There, a group of men immediately skinned the wild forest boar and two kids quickly carried the skin to a drying rack near the bonfire. Later as we understood from the situation; the skin will be dried first before being sent to the tannery to be treated before converting it to raw leather.

The butcher then used a cleaver and began to work his way around the wild forest boar and expertly carved one whole hind leg and handed it to one of the men for the unplanned feast.

The meat was immediately washed down with clean water and a dagger ran across the meat swiftly right to the bone. This is to ensure that it cooks faster and the seasoning will spread every. It was then marinated with salt and other condiments before being wrapped in multiple layers of banana leaves. An underground pit was dug out immediately at the side of the bonfire.

Someone from the bonfire recognized Eun and walked forward and gave a big manly embrace.

That friend of Eun's then helped to dump and layered the ground of the pit with hot embers before placing the wrapped package into the pit. After layering the wrapped package with fine sand, he then dumped a whole lot of more embers and flat stones on top before he covered it with sand. Using a stick he poked some holes on top for ventilation.

Eun was busy discussing some matters afterward with his friend and nodding in agreement. Then his friend pointed to one of the areas like a meeting point type. His friend gave Eun a thumbs up and Eun replied with two thumbs up and laughed heartily. Little did we know what they were discussing as for the distance, the crackling of the bonfire and the wild chatter of the men and women around the bonfire.

As we sat on wooden logs near the bonfire, Eun came to us with two short bamboo poles that were the length of 1 rib in between the bamboo measuring under 1 meter in length. The rib segment of the bamboo is solid thus it could be used to hold liquid. 4 bamboo cups were presented to one of us.

Eun's friend was present and he said, "Thank you for the forest wild boar. My name is Gao and I am the great-grandson of the Chief here. Welcome to Stone Village. A friend of Eun is also a friend of mine. Drink...! This bamboo liquor is our village specialty. We have many so drink as much as you want. After the meal, go to our gathering place to rest. No rain tonight so no worries."

Cheng twisted the top of the bamboo which also served as a cup and poured himself and the rest with the clear liquid. I brought the bamboo cup close to my nose and found a sweet and intoxicating smell.

Even the name called bamboo liquor was not made from bamboo at all; the liquid was made from cooked glutinous rice, a type of yeast meant for fermentation and coconut juice. It was then set to sit for some days for the fermentation process to complete like in 76 hours before it was poured into the hollows of the bamboo jugs and stored away. This was a drink that originated from the Northwest Borneo Island and was as popular as moons.h.i.+ne from the East.

I drank up and let the liquid trickle down my throat. The almost intoxicating smell nearly choked me as the fumes escaped through my nasal and slowly warmed my chest and stomach. It was a perfect liquor called a 'Tuak'.

The men around the bonfire were asking how we could kill the wild forest boar since they saw none of us were carrying any kind of weapons. When Eun narrated the story, the men and women around were sighing Oohs and Aahs as they listened intently. Another round of bamboo jugs appeared and soon everyone got high on drinks.

A few boys came and sat with their parents; I suppose. They brought along some drums that they beat with their hands while another drum was used to beat with a stick. Two small hand cymbals were also present and soon thumps of music by the Blueman Group soon drifted into a slow melody before it erupted into a feverous tempo.

Some men and women stood up and danced wildly around the bonfire while letting out yelps of joy or drunken stupor and moved their arms and legs with synchronized rhythm.

It was a sight to behold after the fortunate encounter with the wild forest boat earlier.

There was a lot of steam emitting from the ground where the wild forest boar's meat was being cooked mixed with the smell of herbs and spices indicated the meat was already halfway done. After another thirty minutes of dancing and drinking while the three brothers had earlier joined in their joyous occasion; the meat was ready.

Gao took a stick and began clawing on the surface of the sand; clearing away the embers and flat stones before exposing the charred banana leaf. He then carefully lifted the package where the charred banana leaves were stuck closely to the meat. He laid it on the flat ground and slowly peeled back the layers of banana leaves.

Underneath the charred banana leaves, the meat was of golden brown. Streams of hot steam raised from the cooked meat and the rich flavor and scent of seasoning permeated deep inside the meat through the cleaving made by the knife earlier was slowly released along with it.

Gao pinched a bit of the flesh and placed it in his mouth... "Aalee aleee aleee aleeeeee leee leee leeee leeee...!!!" a sort of satisfactory cry erupted from his lips that would put Gordon Ramsy to shame with this kind of simple outback cooking.

With that cry, the men and women quickly surrounded Gao with banana leaves on their hands waiting for the distribution of the feast.

I received a large chunk of meat and began to eat. From the smell alone I could tell that it was perfectly done and the mixture of the seasonings and condiments made the meat tender and succulent.

My mouth watered as I pinched the meat and brought a small sliver into my mouth. The taste soon exploded in a mult.i.tude of wonderful tastes that even the famous Barbequed And Grill shop in my time would be a thing of the past. Especially when the meat was fresh and the catch was free.

A few mouthfuls of meat, a cup of liquor to accompany it; I could state that it was a high time to be alive. Even in another era and dimension, wonderful food would always be the best solution to any situation and made me forget where I had come from.

After our fill, I excused myself and made my way to the platform; climbed on it and found that a straw mat had been prepared. Four cotton filled pillow was laid separated by a few inches from each other laying side by side.

Four pieces of the thin woolen blanket were prepared. I quickly laid my head on the pillow; picking the end for my spot. I took the thin blanket and covered my body and legs for I am sure mosquitoes would find a way to bite at exposed skin.

I tugged at the blanket and soon my eyes were heavy with sleep.

A few moments later after all the food and cups of intoxicating and exotic Tuak; I soon drifted off into a deep uninterrupted sleep till the early morning... ZZZzzzzzzzz.
