I never thought it possible to love anyone as I love Leonidas. It was a beautiful night under the full moon; Leonidas and I were taking a late night stroll through my father's rose garden when we stopped to sit on the cool ground. I grounded myself almost instantly. Leonidas is trying to learn my ways and beliefs; therefore he took a spot in front of me to ground himself. I focused all of my own negative energy into the ground and realized that Leonidas was still having problems focusing properly. I reached over and took his hands into my own and cleared him of his negative energy as well.

He had been under much stress lately with the wedding swiftly approaching and having to learn so much in such a short time. He had lost his mother six months before to illness back home and his loss affected him gravely. I worked deeply and focused on purifying him, bringing up white energies from the ground below me and pa.s.sing it through my hands into him then pulling it back through my knees that touched his. I continued this focus until all I pulled back from him was the positive white energy that I was putting into him.

When I finished, we opened our eyes, fully charged with positive energy and gazed into each other's eyes. I wanted so badly to kiss him, to feel his lips upon mine but I didn't quite know how to go about it. As if he could hear my thoughts, he reached over to me and placed his hand on my cheek. He rocked up on his knees and kissed my lips. I closed my eyes and could feel his lips on mine, his tongue lightly skimmed my teeth and I fell into an abyss of ecstasy. We made love under the full moon in my favorite place in the world, among my father's roses.

Two months had pa.s.sed since Leonidas had taken my virginity in the rose garden and we were still sneaking out to our secret place to indulge in our secret ecstasy. The day that I had realized that I was with-child, I tried to find Leonidas but he was off training for his upcoming hunting trip, so I wrote a letter for him and delivered it to Gilbert, asking him to give it to Leonidas.

I waited that night in the rose garden in our secret place for him to come as I had requested in my letter. I had been training to attune my senses to catch the scent of a vampire for some time but I had never crossed paths with anything like what found me that night.

Kethra have a scent of roses and I was in a rose garden, so I didn't smell her approach. I didn't even realize that I was not alone until I felt the fangs in my neck and darkness seeped into my consciousness. I awoke to darkness inside the royal crypt. I a.s.sumed that everyone thought that I was dead and had already placed me there. I rummaged around in the darkness for some time before finding the door to my freedom.

As I opened the door, the bright sunlight stung my newly sensitive eyes. I ran for the forest hoping that no one had seen me and disappeared into the thick wood. I continued walking in the cold winter air before I found a small cave within the mountain. I sought shelter inside and tried to reevaluate my life. I was no longer a princess; I didn't know what I was. My canines were now long and razor-sharp, my vision precise and detailed, my sense of smell was keen and profound and I could smell every scent around me. I could hear the birds in the distance singing a sweet song and the sound of a deer lapping at the water of a nearby pond.

My stomach growled with hunger wracking it but my body was full of energy. It was so strong that it was overwhelming me and I had to sit down to ground myself. I could see halos around everything around me and soon after I grounded myself the halos began to fade to a slight coloration around the object. I stayed until dark, which seemed like an eternity, before I left my sanctuary and began to walk back toward the castle.

In the dark, it was easy to hide from any eyes that might see me. I began to notice how much quicker and limber I was now. My reflexes were fast, faster than they had ever been before. I was stronger physically and I never seemed to tire. I began to run as fast as I could and watched almost in astonishment at how the trees became blurs in my vision, though they were still crystal clear. As I approached the outer wall I looked up for the top of the tall wall. I dug my cold, bare toes into the ground and jumped as hard as I could. I cleared the thirty meter wall by quite some distance and landed at the top gracefully and gently. I crouched and looked around in wonder at my new power and speed. A smile curled up on my face at the realization of how much better I felt, I felt as if I could take on the world.

I peered around in the darkness to see if I could see anyone. I realized that no one was out in my direction and jumped down off of the wall. I landed in a graceful crouch, again. I started winding my way through the garden heading for my father's rose garden. As I neared my secret place, I heard sobbing. I slowed myself and became as silent as the breeze.

I could see a shadow in the small clearing that was full of magick, my magick. I stood looking at this shadow, with his long dark hair draping down around his face, I couldn't see him. Suddenly, he looked up at the moon and yelled, "Why?" It startled me and I jumped slightly. I noticed the face and the pain in it. It was Leonidas and the pain in his yell was crus.h.i.+ng. I didn't have to ask to know what his agony was, twas me.

I didn't know how long I had been unconscious and at the agony in his scream I didn't a.s.sume that it had been too long, maybe a day or two at most. I just wanted to run to him and let him know that I was alright, or at least alive. But I didn't know what this all meant yet either.

Was I dead? Or undead? Was I good? Or evil? These were the questions that spun through my head as I watched my love morn my pa.s.sing. I could only watch as I felt my heart aching at his suffering until he couldn't cry another tear and decided to go inside the castle. I wanted to follow him but knew that as soon he approached closer to the castle, he would be guarded. So I had decided to retreat to my cave and wait for something, anything, to happen. I was desperate for some answers; I was lost in my own body. Yet, it didn't feel like my body anymore, I was stronger, faster and more agile than I had ever been. I felt indestructible.

My first night began lonely, but later as the moon hung high in the sky I was visited by a woman named Ca.s.sandra. "h.e.l.lo, my dear, welcome to your new life." She said as she entered the cave. She was a shorter, dark -haired woman with piercing black eyes that seemed to look deep within my heart. They were terrifying yet comforting and I could feel a twinge of admiration and fear for this strange woman.

"Who are you?" I spat, panicking at the feeling. She was beautiful and perfect. Her flawless skin was delicate with a rosy hint to the color. Her long wild hair hung around her face looking almost feral.

"Oh, my apologies, my name is Ca.s.sondra. I am, or should I say we are Kethra. We are immortal women, natural a.s.sa.s.sins and seductive sirens. Welcome, to your new life." She said with a chime in her voice and a devious look on her face. She was proud to be this Kethra creature and you could see it.

She sat and we spoke for hours about what I am now. She told me how to make the fangs recede so that I could appear mortal. We spoke about what this all meant for my life with the man that I loved. I could still be with Leonidas if he would have me. He wouldn't be immortal like me but if I could have him just for a lifetime then I could be happy in that life. I wanted to go to him and every night I tried to find him in our secret spot. I would arrive shortly after dusk and wait nearly till dawn, but he never came. Ca.s.sandra waited some time hoping that I would leave with her so that she would have a companion to travel with but finally the week of my eighteenth birthday, she left. Every night I still went hoping to catch Leonidas, hoping to find my love.

The night of my birthday, the night we were to have been wed, he came. He reeked of booze and drink and he stumbled into the clearing with a woman on his arm. She was tall, slender and beautiful but she didn't fool me. I could smell her dead blood before I even saw Leonidas. He was crying to her about how he didn't know if he could live in this place anymore without the presence of his love. She smiled and I could see her perfect white teeth s.h.i.+ning in the moonlight. "My prince, let me take this pain from you. Let me show you a whole new world of magic and wonder. You can travel the world with me and others like me, without the burden of your loss or your circ.u.mstance. Please your majesty, allow me to help you."

Leonidas turned to her and nodded his head. Tears still filling his eyes and as he blinked, tears streamed down his cheeks. "Please, take this pain from my heart."

"Then kneel, your majesty." To my surprise he did, a prince, a promised king bowing down before a wh.o.r.e. Anger and rage flared up in me but before I could move I heard her whisper, "do you want to see the world, my lord?"

"Yes."

"Do you want to leave this life and the pain that accompanies it behind you?"

"Yes."

"Then close your eyes."

At that, he did and she bent over and bit him. I launched from the tree that I had perched in and took her down. She thrashed at me and I pinned her down, my fangs pus.h.i.+ng on my lips and her scent overloaded my nostrils. Leonidas screamed in agony and I turned to see him thras.h.i.+ng on the ground a few feet away. She took advantage of my distraction and flipped me off of her. I crawled over to Leonidas and held him in my lap. He looked up at me and I saw the recognition in his eyes as my face registered in his mind. He had lost me and now I was going to lose him. He stilled and raised his hand up to my face.

"Drusilla?" he whispered faintly before closing his eyes.

"No!" I yelled and shook him. I heard footsteps in the distance as the royal guard headed toward us. I knew I had to flee. If they saw me, I didn't know what they might do. Kissing Leonidas' forehead I whispered, "I love you," before I laid his head gently on the ground and ran for the wall. I managed to get away without anyone spotting me. I watched from on top of the wall as they picked Leonidas up and rushed him into the castle.

The next day, I heard from a distance, that the prince had died in the night. My heart fell at the words and I wept for hours. First my life of luxury was lost to an immortal life as an a.s.sa.s.sin, now my love was lost to a vampire. At least there are two things that I can hold onto. First, the vampire wh.o.r.e who had taken my love would pay with her life. And second, this child within my womb, he will carry on the life of his father. Oh, he just kicked me again and my heart is full of sorrow and joy.
