The straightening her back again, her hand swept the dust off her clothes. "Since I'm the one who fell and took damage, we should just let bygones be bygones. Yeah?"
He just quirked an eyebrow. Then he turned to leave but the girl's voice intercepted him.
"Hey... You forgot this..."
Turning around, he saw a jade pendant dangling in her grasp. Her face was confused as she stares at the pendant, but Jin Kai paid no heed as he s.n.a.t.c.hed it back from her. And like a possessive child that had his favourite toy touched by another, he was incensed and irritated.
And maybe due to the sun being too bright, he overlooked how the jade had gleamed in her hands.
"Sheesh. No need to be so grumpy," She muttered, referring to his angry look when she touched his pendant. "By the way, are you new around here? I've never seen you before."
But he barely even glanced at her before turning his heels and walking away. Therefore, successfully p.i.s.sing her off.
"Rude people these days." She muttered under breath, glaring at him behind his back. Although he heard her and felt her burning a hole into his back, he could care less and continue walking towards the village.
After a few steps, he felt her glare disappearing and soon steps following behind him. He kept walking, but those steps keep on following him. So he turned around and glared at her.
Seeing his accusing gaze, she stumbled, "W-what? I just happen to go the same direction too!"
Hardening his gaze, he gave her a hard glare before walking coldly away again with her following behind him.
Thus, the two walked together to the village with the small figure following behind the large one. Although the two started off on the wrong foot, somehow there's a comfortable silence between them.
They soon arrive at the village, however, the sound of something hitting the ground broke the silence between them.
Turning his head, he saw a middle-aged lady with her face painted with shock and a hand over her chest.
"Oh my sweet girl. Is that you?" She said, her eyes shocked but somewhat relieved and happy.
Smiling brightly, the girl behind him replied, "Auntie! How have you've been?"
Then the woman rushed over to the girl, hugging her and checking her over before scolding the girl which Jin Kai no longer paid attention to. He turned away from the scene and as he was walking away, he heard something that stopped him in his track.
Scolding the younger girl, the woman said concerningly, "Rin! Where have to been?!"
Rin. A name that made his dead heart thump in his chest.
