Quietness calms the soul most often than not, it provides the opportunity to a.s.sess things the right way, every now and then one's spirit needs the quietness and calmness required to experience freshness and rejuvenation. It is a necessary ingredient to deal or cope with the pressures of life eectively.

Apart from helping you to deal with internal and external pressures, it also avails you the opportunity to constantly ask yourself the ideal questions as you continue on your journey for liberation and greatness.

Solitude is the state of being alone, but it shouldn't be confused with loneliness. It is having people and family around you as needed but you choose to take some time o to be alone for a purpose, for some it is spiritual, sporting reasons, psychological, love and intellectual purposes.

Whereas, loneliness is a state of being sad because one has no friends, family or company. I pray we will never be lonely. It is a terrible position to nd oneself.

Like I always love to say most times, so many things compete for the sanity of an individual that wants to make a dierence in life, it's like there's an agenda of some unseen forces to wrestle with the mind and soul of a potential achiever, so you need to always maintain the right state of mind to continue to stay on course in the pursuit of greatness in life.

Now this is what most people have gotten wrong, they turned to the wrong things to be in control of their thought processes because they were nding it hard to win the internal battle. Many turned to drugs and excessive alcoholic consumption to maintain a balance but only found out they ended even on the worse end of life's equation, some in the process lost their marriages, businesses, careers and even lives.

The thing you must always understand about the issues of life is that nothing goes for nothing, I had looked into the concept of sacrice earlier in this book, so I won't have to deal with it in explicit terms, but it is imperative that you urgently realize that you always have to sacrifice your good to attain greatness.

What does this mean in this context? To be around people is always good, hanging out with friends at all times is good and having a gist partner around is always good, but what is even greater is to spend quiet times to stay above the issues of life, what is even greater is to be apart periodically to constantly be in tune with your soul, what is even greater is to be alone to ask yourself questions about your life in general, what is even greater is to spend time alone to read and write down your vision, and to choose some time to be alone to do a constant appraisal of self.

Most importantly dear people, solitude provides the rare platform for self-evolution. To constantly evolve as positively as life requires, freedom of the mind is needed. Not much can be achieved in a place of noise. That's just the truth. I remember how my dad hated noise. His stern rebuke for noise making used to come to me as a surprise, especially when he needed to write or prepare judgement for the next day or coming days. I didn't understand what it was all about until I started developing my gift ofwriting. Pardon me if you are neither a writer nor a composer of songs, because you might a.s.sume that since you don't need to be alone to write a book or a song then the need for solitude once in a while isn't what you need. NO. Everyone needs quietness every now and then to achieve anything of note or to lead eectively. I will explain it shortly.

The Concept of Noise

We have looked at the meaning of solitude, we have looked at the advantages as well, and we have also differentiated between the word solitude and loneliness. I think to have a clearer understanding of this topic as it relates with greatness or success, we should look into the opposite of the word solitude. Since solitude is quietness, the state of being alone by choice and being apart for a purpose, then the opposite has to be a.s.semblage, crowd, fraternity, a.s.sociation etc.

Now, what is synonymous with the following words I wrote just now i.e. the opposite of solitude, what do these words have in common? The answer is NOISE. Where you have a crowd, an a.s.sembly, an a.s.sociation there will certainly be noise, opinions must be aired and there will be arguments and counter- arguments, some meetings can even degenerate into physical confrontations. Please don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with being a member of any a.s.sociation or an a.s.sembly that is adding value to the society one way or the other, I belong to a couple of a.s.sociations myself. I attend meetings, so you have to attend the meetings of your group or a.s.sociation as at when due. I am only trying to drive home the point of withdrawing

sometimes from the crowd and noise to spend some time alone periodically to listen to that tiny little voice that provides direction when it is needed most.

Noise can be annoying, it causes distraction, it irritates one especially when you are not in the mood for it, little can be achieved mentally in a noisy environment. Noise also aects the direction of an individual because people hardly think things through in a noisy atmosphere. Voices of reason tend to be drowned by noise, so direction can be difficult to find.

The Direction Quietness Provides

We all need direction in life, it is very key to know where you are going at all times, your destination should be clear at every point in the journey of life, if asked twenty times a day about your direction, it should be so clear you can give the same answer twenty times. What helps to make one get to this point is a clear vision, a clear vision has to be written down and edited as time permits. I don't know about you but I know it's pretty diffcult for me to write things down when there are people all around me talking about many things apart from what I wish to write down. So even if you are not a professional writer, lawyer or singer, you need quietness to write down and edit your goals as you move on in life, I will recommend that twice a week you spend three hours alone each time to do nothing else but write down and edit your goals and targets for the next ve to ten years, there will always be guidance from the tiny little voice from within and you will be guided based on your dreams and aspirations, as long as you are on the right path.

Never miss this opportunity to stay apart, nothing much can be achieved when you are always with people day in, day out. When you live like that, you will never have a mind of your own. You will only wake up one day realizing you have lived all your life based on the opinion of others or the dictates of your "crowd."
