Alfred was walking around the city, searching for traces of the vampire. There were three guards with him, who were helping him out and carrying his orders. That was a privilege which only a few people could afford. The t.i.tle of Hero of the humans wasn't only for show, it had a lot of power even with the n.o.bles. There were only a few people who could order him around, which made him his own master most of the time.

He saw another group in front of him. The leader of this group was the Guard's captain who had asked them back then to check the body. "Captain Rhodes, did you find anything?" Alfred asked, walking towards the group.

"Not yet, it's only been a day and the only reports we have are the usual. ****, people missing, killing in the back streets, but not any evidence of a vampire." Rhodes summarized what he knew.

"That leaves us with two possibilities. First, the vampire is already out of the city. Second, he is more cautious and disposes of the corpses."

Alfred was already worried about this. If the vampire had left the city, they would have to search anyway for at least a week. If not, it would be really hard to find him.

"Okay, let's start with the missing people. The place where they were seen last, anyone who knew them and their habits- everything can help us in gathering clues." Alfred had finally decided on their next move.

"Yes, Hero! We'll do as you say!" The captain bowed to him and walked in another direction, preparing to start the investigation.

**************************

The night came again. Richard, Erin, and Anna left the inn for their next hunt. Walking out of it, Richard's eyes focused on a spot about thirty meters from the inn.

"Alright, time for the hunt. Follow me."

He started walking to a back street, moving his gaze away from the spot he was looking at.

At that spot, there was a man in black clothes. His back was full of sweat at that moment and his eyes were wide open. He had the feeling that his life could end in the next moment. Only after the group of three left his vision did he relax his tensed body. That made him fall on his knees, taking deep breaths. He was sure the one who just looked at him was a lot stronger than anyone he met before.

"What in the world is happening here? The information was about weak n.o.bles and their mage slave, not something like that. Can it be a different group? No, the description is the same. I am out of this, better keep my life."

Saying that he turned around, making his escape, but in front of him stood Richard with a smirk at his face. "You'll be good as an appetizer." Richard's smirk became wider. The black-clothed man froze on the spot, he wasn't even able to comprehend what was happening before Richard started to drink his blood. His body started convulsing as his lifeforce started leaving him bit by bit. After about thirty seconds, his body hit the ground and was engulfed by shadows.

"It seems like they have finally started to move. Hmm, let's be a bit safer. I can see Lyse is important for Erin." Muttering to himself, Richard waved his hand and a shadow crossed the street, going to Lyse's room.

**********************

Lyse had just finished her dinner and walked back to her room. The last few days opened her eyes towards the group she was accompanying. They were good to her, with no ill intentions. They might be demons, but she was feeling better with them than with humans or elves. That was quite the irony, to find friends from the demon race. She wasn't expecting something like that to ever happen.

"I g-guess I can start t-trusting them a bit from now on." A grin was on her face, her cheeks were a bit rosy. That was a good feeling, to have friends. But she still was reserved and wary in front of them. That was her self-preserving instinct. She learned it with her miserable life. If she wasn't on guard all the time, she would be dead by now.

"Well, even if t-t-they are vampires, I can accompany them. I d-don't have anywhere to go, so g-going with them won't be too b-bad for now." As she was murmuring to herself, she laid on the bed. Another good day would finish like that.

She was resting with closed eyes, waiting for Anna to return from her hunt. It was really hard to fall asleep in the city when she was alone. At that moment, she felt something was wrong. The surrounding area became too quiet. Her instinct told her that there was a danger. Her eyes shot open and she stood up immediately. The room started to get colder and colder as Lyse was preparing her magic.

A few minutes later, there was a knock on the door, but Lyse didn't answer. The door was forcefully opened with a kick, and a muscular man tried to come in, only to be met with icicles. His whole body was pierced and he was sent flying backward, hitting three other behind him.

At the same time, the wooden window was broken and people started coming in from there, too. Lyse was now in a hard situation as she was being attacked from both sides. That would be a really hard battle, could she handle them? She concentrated again and prepared for retaliation.
