face. n.o.body gives you money for the certificates you present or the degrees you have. You only get money for the problems you solve.
Your dream of making money is tied to the successful accomplishment of the dreams of others. If you are not willing to meet their needs, they cannot be willing to part with their money.
Creating wealth is all about meeting people's needs and solving their problems.
What can you deliver?
What ability can you market? What goods do you have to sell? What projects can you undertake?
What product/service can you offer to get some monetary returns?
What service can you render to your society in exchange for money?
All these are one million dollar questions that beg for answers.
It is the quality of what you can deliver that determines both the quant.i.ty and the quality of the flow of funds that will be available to you. Therefore, you must know what the people around you need and be willing to provide it for them.
What do the people around you need? Can you meet those needs?
If you do not have anything to give to your society in exchange for money, you won't get any. Money is a reward for problems solved; it only flows towards you as an exchange of what you give to others.
Being wealthy can be described as having all your needs met. However, it only comes by having the needs of others met. Although this book is about learning to ama.s.s wealth as early as possible in life, but of importance is the fact that we are bound to a.s.sist others if we really want to make progress in this financial race.
Money can not be made until needs are met. A doctor makes his money by meeting the patient's needs. A carpenter makes his by meeting your furniture needs. Tailors make theirs by meeting your clothing needs. Plumbers, engineers, food sellers, mechanics, barbers, all of them make money by meeting one need or the other. Even the author of this book, though a student like yourself, has made some money from both you and fellow students simply by providing this piece of information which meets students' financial needs. It's all about meeting needs.
If all you want is money, all you need is a 'need'. Find one and meet it. Life is all about helping others. The moment your focus in life changes from helping others, it becomes a selfish desire to ama.s.s wealth for selfish reasons, and then making money becomes as difficult as swimming through the ocean una.s.sisted!
If you are not ready to help anyone, your dream of making money becomes a mere day dream. It can be likened to a man trying to empty an ocean with a fist-size basket, what Jesus described as a camel pa.s.sing through a needle's eye; it is practically impossible.
The value you add to other people's lives is your worth and your purchasing power. The value of any currency is not in its color or in the quality of the paper it is made of, but in what it can accomplish. What a N200 note will accomplish, a N20 note, though of the same greenish color, will not accomplish. The difference is in what each can deliver. What can you deliver?
People are not really interested in what you are made up of, but in what you can make from what you are made up of. They are not interested in what talents you have or what abilities you possess as much as they are interested in the relevance of that talent or gifting to their lives. Whatever potential you have that is not relevant to them or their needs, they despise. They only appreciate people who have something to offer them. If you don't, you will be despised.
Your worth is directly proportional to the impact you are making in your environment. If students can get this understanding, life on campus will become more interesting and more satisfying since everybody will need somebody to become somebody in their small community. It is that easy. Your contribution to a society determines your worth in that society. Your impact on your campus determines how prosperous you will be on the same campus. How much value you add to it determines how much worth it places on you.
Progress in life, in whatever field, is made by touching lives. For instance, if you find other students flocking round a fellow student like chicks round the mother hen at the sight of an eagle, either in the cla.s.sroom, dormitories or wherever, a careful check will reveal that the particular student is meeting a particular need in their lives. The need may be financial, emotional, social, spiritual, psychological, academics, material or whatever. Such a student in no time becomes a popular face, and if he knows how to play his cards well, could profit from his gifting.
You too can make a distinctive contribution on your campus. The idea is to make yourself indispensable to the people around you. Purposely watch out for needs to meet, problems to solve, a.s.sistance to render, and wishes to grant. Become an ISP- Instant Solution Provider, providing solutions to the numerous needs of men around you-students, lecturers, and the general populace at large. Whatever you can do to make others happier, please do!
Have a deep sense of service. Always purposefully take out time to look for ways to help people achieve what they want, therein lies your wealth because the people whose needs you meet are indebted to you. The more of their needs you try to meet, the more you get from them. Keep doing it and you will be amazed at the kind of financial returns you will get.
Ask yourself "What needs am I meeting in my environment? If you cannot pen down at least one or two at this moment, then you will need to ask yourself this second question "What needs can I meet on this campus? Once you can answer any of these two questions, you are on your way to building your wealth.
Your going to school is not just to acquire academic knowledge alone. It is basically to build a solid foundation for a successful future. This can only be done if you, alongside with your academics, consciously watch out for these opportunities to add values to other people's lives daily. Watch out for needs around you and ask yourself "What can I do to best meet these needs?"
The answer to this question is the same answer to the question "What can I do to make money?" Whatever you can do to meet their needs is what you need to do to make money from them. It may look stupid, it may look negligible, but it matters not; that is it! The concept is to first make yourself relevant to their existence, then money will soon begin to flow.
You cannot achieve your dream of acquiring wealth unless you are willing to help people achieve their dreams first. Meet other people's needs: It is only by doing so that you get the flow of money you desire, otherwise, you only get the flow of money you deserve. The money you want is in someone's purse, but you cannot expect money to flow to you from the people you have not benefitted in any way before.
At least two of every ten students you meet on your campus have your money in their wallets! You just need to meet enough of their needs to get enough of their dough. Do not just be a spectator on your campus; do something and make money. The great motivational speaker, Zig Ziglar once said "You can get everything in life that you want… … … if you will just help enough other people get what they want"
The money you desire to make is in no where else but the hands of the people around you. They are bound to give it to you if only they see enough reasons why they should. If not, no matter how much you beg for sympathy, they will remain as adamant as possible.
It is not so easy to squeeze out money from people. You need to persuade them to transfer the money to you by making them realize how significant you are to their existence in life. The more you make them successful in achieving their goals, the more you become successful in achieving your goals too. The more needs you meet, the more money you make. The more lives you bless, the better your life gets; because more people will throng to you to bless theirs too.
So, if you are not ready to make a valuable contribution to your world, you cannot experience any increase at all, financial or otherwise. Take up this challenge today. Maximize the greatness within you for the benefit of others.
There is no free meal in this part of the world. If you must get from me, then you must be ready to give to me! Service for money! If you do not render a service, do not expect any money. Nothing comes from my life into your hands until something comes into my life through your hands. If you do not touch my heart, I cannot touch my purse on your behalf. If you want me to empty my pocket for you, you must be ready to pay for it. Any serious-minded person will pay any amount to get his dreams fulfilled, and will only pay the money to those who help him fulfill his dreams. That is how easy it is to get what is in the hands of others.
Most of these Get-Rich-Quick schemes you see on the internet will not work. There is nothing like WWW (Wealth-Without-Work) or TMM (Too Much Money). Whatever you engage in that will not provide an avenue of service to others will hardly bring you monetary rewards. Everyone must do something for someone to make something for himself.
We may unconsciously get so obsessed with our own needs that we no longer care either about our environment or those therein. But this would be very unfair. You really can touch others in a special way and make the world a better place simply by looking for what others can gain from you rather than what you can gain from others. What matters is not what you receive from them but what they receive from you. What they receive from you in turn determines what they give to you.
Think in terms of others. That is the secret of living a productive life. There is nothing anyone can achieve without others. Your att.i.tude towards others to a large extent is very vital in determining where you eventually arrive in the pursuit of your goal. They need you, but you also need them as much as they need you in order to become what you are destined to be. No selfish man ever lived a fulfilled life. If your thoughts circulates around you and you alone, then you will die alone, and in poverty. No one succeeds alone. We all need one another to become our best.
The more of others you think, the more of profit you make. Little wonder the Apostle Paul exclaimed to the Corinthians church "Let no man seek his own, but every man another's wealth" (I Cor. 10:24). The best way to solve your financial problem is to help others solve theirs.
Life is not like a game of chess where your objective is not just to disarm your opponent of his top officers, thereby creating an easy route into his well guarded boundary, but also to make his game position as difficult as possible (if you have the chance). In making money, making your opponent's game as difficult as possible will not help you. The more difficult his game becomes, the more difficult it is for you to win.
The more you take the responsibility of other people's well being, the more others take the responsibility of your own well being. Cooperate with others to accomplish their vision and men will cooperate with you to accomplish yours too. Forget about your problem and solve other people's problems and others will not forget yours when theirs is solved.
Bless the people and you will be blessed. Solve their problems and yours will be solved. Meet their needs and you will never lack. You cannot touch their lives without touching their pockets. Wealth comes when one or more of the gift of G.o.d upon your life is converted into monetary value through service to humanity.
Meet needs; whatever you do to others will certainly be done to you. No one becomes poor in this world who lightens the burdens of others around him. It is amazing to what extent others can go to meet our own needs when they know we care for theirs.
So many students are languis.h.i.+ng in abject poverty in school simply because their family cannot finance them through college. For such, there is good news. Life can be a lot better; simply be sensitive to the needs of others. It is possible to become so rich as a student that you will have to pay your younger one's school fees, relieving your parents of the stress. Just open your eyes and look around.
Every need you see is an opportunity to make money if well utilized. Each time G.o.d creates a need for someone, He has purposely created an opportunity for another; but most of us do not see the opportunity staring us in the face. What we see is only the problem. We need to 's.h.i.+ne our eyes'. To every problem a man faces, there is a solution somewhere, and the one who proffers the solution gets the accolade for doing so. Much more than that, he also gets the financial rewards. The financial abundance witnessed will be proportional to the needs met.
When G.o.d brought Goliath to challenge the Israelites, it was an opportunity for someone to be lifted. Others ran away from it, but only David recognized the opportunity. Whatever problem people around you are facing, it is also an opportunity for someone to be distinguished. You can choose to be the person.

Everything G.o.d created is a solution to a problem. He has created you to be a solution to someone's problem. It is your responsibility to locate who those people are, and how you can solve their problems. That's what makes life count. It does not matter if you have to do it free of charge to start with. If you really do it well, with time, people will offer to pay anything for your services.
Students with creative ideas for solving other students' problems will always rise to financial prominence in no time. Take advantage of the needy people on your campus; meet their demands and make your money.
Students always desire quality service at cheaper cost. Anyone who can satisfy this requirement of theirs becomes their choicest person, no matter the size of the person's organization, whether an air conditioned, three-storey building office on campus, or a corner of a room in the halls of residence. The location does not matter to students, what is delivered is more important.
Find a need and meet it. Find a hurt and heal it. Find a problem and solve it. As you reach out to others, others will in turn reach out to you. As you take it upon yourself to meet men's needs, men will go beyond their limits to make sure you live comfortably enough all your days on campus. They will focus their attention in your direction and lavish their hard-earned money on you when they discover you have what they need.
When there was no electricity in the world, Michael Faraday found the need in 1831 and met it, and he is remembered till date. When there was no transformer in the world, William Stanley found the need in 1593 and met it, and he is remembered till date. When there was no carrier lift in the world, Elias Otis found the need in 1852 and met it, and he is remembered till date. When there was no airplane in the world, the Wright brothers found the need in 1903 and met it, and they are remembered till date. There is also a need that you too can meet, either in your school as a whole, in your hall of residence, or in your cla.s.sroom. Meet it, and you will be remembered by generations to come.
If you continue to meet other people's needs this way, soon, the impact you make in the life of others and the value you add to life will be more than being measured by any monetary terms. At that level, in addition to the money you make, your fame will begin to spread beyond your campus environment. That's when the real money comes!
May your eyes be opened to the needs around you today. May every scale covering your eyes from seeing these needs fall off your eyes. Every selfish interest that has governed your life thus far is destroyed. Receive the grace to put others first in Jesus' mighty name.
