"Interesting,"
"Really?" he asked raising an eyebrow.
Acting as if it was normal I took my time to look. Something in the back of my head a distant memory was unsettling me. I'd felt this aura before but couldn't remember where and how.
"Can you tell me its history?" I asked calmly, my interest piqued as my notepad changed.
My aunts basically order me to talk but make no promises if I value my freedom. They had used that threat in a while so it must be serious. I need to be careful.
Beautiful boy may look harmless but not everything is what it seems. It's a lesson I keep learning and keep forgetting. I've never judged a book by its cover so I have to remember to keep my mind open for other things too.
"n.o.body knows much about it, the pendent's been in the family for over twenty-five generations," he said signing "The mirror you holding was her's as well, they were a set. Pa.s.s down together, from mother to daughter, aunts to nieces. It is critical for the coming of age. One piece is nothing but with the two, its resonance and amplifies the abilities of the owner"
"Owner?"
"Yes, from our line. She's almost of age. I think. We immortals age a little different than you witches. Females are rare so we didn't notice it was missing until it is needed." He said in tire worn out tone, "Without it, she will die, the stone must be recovered at whatever cost."
"Why?"
"We need a female for our court. The male will follow her and the line will stand strong." He said as if it was the simplest thing in the world.
"So let me get this right, you need the pendant with the mirror to make her part of your court. So you can have more power?" I asked even if I knew I shouldn't.
Again this was common practice that happens all the time I really should not get upset over it. From what I could sense, it was all half-truth. But I couldn't think of anyone in my father's family that had that sort of power. The blood had thin down too much. There may be a few far of people in Ireland but they'd never leave the country long enough to bother with problems of the court.
"Yes, but without it, she could die. Circuit overload. We are doing some good. Will you help me help her, Gray?" he asked in a cute little voice.
Making it almost impossible to resist but I had my orders. On second thought I probably shouldn't have asked so much about something, not my business.
