She grunted painfully when she accidentally fell from her bed because of the sudden shouting.
"Aw, aw, aw," she winced as she rubbed her backside. She looked at her uncle who's the one screaming his lungs out as he entered her room.
"Why are you shouting, gomo? Is the house on fire or something?" she asked as she rubbed her eyes with a slight yawn escaped from her mouth She's still sleepy yet her gay of an uncle shouted his lungs out in frantic. I just want to sleep more! Is it too much to ask?
"Gosh, Jin Hee! The sun is already up and you're still on your bed! I told you not to stay all night watching K-Dramas with Ji Hyo so that you can have your beauty rest. Now look, you have dark circles below your eyes. Tsk, tsk, tsk it's not a good sight! I'll use a huge amount of concealer on you again!" she couldn't help but pout on her uncle's endless rambles about her K-Drama marathon with Im Ji Hyo, one of his uncle's restaurant staff (and his only female staff) who is just years older than her. "Get up and clean yourself up, now!"
Jin Hee groaned as she sluggishly stood up while scratching her disheveled hair. Before she could utter a word, her uncle dragged her and pushed her inside the bathroom and left her alone there, closing the door behind her. "Take a bath now, Jin Hee-yah! You'll gonna be late in your cla.s.s!"
She kept on scowling while preparing the shower. She seriously doesn't want to go to that school full of arrogant rich brats. She really gets sick and tired hearing their boastful conversation about their money, their wealth, their net worth, their parents being well-off, their businesses and their luxury.
As if I have a choice. She huffed to herself.
"I know! I know and I will! Just, just get out of my room, gomo!" she shouted inside the bathroom.
"Ah eonneung jom haeyaing! I'll be waiting for you outside," she heard her uncle once more before she heard his fading footsteps out of her room. She sighed in defeat and took a shower. (*In Jeollado dialect, it means 'just hurry up')

"Gosh, you're late again!" she kept on scolding herself while doing a rush single braid on her hair as she got herself off the bus and ran towards the Empire Academy's gate. She did a quick shower earlier, trying herself not to be late in school but ended up staying an hour in her uncle's salon making her hair and natural makeup done—which is really useless by the way because she bet that the makeup's now wiped off because of her sweat and her curly hair was tied in an unorganized manner that she bet, Mama s.h.i.+n will throw a fit about it once he'll see it.
But that's not her main concern as of this moment. She must not be caught by her teacher being late in the cla.s.s.
Jin Hee really thanked the heavens when she saw that the school gate is still open. She managed to greet the poker-faced school guard 'good morning' before running towards their building.
She was panting when she reached their cla.s.sroom's door. She paused for awhile to make her breathing calm. After a minute or two of making her breath steady and wiping her sweat away, she took a deep breath once again and nervously went inside the cla.s.sroom.
"I'm sorry, Madame, I'm—eh?" she almost jaw dropped and looked around when she saw not a single soul inside the cla.s.sroom. She looked at her white wrist.w.a.tch and read the time struck 7:30 AM. "Huh? It's already 7:30 AM. Am I too early? Where are the others?"
"Eo? Jin Hee-ssi! Good morn—ah!" she stopped looking around the room and turned her head when she heard something fell on the ground with a loud thud!. Her eyes settled to the long, blond-haired guy who fell flat on his face. He, then, raised his head to meet Jin Hee's surprised stare. He flaunted an embarra.s.sed smile. "G-Good morning…"
"Ah, go-good morning too, Eui Chul. Are-Are you okay?" Jin Hee asked as she helped him get up.
"Thank you, I'm okay," he beamed as he slightly shook his shoulder-leveled hair which surprisingly falls smoothly. "Thank goodness I have company now."
"Company?" puzzled, Jin Hee looked around again. "Where're our cla.s.smates?"
"Them? Ah, they'll be here later," he answered as he wiped away the dirt from his vest.
"Later? But it's already 7:30 in the morning. They're supposed to be here, right?" she asked, bewildered.
"Eo? Seven in the morning?" Eui Chul asked at her, puzzled. "Is that your past school's standard time? Actually, here in Empire Academy, our cla.s.ses start at eight AM. Sometimes, nine. That's why we didn't bother going to school early," he shrugged.
"Anyway, why did you climb on the fence? Aren't you aware of the school schedule?"
Jin Hee internally scowled. I should have known. I have an hour to continue my deep slumber because there's no reason to rush. Aish.
"I went here early since I don't have any business meetings to observe with my dad. Good thing you came here early. I'm not alone anymore. Hahaha," he chuckled, showcasing his bright smile.
"Business meeting? So you mean, you really have one? But you're too young for such thing," she couldn't help but opine.
"Yes, I know. But, that's what we are. We have nothing to do about it," Eui Chul said, almost in a monotone voice. "As the heirs, as the successors of our family's businesses, we don't have time to enjoy, mess around and play our hearts out. We're trained to hold our companies that we'll inherit in the near future. I almost didn't notice that I'm still a teenager because of the responsibilities that they're giving to us. I even forgot when I experienced my p.u.b.erty," he chuckled at her and Jin Hee knows that it didn't reach his eyes, there's no humor in that chuckle.
4th Law of the Elite: Elites have no time to mess and play around. They are trained in their own businesses.
She almost forgot. It was stated in their rules—in their laws, she meant.
The short silence between them was broke by Eui Chul's ringtone. "Just a minute," he excused himself to Jin Hee which she nodded and smiled in response. She couldn't help but notice the luxury items Eui Chul was wearing and holding.
From those luxury items, you can really say that they're beyond well-off. But… are they aware that there are people who are not as lucky and as well-off as them?
"Yes, Secretary Jung?" she overheard him talking to the person on the other line. "Yes… really?... Now?... Okay. Tell dad that I'm coming," after he hung up the call, his gaze settled on Jin Hee. "Jin Hee-ssi, I might leave you here alone. Dad has an urgent appointment and he needs me there. I have to go now."
She nodded and smiled at her in response. "It's okay, you should go now. Take care of yourself."
"I will. Bye!" he waved at her as he ran out of the cla.s.sroom, almost tripping himself in the process.
Jin Hee couldn't help but sigh when she was left alone the big, s.p.a.cious room, embraced with pregnant silence. When will I be able to understand the people in this place? Them and their rules, their laws. Up until now, they're still big a mystery for me… too complex for me to understand.
She unconsciously hugged herself, rubbing soothing circles on her arms.
This place is too cold for her, colder than the autumn breeze outside.

Because she has nothing to do inside the cla.s.sroom, now occupied by few of her cla.s.smates and because she already finished all her a.s.signments and got bored of nothing to do, Jin Hee decided to stroll around Empire Academy. Even if she's cringing by looking at her rich of brat schoolmates, she walked pa.s.s them like a ghost and continue walking around the place since this is good timing for her to walk around and know the place more. But the more she walked around, the more reality slapped her how this place is much of a hierarchy and how much luck is given to these people to acquire such a luxurious life.
Why common people like us are bombarded with hards.h.i.+ps just to achieve want we want in life while these high-profiled people are poured with easy, opulent life and they can do and have want they want? Haah, life is so unfair. The world is so unfair.
"HEY, WATCH OUT!" she turned her head to the left where there are some students playing basketball. Her eyes widen and she was petrified from where she's standing when she saw the incoming ball to her direction. She doesn't know how to dodge it so she just covered her head, antic.i.p.ating for the ball to hit her. Suddenly, she felt something's holding her and pulling her away from where she's standing. She also heard a loud slam beside her and a ball rolling away from her.
When she felt that she wasn't hit or hurt by a ball or something, she slowly opened her eyes. She gasped as her mouth ajar when she saw a familiar face in front of her, holding her in place. Coldness and seriousness are flaunting on the guy's face and she couldn't help but feel antsy on his hold.
Wait a minute. She blinked while staring at him. This guy looks familiar. Where did I saw him—ah! He's the guy with drawn marks on his face!
"R-Ryeo Wook-sunbae…" those boys who were playing basketball called him in dither. "S-Sorry! We're sorry sunbae!" before Jin Hee could utter a word, those boys ran away from them, as if they're running for their lives. Basing from their expression, they looked so scared to the guy beside her.
She looked at the guy named Ryeo Wook who, she also remembered, is one of her cla.s.smates in Cla.s.s 12-1. She couldn't help but felt a pinch of fear by looking at his eyes full of fury, hot in unknown anger, total opposite to his cold expression. Before she could say something, she was shoved away from him. She slightly winced when she felt a pain on her arm. She looked at Ryeo Wook as she rubbed soothing circles on her abused arm.
"Next time, you should be careful," he said coldly and left her alone.
Jin Hee wants to thank the guy for saving her but the way he acted towards her, it's impossible for her to do so. She remained silent as she sighed.
Seriously, what's wrong with the people here?
She shook her head in defeat. "Nevermind it, Jin Hee. I know you'll get used to them soon. You can do it. Hwaiting!"
She breathed deeply and managed to flaunt a smile before going out the covered court (which she doesn't have any idea how she came there. Maybe she's just really that absent-minded when she didn't notice that she got there).

She's walking silently in the hallway, admiring the paintings that were hanged on the walls as she pa.s.sed by until she got out the building to explore the outside part of the school but the silence was broke as well as she stopped on her tracks because of the excited shrieks and screams she heard from the students, hurriedly crowding themselves on the ground.
"He's here! He already arrived!" the girls screamed their hearts and lungs out while the boys were just crowding with them, antic.i.p.ating someone's arrival that Jin Hee has no freaking idea who is it.
"Hey, move!" Jin Hee gasped when she felt someone shoving her to the side, almost making herself fall to the ground. She scoffed as she eyed those girls who pushed her.
What the actual freak was that?
The shouts and excited screams became stentorian when a bunch of plushy cars—those plushy Lamborghini, Ferrari, Cadillac, Maserati, Bugatti, BMW and Audis entered the school grounds.
Jin Hee creased her brows. Why are they so frantic? Is the president of South Korea coming? Bunch of celebrities? Kpop Idols? They looked like they're antic.i.p.ating on this.
And because she's naturally curious on things, Jin Hee joined the crowd but then, because she doesn't have an impressive height, she decided to step back to the building's entrance stairs for a better view (and she's the only person in that spot).
Her eyes settled on the bunch of handsome boys who just came out from those cars, which she recognized as her cla.s.smates actually.
So, my cla.s.smates were indeed famous in this place, huh?
"Waahhh!!! Kang Woo s.h.i.+n!!! Gosh, he's so cute!!!"
"Kim Jeong Suk! Kim Jeong Suk! Notice me!!!" Jeong Suk looked at the girls screaming his name and he winked as he threw some flying kisses on them, making them faint literally and making Jin Hee cringe… literally.
Such a womanizer.
"Nam Soo Pyo, you're so cool!!!"
"So noisy," Soo Pyo muttered to himself as he plugged in his headphones and put it on his ears.
"Hw.a.n.g Chan Yeol!!! Kyaaahhh so handsome!!!"
"I told you not to use that car again," Chan Yeol grimaced at Chae Ryung, his younger sister as he pointed the red Ferrari. They're at the same cla.s.s because Chae Ryung entered Grade 1, the same year as Chan Yeol when she was still 6 years old. Chae Ryung is low-key a fast learner, as what Ah Young told her.
"Duh, Chan Yeol-hyung. Dad gave me this car so back off," Chae Ryung rolled her eyes at him as she walked ahead, leaving Chan Yeol with a clenched jaw. She addressed him as 'hyung' not 'oppa' because she finds herself puking when she addresses him 'oppa'—totally not her style.
Why are these siblings kept on bickering? Me and Jin Young is not like this. Jin Hee thought and she sighed. I miss that brat even if he's a mischievous goofball.
"Kyaaaahhh Geum Sang Woo!!! You're so handsome!!!"
"Cheon Ha Neul!!! Be mine, please?"
"Ahn Suk Hwan, how to be yours?! Such a cutie!!!" the latter just smiled and waved at them politely as he walked with Ha Neul.
"Koo Han Sol!!! Kyaaahhh Koo Han Sol, be mine!!!"
"Moon Min Seok!!! You're so handsome, Min Seok!!! I love you!!!"
Jin Hee couldn't help but smile when she saw Min Seok just gone out of his car. Their eyes met, making Jin Hee gasped as her heart beats fast and slightly bowed her head. When she slightly looked up, she saw him smiling and waving at her, making her blush a little and smile at him.
How could someone be so heavenly handsome?
"Gos.h.!.+ Min Seok waved at me! He waved at me!!!"
"At you? He waved at me not at you!!!"
"You're both wrong, girls! He just waved at me!!!"
Jin Hee rolled her eyes internally. Min Seok waved and smiled at me. At me, girls. Stop being delusional.
Lol, I'll stop being low-key savage here.
She suddenly covered her ears when she heard roaring shouts from the girls as a s.h.i.+ny limousine entered the grounds.

"Kyaaahhhh!!! Oppa!!!" Jin Hee's eyes settled on Yoon Baek Hyeon who just gone out from the limousine after his driver opened the backseat door for him. As usual, he is still wearing his poker face façade and his aura is defining his authority and power. But for some reason, Jin Hee finds it mysterious… dangerously mysterious.
"Yoon Baek Hyeon-sunbaenim, you look good today!"
"Baek Hyeon-oppa, we love you!"
"Prince Baek Hyeon, you're so handsome today!"
"Sunbaenim, we love you!!!"
Baek Hyeon kept his silent gaze at them and as if it's a signal, they made a wide, clean way for him—no one dares to go into his way.
He really looked so untouchable.
Jin Hee couldn't help but yawn. She felt like she's watching a clichéd teen drama or shoujo manga or anime about heartthrobs who have many fans who are head over heels on them.
What a boring scenario. She shrugged and decided to just go back inside the building to her cla.s.sroom.
But she stopped when she noticed that the shouting died down. She turned her head and saw Baek Hyeon standing in front of an unknown boy. She creased her brows and watched them silently.
"Sunbaenim, what's the problem?"
"I'll give you three seconds," Baek Hyeon blurted out of the blue.
"Huh? P-Pardon?" the boy asked again, puzzled.
"Three."
"Two."
"One. Your three seconds is done," Baek Hyeon flaunted an unamused smirk as he ripped the boy's watch out of his wrist and slammed it on the floor, stepped on it until it was broken into pieces, making everyone stare in awe. No one dares to speak, even the poor boy who owned the broken watch. Baek Hyeon fished his wallet out and signed a blank bank cheque and dropped it on the wrecked item on the floor.
"I already paid the damage," he nonchalantly said as he walked inside the building, making everyone silently follow but maintaining their distance away from him.
"Wow," Jin Hee muttered in pure disgust as she tried to calm herself from her emotions trying to outburst. "What a jerk of a man he is. Wrecking other people's things. Are the people here mute or something? Why aren't they reacting on such rotten behavior? It's totally injustice! Weomae abeoji."
"What are you saying?" Jin Hee felt that a full ice bucket poured onto her when she heard a familiar, authoritative voice behind her—just enough to make her feel the chills on her spine and gooseb.u.mps on her nape.
Oh. My. G.o.d. I'm dead.
She slowly turned to face him after swallowing the lump of nervousness in her throat. Albeit she felt so scared about getting caught because of her ramblings, she managed to flaunt her nonchalant, unbothered façade to him. "You heard me, right? I bet you're not deaf. So why do I have to repeat saying those things to you?"
He let go a mocking scoff before talking to her. "Do you have any idea what are you saying just now? Do you even know me to say such thing behind my back?"
"And you? Do you have any idea what you just did earlier?" she pointed her index finger on him. "You! Did your parents taught you about good manners and right conduct especially to other people?! After what you did to him, that's it?! You'll act as if nothing happened?!"
"You speak like an ahjumma and you sound so stupid," he sneered at her. "You have no idea about what's our business here, cheonhaksaeng. You better shut up, stop lecturing me and keep your opinions to yourself. Move, you're blocking my way." (*ahjumma – old woman, *cheonhaksaeng – transfer student)
"I'm trying to understand that you don't want someone having the same item that you're wearing. But it's not right that you gonna destroy it! He still owns it and he bought it with his own money! It's not like there's no such thing as ma.s.s production and it's not like he doesn't have any right to acquire such watch, you hear me? Do you understand my point? And to tell you, even you're the richest rich among the rest of us here, you can't change the fact that you're still a student here just like us! Tsk," she slightly pushed his shoulder, making Baek Hyeon blink. "You say sorry to him. Apologize to him, now."
He gave her a sharp look. "Apologize? Why would I apologize and lower myself to such a copycat? Even if you're our cla.s.s president doesn't mean I'll follow your orders, nouveau riche. Be an elite before I'll become your follower. Now, move," before he could get out of the scene, Jin Hee blocked his way.
"Yah, I don't care if you're the king of this place just because you're a freaking multi-billionaire or if you're the prince of South Korea. I don't give two flying cents for it because from this angle and situation, you're. still. a. student. Aren't you ashamed of what you did? How impudent you are."
Everyone watching and hearing the scene gasped in Jin Hee's boldness. They felt the darkening tension as Baek Hyeon's expression starts to darken as he threw daggers on the girl in front of him.
"How dare you talk to me like that? The audacity of you calling me impudent," his voice is calm yet everyone can still feel his murderous aura radiating on him. He's trying to control himself because he might end up strangling the girl. "Before I'll do something nasty, disappear from my presence at once," his voice is dripping with authority as he walked pa.s.s Jin Hee, b.u.mping his shoulder on her.
She scoffed and followed him, without minding his murderous aura, she pulled him to stop. "Yah, yah. We're not done yet! You apologize to him!"
"Seriously, you're nothing but a nuisance!" he couldn't control his irritation anymore as he holds her both arms and shoves her on the floor.
Jin Hee glared at him, finding his action violent and rude, ignoring his actually guilty look towards her.
Baek Hyeon breathed deeply and walked away from her. Wincing, Jin Hee managed to stand up and grabbed his arm harshly. "Hey, you arrogant jerk!"
Just when Baek Hyeon turned his head towards her, she meets it using her palm, slapping him square on the face, making him stumble and shove himself harshly on the wall.
Everyone was shocked on that scene but Jin Hee was more shocked than them, especially when she saw the red mark of her palm on Baek Hyeon's face and a small bleeding cut on the side of his lip.
She brought her hand on her lips. I didn't intend to hit him hard. Oh my G.o.d.
But before she could utter an apology, she was pinned harshly on the wall, making her winced with the sudden impact. She exhaled a shaky breath as she managed to open her eyes, meeting Baek Hyeon's fury ones. She was trying to free her abused wrist from Baek Hyeon's hold but no avail.
Dang, it hurts!
"You scared, baby?" he flaunted an evil smirk on her. He, then, showed his Jacob & Co. Billionaire Watch worth 18 Million US Dollars at her, it's the same watch that the boy owned that he just wrecked into pieces earlier. "You see, you just made a crack on my wrist.w.a.tch," he slightly held his jaw. "And… you just slapped me too. Real hard," his face began to darken as he gave her a menacing, sarcastic smile. "Say, should I slap you big time for giving me the audacity of behavior earlier? Heh, if you get down your knees and apologize, I might let you go."
Jin Hee swallowed the lump of fear on her throat and stare at Baek Hyeon with the same intensity as he does. "Let me clear things to you. I. Am. Not. Afraid. Of. Someone. Like. You."
He gave her a menacing chuckle. "Feisty, aren't we? Are you really fine with this?" he held her nape harshly that made her silently yelp but didn't doff her fearless self to him. He, then, smirked. "I acknowledge your braveness, but I am not impressed. You have no choice. What Yoon Baek Hyeon wants, Yoon Baek Hyeon gets."
Jin Hee couldn't process everything anymore. She was petrified even if she felt her knees wobble. She couldn't help but gasp, clench and unclench her hand the moment Yoon Baek Hyeon's sinful lips landed on hers in a swift motion.
After a second or two, he pulled out from the kiss and smirked at her, making her mouth ajar and her eyes widen in so much shock.
Weomae. Abeoji. What. The. Freak. Just. Happened?!
My… my first kiss. My first kiss that I reserved to give to someone that I love…
Got stolen by this freaking devil?!
Oh, G.o.d, what did I do?!
"It's my first time having a fight to someone like you, nouveau riche. It's fascinating," he leaned on her once again, tucked her stray hair behind her ear and whispered. "Be careful on what you'll gonna do. Because starting today, you'll be on my watch, Song Jin Hee."
