"Those are Red Lizards," he said. There was no trace of emotion in his face. He was thinking deeply.
After hearing that, Clark's face turned sour. He quickly turned at the a.n.a.lytics Team member.
The poor fellow's lips were trembling. Beads of sweat are forming on his forehead.
"He's right, isn't he?" he calmly asked. "Ted, answer me."
"Y-Yes, he's right." he nervously answered.
Clark's face turned red from anger.
"Before we head out, I asked you if this mission is safe. You told me that it is. You even showed me a list of hibernating monsters. The Red Lizards are on that list." He said while his green, snakelike veins bulge on his neck and forehead. He's trying hard to maintain his temper.
Ted turned as pale as a sheet of paper. His breathing slowed down while his heartbeat rose sharply. The skinny, four and a half feet tall guy in front of them was close to fainting but still tried to give the towering Clark an answer.
"Y-You're right sir, Bu-" he said quickly, stuttering on the first word.
*BLAM*
"Then why are those Red Lizards coming here!" Clark slammed his hand on the armored truck. The s.h.i.+ning metal gauntlet in his right hand left a mark on the vehicle.
"Clark!" Alex interrupted, "We have two hours. Use it well."
Clark's breathing suddenly calmed down. His tensed veins and muscles calmed, then returned to their natural color. He inhaled deeply before talking to Ted.
"Ted, call every E-rank Hunter, tell them to get ready. Tell the whole a.n.a.lytics team to formulate a battle plan in 30 minutes. Then, we'll have a briefing." he said with a firm voice, "Alex, tell everyone in the mine to gather every Mana Crystal they can for 30 minutes then load it to the truck."
"On it, sir." Ted turned his back, then ran from the direction he came from a while ago.
Alex was about to run towards the mine when Clark called out to him.
"Alex! Thanks."
"No problem, see you later. You big buffoon." Alex said, whispering the last part. After saying that, he ran fast towards the nearest mine.
His words haven't pa.s.sed Clark. The latter's ears caught every word Alex said. His body started to glow red in anger again.
"Even if you whispered 10 meters away, I will still hear you! I'm a D-rank Hunter, don't forget that!" Clark said in a loud voice while veins in his forehead start to bulge up again.
Alex was already out of sight. The blowing wind quickly erased his tracks. He might be a weak and fragile F-rank Hunter, but in terms of running away, no one can beat him.
***********
In the Silverwing Mountains, tents have been set up to shelter the Hunter's against the freezing temperatures.
The biggest tent in the middle starts to produce loud noises from bickering hunters.
**********
"Why are you so afraid of Lizards?" Damian teasingly asked.
The other E-rank Hunters burst in laughter after hearing this.
"Shut up." Clark calmly said while releasing a very thick amount of killing intent.
Everyone turned silent, while Damian's heart skipped a beat.
Having records of killing men and monsters alike, Clark's calm voice and violent aura were enough to send s.h.i.+vers down in everyone's spine.
After making sure that everyone listens, he continued the briefing.
"According to the Recon Team, the Red Lizards can be more than two hundred in number. To lessen casualties, everyone needs to cooperate." the team leader told them.
"The Recon Team will set up traps to slow the monsters. The Mage Team will prepare a preemptive strike from higher ground. Some hunters will come with me. We'll face the monsters head-on. The others will attack the sides. That is all."
Clark explained in an authoritative tone, "After an hour, you should be ready to kill. You are all dismissed."
After dismissing them, the bearlike man immediately left the room.
Every new team member was stunned. They were amazed by their leader's brain and brawns.
"Who made that plan?" a newcomer asked.

A short and stout man grabbed the opportunity to speak.
"Clark personally made that plan, he looks and acts like a bear sometimes," Arthur an older team member explained, "but when he's calm, his brain function corresponds its size."
*********
The clanking sounds and smell of steel wafted all around the place.
Clark took a short glance on the battlefield.
The barren plains covered in a thick layer of snow, waiting for blood to be spilled, lies in front of him.
On a distant cliff, Mages were busy casting their spells. Like paintings on canvas, red magic circles glowed brightly as bluish mana pours into them.
BOOM
BOOM
BOOM
A series of explosions alarmed everyone. Hunters gripped their weapons tightly.
The smoke from the explosions cleared, revealing a silhouette of fast approaching monsters.
Glistening red scales, small, thin bodies, snouts with a row of sharp fang resembling a dinosaur's jaw.
Red Lizards.
Running on their hind legs, hundreds of these one-meter tall creatures approach them.
After the sound of explosions stopped, a dazzling rain of fireb.a.l.l.s showered the monsters.
*BANG*BANG*BANG*
Clark beat his ma.s.sive sword on his s.h.i.+eld, producing a loud metallic noise. Then his loud voice echoed all over the battlefield.
"Attack!"
"AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!"
With Clark in front, the hunters charged towards the beasts.
Clark's ma.s.sive s.h.i.+eld bashed three Red Lizards. The collision was enough to send the creatures flying.
Clark lifted his greatsword while crimson blood dripped from it. After regaining his stance, he lunged towards the Red Lizards.
His glistening armor along with thick killing intent made him look like a bloodthirsty knight, ready to kill anyone who blocked his way.
The sight of their leader terrified the beasts.
But seeing him slaughter three enemies in a blink of an eye fueled their hot-bloodedness.
The other Hunter's morale skyrocketed, their attacks became more vicious, the Mages above cast their spells faster.
Seeing the red, glowing magic circles above, Clark issued a retreat.
After a few seconds later, a barrage of fireb.a.l.l.s pounded the lizards from above.
After the smoke has cleared up, a volley of arrow rained upon them.
The radio hanging on Clark's belt started making noises.
"It's a bit late, but we still got it done Clark." the voice on the radio said.
"Good job, Franz," Clark said while smiling from ear to ear.
Clark looked back then scratched his bald head in frustration.
"What are you all waiting for, Attack!" he bellowed.
Another round of slaughtering ensued.
**********
After an hour of continuous butchering, the hunters have wiped out the Red Lizards.
The white plains earlier was now a blend of red and black from blood and scorched dirt. In the center, Clark lay motionlessly on the snow.
The barren land earlier was now blooming with arrows and corpses of Red Lizards.
Hunters sprawled on the snow, exhausted.
The nearby tent emits green light as healers use mana to heal the injured hunters.
Clark rose, then pulled out a small knife from his pocket. The tall man stretched his body to prepare for their final deed.
"Bring out your knives," he stated. "Let's skin these b.a.s.t.a.r.ds. Watch out for the mana stones."
He grabbed a lizard corpse then started to skin it. The other hunters followed shortly after.
After a while, a hunter started shouting.
"Hey Arthur, I found one!" the young hunter proudly exclaimed.
When Arthur looked, he saw a small blue orb sitting on the young man's hand.
"Rosh, you are a lucky fellow," he jovially said, "give that to leader later."
"Why can't I keep it to myself?" Rosh curiously asked.
"You selfish runt! That small stone is worth more than ten crystals!" Arthur yelled.
"Huh, why?!"
The lad's face distorted. He started to sweat from utter disbelief and uncertainty. The cold blue stone in his hand remained the same, but he felt its weight grow.
Arthur enthusiastically watched the young lad's reaction before talking.
"You green-horn, don't you even read," he said in a teasing manner while having a heartfelt laugh, "that small stone is a mana stone. That stone may be small, but it contains more mana than a crystal. A creature who has mana is stronger, but that stone makes all the work worth it."
A new world exploded to the newbie's face.
In the past, he can only do menial tasks like mining mana crystals, helping out in reconstructing villages, sometimes, cleaning dirty monster stables. The Hunter Organization prevented any combat-related works for F-rank hunters as much as they can. But after breaking through E-rank, combat, and fights like this became the norm.
Lacking knowledge about the topic, Rosh couldn't help but become more curious.
"Any creature with MANA?" he asked in a curious tone, emphasizing the word mana.
Rosh looked very much like a student asking his teacher for directions on schoolwork. The sight of the two made the other hunters curious. The other newbies stopped working and moved a little closer to the two. For them, any new information will help a lot.
"Yes," Arthur said in a confirming voice, "to be able to use mana, we only need mana circuits."
Arthur lifted his hand. A cool-blue line crept from his arm to his palm. A dot of blue light formed above his palm. After a few seconds, the speck grew to the size of a marble.
Rosh was dumbfounded. Seeing a mana ball up close was a dream for a physique augmenter like him.
Seeing the young man's eyes glued to his hand, Arthur continued his explanation.
"Monsters can't have mana circuits. Most are Physique Augmenters like you, their bodies automatically use mana to get stronger," he explained in a very calm manner, "mana stones serves as their mana circuits. Giving them the ability to wield mana and use it to strengthen themselves."
The lad's face turned sour upon hearing this.
Being born as a Physique Augmenter, he was never able to use mana outside his body. As a kid, he wanted to be a Grand Mage. He dreamt of using spells to create thunder and lightning, summoning a giant meteor from the sky, creating powerful storms, and summoning golems from dirt. All his hopes went to trash when he awakened.
Seeing the young man's face filled with both amazement and dissatisfaction, Arthur closed his hands then stood up. The ball of light earlier vanished into blue smokelike threads.
"Don't feel too bad," he said in a gentle tone, his voice sounding like a father consoling his kid.
"Follow me, I'll tell you something."
