more times before rolling out of the way. In the middle of the air, the imp once again opened its mouth and aimed it at him. In response, he pulled out the other gun in his other holster. If accuracy could not do it, then numbers could!

They both shot at the same time. One of the shots from the pistol penetrated the creature's right leg and abdomen while the imp's fireball hit one of his pistols. The imp crashed a meter away from his foot and looked at him angrily. Meanwhile, the imp's fireball hit the pistol.

(d.a.m.n!) Haeckel cursed quietly. He was forced to drop the pistol as it had caught on fire. It was just about to overheat anyway and only had two shots remaining. The pistol that caught on fire fell on the floor and started to burn away.

"We gotta get out of here!" Chouji shouted. The imp was trying to create another fireball but this time, it was not just the size of a tennis ball. It was now slightly larger than a tennis ball and continued to increase even more.

"Not yet!" Merda appeared once again and swiftly approached the imp before shouting, "It's really inside the body of this thing!"

Haeckel did not dilly-dally and aimed his pistol at the non-moving imp. Anyone within such a short distance could shoot the immobile creature down. However, instead of killing the imp, the laser beams surprisingly fused with the fireball. The fireball was now as large as a basket ball.

Chouji rushed to the imp's side and aimed the sharp part of his broken mop at its head. With a battlecry, he pierced the imp's head with the mop. The fire ball that was building up exploded.

Boom.

Ringing sound buzzed along Haeckel's ears. His vision was blurry as he tried to look at his surroundings. He looked to the left and to the right and saw that some of the objects had caught fire. When he looked up, a portion of the ceiling had collapsed.

(Chouji!)

Haeckel was pushed a few meters away by the force of the explosion. The location above where he was ago was the portion of the ceiling that had collapsed. Likewise, Chouji had also been pushed away by the force of the explosion.

Haeckel approached the unconscious man and saw that Chouji had 3rd degree burns all over his body. The left side of his face had also been burned. He removed his s.h.i.+rt and put out the cinders of fire that was still on Chouji's body.

"This is the source of the feeling, meow." Merda approached the unconscious man stepped on top of its body. Floating on top of the body was a red shard.

"What exactly is it?" Haeckel grabbed the red shard. Without any pain, the shard fused inside his body. He closed his eyes because the shard gave him a relaxing feeling.

When Haeckel opened his eyes, there was an army of monsters in front of him. He looked at his arms, then at his hands and at his whole body. His body was on fire yet, he was not feeling any pain. He even felt relaxed and at ease. With one wave of his hand, the army of monsters turned into ashes.

"Wrath." The man who was him yet was not him uttered this one word.

"Ernst! Hey, Ernst, wake up, meow."

(What was that?)

"What happened, meow?" Merda jumped onto his head and sat there.

"I saw myself killing thousands of monsters with fire." Haeckel answered.

"Wrath." Merda whispered.

"You know what that thing was?"

"I also had the same dream but I killed thousands of winged-creatures."

The conversation between the two was broken when the unconscious man coughed. The man and the cat looked at the unconscious man.

"Let's go."

Haeckel scavenged for medicine and bandages and patched Chouji up. He owed this fat guy twice now and he was not the kind of man who forgets about grudges and favors. It was just a patchwork so it took a small amount of time. He would heal this guy extensively at the laboratory.

Haeckel checked out the parking lot for any danger and found out that there was none. He searched for a van that he could use, broke the gla.s.s and unlocked it. A great number of minutes later, he came out with a stretcher with a fat man on top. Whatever method he used to get the big man on the stretcher, you, the reader, would never know.

In another minute, the van was ready to go. It sped towards the supermarket and stopped for a while. Haeckel went down and took the bags that was filled with grocery as quickly as he could. There were already zombies that was attracted to the sound and were running towards them. As soon as he climbed up the van, he stepped on the gas and accelerated away.

The road he used to come here still looked the same. Everything was quiet except for the few shrieks, howls and roars. The car pa.s.sed by his residential house but stil,l it did not stop. His goal was not his house anyway. This time, he was going to his laboratory a couple of miles away.

This laboratory, although not the largest, could be one of the most advanced in terms of technology. In fact, it was actually the most advanced in the whole world. He held dangerous experiments which most of the times, was illegal in the eyes of the government. It was not just weapons that he had experimented on. He was also trying to experiment with something that even his wife had never known. Its subject was said to be the most illusive and completely untouchable - s.p.a.ce-Time.
