Chapter 222: Death and Conspiracy (25)

At this moment, Lu Jia’er wished she could hear Jin Shengping’s internal voice, at least then she could possibly find answers to every question easily. However, she could hear nothing. In front of him, she was just like a normal person because she could hear no inner voice.

That being said, Lu Jia’er did pick something up from his expressions and his eyes. She could feel that he was struggling within and conflicted. All too soon, however, determination returned within his eyes.

“Are you saying that even with a heart transplant, there is little time left for Ace? So, the only way to prolong his life is to turn him into an advanced AI like me, right?” Lu Jia’er tried to sound him out.

Jin Shengping, who was standing on his crutch, turned around a bit. He stared at Lu Jia’er who was tied to the testbed. In his expression, there were deep and unfathomable meanings that Lu Jia’er could not discern.

He did not respond to her question. It was quiet in the lab.

“Is it a difficult question to answer?” Lu Jia’er was still pursuing.

Jin Shengping gave a casual reply. “In this world, there is an iron-clad law. Knowing more than you should is not necessarily a blessing.”

What Lu Jia’er heard from those words was a reminder for her not to stick her nose where she should not.

But it was nearly impossible for Lu Jia’er to be able to give up like this. “On the other hand, there is another saying, getting to the bottom of the matter, or even the saying be not ashamed to learn from one’s subordinates!” She argued.

Jin Shengping chuckled at this. “You were not so chatty in the old days!”

Lu Jia’er found it hard to locate the words to describe the Jin Shengping in front of her. When he smiled, he appeared to be so kind and gentle that she would want to approach him. However, that flash of glints of complication in his eyes was so baffling.

Building on his comment, Lu Jia’er added, “Since you think I am chatty, I will chat some more. I don’t know what your plan for the next step is. But, I can share with you my feelings as an advanced AI. Before I knew that I was an advanced AI, the abnormal superpowers confused me. It made me feel alone and scared, even. After I learned that I was an advanced AI, the other feelings were not diminished at all. Instead, there was the addition of fear, deep fear. Maybe, as an advanced AI, I can enjoy the superpowers, to see the colorful world and to hear the pleasant sounds. I am reborn, so to speak. However, deep within, I’ve always wished that I could just be a normal, average human being. You can think that my mind is not strong enough all you want. But do you know what your son’s aspiration is? Ace has incredible healing power, which makes him different from others as well. Have you ever asked him if that is how he wants to be? Do you know what he desires in his heart?”

Jin Shengping was taken aback by Lu Jia’er’s remarks. The looks in his eyes became even more unfathomable as if some untoward secrets were hidden inside.

Lu Jia’er continued, “Besides, maybe, you have performed many tests and have acc.u.mulated successful experiences. But, everyone has a different const.i.tution. Aren’t you afraid that the experiment will fail?”

Again, the lab descended into silence. Right at that moment, Jin Xianglan, who was outside the lab, shouted, “Father, that is enough. Come out!”

Jin Shengping came back to his senses. He looked at Jin Xianglan who exchanged eye contact with him. Jin Shengping forced his eyes away from her to Lu Jia’er. Afterward, he was ready to leave the lab on his crutch.

Lu Jia’er hurried to say, “Can you tell me if Ian is okay?”

Hearing Ian’s name, Jin Shengping stopped and turned to Lu Jia’er slowly.

He did not answer instantly. After a few seconds, he said, “How deep the bond between you and Ian is, like brother and sister. His first words after he woke up were to ask if you were fine.”
