"Great speech, huh?" The messy haired boy applauded, and Eika was about to agree with him but, then she realized it wasn't the headmistress he was complimenting. It was her. He heard everything!
She sucks!
"Delete everything! Pretend it never happened!" She covered her face and blushed. She couldn't look at the guy anymore. How much did he hear? Probably a lot of it. She wanted to crawl into a hole and stay there for years. Someone hushed behind them, telling them to be quiet, and it was the second years. Eika was embarra.s.sed now. If she wasn't sitting next to him!
"I know everyone wanted to be well acquainted with one another, but I want all ears and attention to me," Their headmistress placed both of her hands on the podium, grabbing everyone's attention with a single look at the audience. Eika stopped panicking and focused her attention on the headmistress even though the boy beside her was looking at her. She took a deep breath and reminded herself to ignore him.
"We built a reputation for this school, we set the standards of what being an idol is," She took off the microphone and walked in front of the podium to get a good look at everyone. After a moment of silence, she continued again.
"I'm sure everyone here knows their purpose, all of you, would want to debut as an idol," She began, emphasizing the weight and the burdens they have to carry.
"1st to 3rd years would dream into making it into the 4th year where we decide whether all of you would debut" She paused, and climbed down the stage. She approached the first few rows of the new students. She made sure to make eye contact in each and every one of them. Somehow Eika met eyes with the headmistress. It was scary how she sent a message to each and every one of them.
Her heart skipped a beat. The way that the headmistress looked at her. It's like she can stare right into her soul. It's like she knew she wasn't paying attention to her earlier.
"But remember everyone," She stopped in the middle of the auditorium. She gripped tightly on her microphone and, everyone can see her now. All of them were listening.
"Fame is limited, not everyone was born lucky to be successful in this industry. You need perseverance and the willpower to fight your way to the top," She smiled at them all but, it wasn't the smile of warmth. There was bitterness in it and underlying pain. "You all know about it right? The Top Idol Cup,"
Top Idol, the greatest t.i.tle that any idol could ever get. It means you're the best of the best. The G.o.d of all G.o.ds. Only one person can ever attain it. This year is for the 10th Idol Queen or King and to think Eika is here sitting on a pedestal with other 700 students.
Eika clutched on the seat handle. Her knees were shaking and, her palms were sweating again. She tried to calm down with slow breaths.
"But, I want you all to know that even if you're not a top idol, it doesn't make anyone less. Being able to stand on a stage and bring happiness to those who see you as someone special is the greatest honor of all to any idol," She said solemnly, and no one dared to move in their seats. They were thinking the same thing, She's right.
Seeing how everyone was quiet, she smiled again. She moved away from the center and walked towards the stage. She placed the microphone down and bowed her elegantly to everyone.
The students stood up from their seats and, clapped their hands for the headmistress even Eika stood up and joined with everybody. The messy haired boy was dazed. Eika couldn't tell what he was thinking.
"Once again, I'm Misaki Saito. I hope I'm in your care," Misaki ended her speech and, the students bowed their heads. "Your respective advisers will be with you shortly," She exited out of the stage and, the lights went off. It turned back on for the audience seats and, everyone was shocked when they found their teachers nearby their isle.
"That was scary," Eika said out loud and, someone was standing beside the messy haired boy and, it scared her more. Their teacher has black hair, with red gla.s.ses that covered his tired eyes. He's holding a clipboard and a black pencil on his hand jotting down everyone's attendance. Anyone can tell that this man didn't get any sleep.
"Cla.s.s Crescendo! Fall in line!" He commanded, and everyone hurried to stand up followed by the noise of chairs. Eika looked around hurriedly, so this isle is her cla.s.smates? No room a.s.signments whatsoever?
She turned to the messy haired boy, she didn't think she would be cla.s.smates with this guy. When they met eyes, the boy gave her a wide grin and, Eika immediately looked away. What was that for honestly?
"I am Min Jun Kang but, please call me Mr.Kang or Sir Nel," Nel took out his planner and scanned his cla.s.s in front of him. "I am your adviser for the whole semester I hope I am in your care and, you are in mine as well,"
Eika furrowed her brows. She knew about Mr.Kang a whole lot. He's always mentioned by her cla.s.smates when she was still in her old school. He used to be a part of an idol group called Mystic Garden but, he recently graduated as a member. She wondered if he retired because he's a teacher now or something else.
However, the boy beside her has a different reaction.
The messy haired boy suddenly jolted his arm up. "Mr. Kang, Nel, sir!" He called like he was in the military. "Didn't you use to be in an idol group? Why'd you become a teacher instead?" His curiosity is inevitable. He'll let his tongue run loose and, his cla.s.smates started to whisper to one another calling him a weirdo.
"Mr. Sato. Save your questions for later," Nel wrote down on his clipboard. He didn't bother to look at anyone and, he counted the students. He has 36 students. Great start, He thought.
Eika couldn't help but form a smile on her face. She didn't mind these kinds of teachers. Most of the students would be terrified if they had a strict teacher but, she enjoyed these types of people more. Crazy right?
"I like everyone to follow me to the dorms. The other teachers may start cla.s.s as of right now but, I train my students to always be punctual. Is that understood?" He announced and, everyone straightened their backs in fear.
"Yes, sir!" They all saluted and Nel snickered.
"Anyone who's late in my cla.s.s can either go to the next one or just stay home!" Nel turned his back and everyone followed him outside.
"Yikes, I would never want to miss this," Eika rubbed her hands together as she walked down alone behind all of her cla.s.smates. She's already an outcast on the first day? She sighed. She puked on the first day, she made an enemy, and she met a weirdo.
"Hey!!" The messy haired boy called from behind. He waved at the girl he sat with earlier. "You're the girl I sat with, right? Oh, oh, who would have thought we'd be cla.s.smates! Our teacher is that guy from Mystic Garden. How h.e.l.la cool is that?" He beamed at her talking like an excited child finding a kitten in their backyard.
"Oh," Eika bolted up when she heard him. She admires him having a lot of energy on the first day. She wished she can do that too but, with her state of being a loner at the back of the cla.s.s, it's becoming a reality.
"I guess it is cool, you seemed interested at Mr.Kang earlier, are you a fan of him?" She decided to entertain him with a question. It wouldn't do any harm to her right?
"Oh! My sister is! She has this weird fangirl phase for him," He exclaimed. Eika chuckled at him feeling at ease by his presence little by little. She was still uncomfortable by him but seeing how energetic he puts her to rest. Maybe he wasn't too bad.
She remembered the conversation she had earlier with him about having third-year friends. Maybe he was with his sister then. So maybe he was given a tour by her? She wouldn't know.
When Eika was thinking deeply about it. She didn't notice that the messy haired boy was holding out a hand for her.
"I forgot but, I'm Hikaru Sato. You can call me Hikaru, Karu, or Mr. Cool Guy," He beamed at her. Eika sweated at those nicknames. She's too shy to call anyone by first names by their first meeting and, she wasn't even friends with him yet. She extended her arm and shared a handshake with him.
"Alright then, Sato. I'm Jane Eika Miyamoto, feel free to call me by my last name," She introduced herself. It was okay for her if someone called her by her last name. It's easier that way. It's like give and take for calling him by his last name too.
"Jane Eika? Wow, that's so foreign, it's fancy. I'll call you Jane Eika then. Not Jane, nor Eika, so nice to meet you, Jane Eika!" Hikaru said cheerfully and, Eika's eyes expanded at that. Somehow she felt touched. It's a weird thing but she really felt happy.
Out of everybody in this world.
Someone called her by Jane Eika.
