Thomas started to descend from the lookout tower, things were proceeding according to his plan. At least on his end, he could only hope the other squads were doing just as good. If all went well they would have this place by sunrise at the latest, he was of course expecting some resistance. He jumped the last two feet to the ground, he didn't have to worry about muscle strain in his legs because his physique was unnatural to say the least. He landed on the ground in almost complete silence, he had taped his gear down so that it wouldn't rattle while moving and he had the rest of the company do the same. They couldn't afford to be spotted because someone didn't stow their gear properly.

He crept around the tower and stayed out of sight, the next soldier was in plain view. Slowly, but surely he got closer and closer until he was standing right behind the soldier, who didn't seem to notice anything out of the ordinary. Thomas drew his knife quietly and dispatched the sentry just like the other two, in silence and blood. Just as Thomas was about to move out, a flare went off in the distance and lights all around the compound came on.

"G.o.d d.a.m.n it!" Thomas raged. "What in the h.e.l.l happened to our cover?!"

Thomas pulled out his Thompson Sub-machine Gun and loaded the first magazine into it. He modified his magazines to carry thirty rounds of ammunition instead of the standard twenty, he wanted an edge in combat and they don't weigh anything to him so he could load them just as fast as a regular magazine. j.a.panese troops came crawling out of all of the buildings and Thomas got behind a set of crates before taking aim at a squad.

"GO LOUD!" Thomas thundered, his voice carrying so that the rest of the squad could hear him no matter where they were. Suddenly as if they were ghosts, the rest of his squad silently appeared from the shadows and opened fire on the confused j.a.panese soldiers. They didn't stand a chance as a haze of rifle fire tore them to shreds. Numerous b.l.o.o.d.y holes appeared in their bodies as they jerked with each bullet that hit them, finally collapsing into a b.l.o.o.d.y leaking heap on the ground when the squad ran out of bullets to fire in their current magazines.

Thomas and his squad methodically cleared all of the buildings before centering in on the communications building. It was two stories high and made entirely of concrete, the windows all had bars on them and were small so you couldn't climb through them. Thomas signaled for them to stack on the door before pulling out a fragmentation grenade. He nodded to Marlon who then proceed to kick the door open before quickly pulling back. Thomas lobbed his now armed grenade through the open doorway before hearing alarmed yells and then an explosion which sent tremors through the ground.

They rushed through the open doorway and entered a world of dust and smoke that threatened to choke them with every breath they took. Visibility was at less than five feet ahead and every so often a j.a.panese soldier stumbled out of the gloom and right into the squad, at which point Smith stabbed them to death, no sense in wasting bullets on a disorientated enemy. They cleared each room of the bottom floor, but since none of them could read j.a.panese Kanji, they couldn't make any sense of the papers scattered around each room. As they neared the stairs to the next floor, visibility started to greatly improve.

There wasn't any place to stack up next to the stairs, instead the moved up the stairs single file and covering all of the angles. As soon as Smith's head peeked over the top of the stairs gunfire erupted and Smith ducked down. A hail of bullets from j.a.panese rifles and sub-machine guns flew by over head. A grenade bounce through the doorway prompting everyone to freeze with terror, except for Thomas who knew what he had to do. Quickly he grabbed the grenade and flashed over the stairs in a green blur as quickly deposited the grenade into the laps of the j.a.panese defense who had barricaded the hallway with three metal tables from which they were firing into the stairwell. Then Thomas flashed back to the squad and pulled them backwards as the grenade went off.

With a deafening roar that suggested more flammable object or explosives were upstairs, the grenade went off. Fire spewed out into the stairwell just above their heads, the flames were intense but they lasted only seconds as it got sucked back into the second floor as if there was a vacuum.

"d.a.m.n, Captain!" Marlon complained, "Everything always have to be so dramatic when you do your green thing?"

Thomas didn't answer him, he only got up and headed into the second floor. It was a mess, part of the wall had been blown out, letting humid jungle air into the otherwise cool building. The metal tables were in sc.r.a.p pieces all over the floor and there were bone fragments and blood stuck to the walls and ceiling. It looked like a scene straight out of h.e.l.l with some of the blood dripping off the ceiling, sliding down the walls in rivers, or just pooling on the floor where the torn corpses of the defenders were. The rest of the squad followed Thomas and their jaws dropped. Smith even let go of his earlier snack all over the floor in a bout of retching and heaving.

"Looks straight out of a Louisiana Swamp BBQ," commented Marlon.

"Haven't seen anything since my days in the trenches." Higgins added.

"f.u.c.k you two, being all fine and s.h.i.+t."Coughed Smith.

"What about the Captain, why not him?" Higgins asked.

"It's the Captain, should've seen the s.h.i.+t he pulled off in boot camp." Smith replied.

"b.u.t.ton it up, we've still got work to do." Thomas ordered as he slowly walked forward, his boots making squelching noises as he walked through the corpses. He checked the first room on the right, nothing in there, but a few desks and some papers. The second room was much of the same. Finally, they came upon the room with all of the radio equipment.

"Marlon, Thermite." Thomas ordered.

"Yes, sir!" Marlon replied with his gravelly voice as he rummaged through his pack. He found the Thermite and planted it on the various equipment. He put special portion on the ceiling where the antenna was connected. The squad exited the room and took cover down the hallway.

"Fire in the hole!" Thomas yelled after throwing a frag into the communications room.

The resulting explosion shook the building and caused a huge explosion which could be seen for miles round the island. j.a.panese forces across the island went into a panic when they tried to radio for reinforcements or to find out about the conditions of the communications outpost. Little did they know that it was just the beginning of an hours long nightmare, which the j.a.panese navy would later decode a series of last second transmissions that would only state one word over and over. Demons.
