"I love you."
The woman was munching on some popcorn, in a log cabin, somewhere in the universe, watching Fred and Emily on an old box TV. There was sentimental music playing, for some reason. She sniffed a little.
"Poor Emily. What is Fred doing???" She threw the empty bag on the floor.
"Emily's right. It wouldn't have worked out." The knife was lying on the floor, with the popcorn bag on top of it.
"Fred was just supposed to have a bit of fun! Maybe have one, or two, or ten, one night stands!"
"That's not like Fred." The knife said. The popcorn bag was gone.
"He's a walking birth control pill! All he had to do was will her not to get knocked up. At least, use protection!"
"He actually didn't even use the power. Yes, he saw the string between him and Emily, but he didn't look, or anything. I think he's on to us." The knife joked.
The woman was back sitting in a white room. "We both know that's not even funny."
The knife changed the setting back to the log cabin. The TV was paused, with Fred and Emily in mid-kiss.
"What do you think about the soda tax?" The knife tried changing the subject.
"That was dumb. I was expecting a revolution or another world war or something."
"That's not like-"
"Yeah yeah." The woman was looking into the fireplace. She smiled, then frowned. "And how is being an absent father like him? Not even in the same country. What about the kid?"
"He'll take care of him. He'll send money over every month."
"Wow, that helps." The woman rolled her eyes.
"He couldn't just take her back home. She would've been miserable. And he didn't want to stay in paradise- he didn't belong there, either. He didn't mess with fate this time, and just let things be. Knowing he'll be an absent father. Knowing the child will be sad, confused. Knowing Emily-"
"Poor Emily!"
"...would miss him. Heartbroken. But they're both adults. They have some unspoken understanding."
The woman was sitting, back again, in a white room. "But what about the plan?"
"What plan?"
