They're only goal was to go out into the world and give aid to those who needed it. Things like food and water, health care, and education. Basically, the Fallout worlds version of the Peace Corps.
The insides of the fort were buzzing with activity. I had to fight my way through the crowds of people to find a someone to point me in the right direction. The female doctor I found seemed exhausted but, still happily led me to the injured Kings when I asked.
I said thank you and gave her a bottle of water and told her to take a break.
The injured Kings were laying inside a small tent at the edge of the fort. They were suspicious of me at first since they didn't know who I was but, relax after I told the The King sent me.
"So what can you tell me about who jumped you" I asked?
One of the younger Kings who looked more Seriously injured piped up "I'm not sure who it was the jumped us too quickly and I was on the ground getting beaten before I could get a good look. But, I managed to catch on of their names! It was Liu Tenant!"
The older King face palmed when he heard that "Not Liu Tenant, Roy. Lieutenant! It was the dam NCR who did it. "They were all big guys, young too. h.e.l.l, none of them looked even half my age."
"Did you see any of their faces?"
He frowned and shook his head "No, I was face down in the dirt pretty much the entire time."
I asked them a couple more questions and managed to get the general location of where they were jumped, which is the only thing I wanted from them.
I needed to know that because they had wandered too close to a relief station set up by the NCR to hand out food and water to NCR citizens. The NCR didn't want the locals to know about it because they'd riot and claim it was unfair. But, this whole mess wasn't completely the NCR's fault.
The King named Pacer who I met before actually beat up an NCR messenger who was going to ask the Kings about partic.i.p.ating in their relief effort. Pacer didn't tell anyone it happened and the NCR decided that the locals weren't to be trusted and set up the relief station in a secret location.
I immediately went back to the Kings HQ and was stopped by Pacer at the door. "I heard that The King sent you out to investigate the beatings."
"Yeah, and I figured out what's going on and whose responsible for all this Pacer!"
"Look" he snarled "I don't know who told you what but, no one ain't never sent no messenger he. Got it!"
"Hmm, I don't know" I messed with him "I may or may not have heard about an NCR soldier coming here to talk about working with the Kings. My memory messes up sometimes, maybe you might have something to clear it up" I held our my hand?
"Oh, h.e.l.l no! You're blackmailing me!"
"I wouldn't call it blackmail. You're just paying for certain information to get swept under the rug. Politicians do this kind of things all the time."
"d.a.m.n it" he cursed "alright how much you want?"

"Don't know give me an offer."
"300 caps, that's all I got on me at the moment" he said while taking a bag out of his coat pocket.
I took the bag and checked my Pipboy to make sure my money really did go up by 300 and accepted his deal.
"Good" he said "all The King better hear about the NCR from you is that they're a bunch of low life's who are no good for Freeside!"
I nodded and he finally let me pa.s.s an running outside in a hurry.
I walked back into the theater wondering why the h.e.l.l he would trust me. There is no way I wasn't going to tell the king about this stuff.
It might've been a bit underhanded of me to do that to him but, you know what screws Pacer. He was an a.s.shole who put his hatred of the NCR in front of the people he was supposed to be protecting. And besides he tried to scam me out of my money when we first met, I was only returning the favor.
When I explained what was happening to The King he was royally p.i.s.sed, and yes pun intended.
"I knew Pacer had it out for them bears but, I didn't think he would do something like this. I'll make sure he's punished and do my best to get us off of the NCR's bad side" The King said.
"No, probably" I waved him off "this should be enough to pay for my pa.s.sports though, right?"
"Definitely just go down to Mick & Ralph's some time tomorrow and ask them about it. They owe me a favor and'll do it pro bono."
I was just about to leave when a King came bursting through the door "King it's bad, Pacer took a couple of our guys and attacked the NCR!"
"What" The King jumped from his chair "d.a.m.n it Pacer the h.e.l.l are you trying to pull!"
The unknown King continued "They're pinned down and we already lost two guys! What should we do?"
The King looked at me "I know I already promised you your pa.s.sports and you don't have to do anything else for me but, could you please help me get my guys out of this mess."
"Why do you want me to help" I asked out of curiosity?
"Because you ain't a King. If I go there they'll prolly take the chance to take me out too. So, we can't negotiate with them and if we try and take them out we might end up starting a war! You're the only one I can trust who might have a chance of ending this peacefully. And don't worry if you do this for us, The King will owe you a favor and trust me when I say a favor from me is as good as gold."
My only response to him was to nod and say "ok" before running out the door.
