After about ten minutes, a girl walked towards me. Her age must be about ten years. Her clothes were torn at a few places. Her blond hair was small and a little messed up and her face was a little dirty. But she still was pretty. If she washed up and get dressed decently, she would definitely look like a princess.
"Miss... Are you... Eve?" The girl spoke very softly. I almost didn't hear her.
"Yeah?"
"Mister is... Mister is calling you... there." She pointed in that direction of that alley with her trembling hands.
Was she really talking about my Black? I remembered two kids walked after my Black inside that alley. I didn't know if she really was sent by my Black because he didn't want me to go after him. But I couldn't take chances. I held her hand and started walking towards the alley without a second thought.
That girl didn't speak anything over the way. Though she was quietly following me, her shaky hand was wet with sweat. The girl was really frightened because of something.
I turned right and saw my Black. He was sitting against the wall in front of me. I don't know why but he was wearing his long coat. His right leg was bent and he was holding it tightly. My Black's hair was a little messed up as if he had gotten in a fight with some bad guys.
Near him was a small blond boy, lying down on the ground with his face up. I just took a glance at him and I was sure that boy was a relative of the girl beside me.
And a little farther away from Black were three bodies. Two belonging to men and the last one belonging to a woman. There was this strange air around those people that made me feel uncomfortable. It was unknown whether they were dead or alive. But that woman appeared to be in worse shape. Blood was oozing out of her mouth and her face was swollen up. A few parts of her clothes were torn up.
The girl stood behind me and refused to go forward. I let go of her hand and walked towards Black.
Though my Black was hurt, when he saw me coming towards me, he still smiled as beautifully as ever.
"Are you alright?"
"Help me out." He let go of his leg and presented his hand to me. I held his clean hand and helped him get up.
He placed his hand around my neck next so I could help him walk. I held his waist and it was then when the smell of blood a.s.saulted my nose. Black was covering up his wounds under his long coat. I was terrified thinking how horrible his injuries must have been that his whole body was reeking of blood. I had thousands of questions in my mind but I didn't ask him anything. My questions could wait. His injuries had to be treated first.
"Jeanne... Bring your brother.. and come with me," Black spoke up in a very lethargic manner.
"Let's go," Black said to me and walked. I tried my best to support him fully.
I didn't see Jeanne follow us but when I helped Black lie down on the backseat of the car, I heard the front door closing up. Jeanne and her unconscious brother were in the front seat. The front seat was a little crowded with two kids and three cats. So that girl placed the cat over the dashboard.
My Black's breathing continuously became slower and shallower. I couldn't help but unb.u.t.ton his coat to look at his injury. He placed his hand over mine, wanting to stop me but I couldn't stop my curiosity.
And the sight that presented before me was horrifying. His white sweater was drenched in blood. At the place of wound, that appeared to be at his heart, the blood had darkened. That was the first time I saw such horrible injuries. My heart throbbed as if it was stabbed instead.
He put his hand over my face and s.h.i.+fted my sight so I could look right in his eyes.
"Jeanne... Can you use heal?"
"I can not," Jeanne replied.
"It's okay. Take care of cats... Eve is afraid of them... And... I'll heal your brother later..." He spoke up while looking in my eyes. He couldn't speak easily and kept breaking his words.
"Do you like... lilies?"
"Tell me you're alright." I urged him.
He appeared like he was a burning candle that could extinguish anytime. It was painful to see him like an ember giving off the dying radiance.
"Don't worry... I'll be... alright... So do you... like lilies?"
"I guess I do," I told him but it didn't contain much truth. I didn't specifically prefer a flower over another. They all were nice.
"For you," Black said softly and brought his left hand in front of me. In his hand was a violet coloured lily. Even though my Black wasn't fine but that little Lily was perfectly fine. Perhaps I was at my mental breakdown thinking of how my Black might be taking his last breath in front of me, and that ordinary lily looked so special at that moment.
"Tha..." I was going to say thanks but I could not complete my words because my Black had closed his eyes.
"Hey... Wake up... Don't you dare... Don't you dare leave me, Black... Hey... Open your eyes... I love you... Do you hear me? I love you, Black... Stay with me now." That was my first confession. I only thought that if I didn't say it now, I might never get a chance to say those words. Even if he were to close his eyes for forever, I wanted to tell him how I felt.
But... That idiot... He didn't respond to me. My heart literally broke at that moment, like shattered gla.s.s. I felt I lost my whole world. My eyes teared up. Even though I wanted to console my heart telling it that Black will be alright like he said, it didn't listen to me.
My trembling hands held his wrist to check his pulse and my heart almost came out of my body when I didn't feel any pulse in his body.
At that moment, in my heart, I had decided to follow him in the afterlife. I really couldn't live without my angel, my everything.
My thumb placed upon his artery suddenly felt a very minute rumbling. It was minute but there really was a pulse present. He was alive! My almost desolated heart felt like a dead garden receiving the rain of life. His heart was beating like twice every ten seconds.
I quickly get off the car and sat on the driver's seat, so I could take him to a hospital quickly. I wasn't a medical specialist but someone else could help him there. It wasn't a problem of him being a different species. I had asked Black before and he said that it is not that easy to differentiate between an angel and a human.
I was driving as fast as I could, without taking care of any of the signals or road signs. My eyes didn't stop tearing though. I feared the worst. I keep rubbing them now and then so I can see clearly. Jeanne then jumped to the backseat, probably to check on Black. Though she was young, she was caring enough.
"Those are the flames of resurrection," Jeanne said but I couldn't hear her properly.
"What? What did you say?"
"How can he use the healing slumber??? Is he a Seraph?" Jeanne asked curiously but I literally had no idea what she was talking about.
"What's a Seraph?"
"You're not an angel?"
"You are an angel?" It took too long for me to figure this out. I should have long ago linked her strange behaviour to her being an angel. It was surprising but I was too focused on the road to be shocked by this.
"...I thought you were one... In the alley, he told me to call angel Eve standing near a black car."
My Black was so silly...
"When Eden approves of someone's heart, she appointed them as the guardian of our race and guides them to strength. Those angels are called Seraph. In the great war, a lot of Seraphs fell. The number of Seraphs alive today are too few."
"So what?"
"I've read about this ability. Only healer Seraphs could use it. It is called the healing slumber or you can say it flames of resurrection. Even if his last breath is remaining, this ability will heal him. You should take him home instead of the hospital miss. It'd be weird if he wakes up all healthy next day despite his heavy injuries."
When I heard about it I stopped the car and looked back towards her. I'd throw that girl and her unconscious brother out of the car if she was kidding with me.
"Are you sure of it?"
"Yeah. Look at how hot he is. I'm sure it's the flame of resurrection." Jeanne replied seriously.
Duh. My Black has always been this hot.
It took me a moment to realize she was talking about his temperature. And I remembered he was in similar condition for almost three days when he had fallen in my backyard. In the end, I decided to trust that little girl and bring him home.
"It's just that I don't understand how can Eden make such a bloodthirsty person a Seraph."
