While she hadn't realised immediately due to her surprise, he also seemed to be completely unphazed by the magic orb following her around. It usually put people on guard immediately, especially this far out in the east.
"So.. are you going to say anything?" the man asked her. He had already asked his questions. It was her turn to answer them.
"I was just seeking shelter". While Claire didn't feel threatened, she wasn't going to reveal her real reasons for being here.
"Oh, stay for a while then if you'd like" Zaeq replied. He didn't really understand why he decided to come upstairs in the first place. And if the woman didn't care to tell him why she was here, then so be it. If she was just going to rummage around a bit, that was completely fine with him. Having said that, he got up again and started going back the way he came.
Claire was entirely confused by the reaction she got. She didn't expect him to just buy that excuse. It wasn't a good one in the first place. But this went far beyond what anyone would expect. It wasn't about him accepting her excuse, nothing made sense here.
She didn't feel comfortable just letting him walk away and resuming her search. Just what kind of situation would that be? "Wait, hold on" she blurted out, not knowing why exactly she was stopping him herself.

"Is there anything you need?" Zaeq asked as he turned around, his expression unchanged. The only thing Claire managed to come up with was to ask him for long he had been living here. "For a while I suppose". The answer she received was entirely unhelpful. "So how come you're living here?" she continued with another question. "Well I guess I came here and then decided to stay". Another reply that didn't give her anything to work with.
"I'm a magic user, you are aware of that?" she asked not knowing what else to say. "Yeah". Yet another perplexing answer. She had expected at least some kind of reaction bringing up the topic. "Usually people try to not interact with us if at all possible", Claire continued.
For the first time the expression on the man's face seemed to change.
