We were eating together outside in our lunch period, the wind itself blew her beautiful red hair blissfully. We were eating peanut b.u.t.ter sandwich, my favorite. The day was sunny, with few clouds taking hold of the air.
"Is everything ok, Alister? You look down." she asked sweetly.
I cleaned my mouth. "Nothing. I'm ok." I lied.
She locked her eyes on me, raising her eyebrow. My cheeks burned as I looked away. She always do this when I lie. "Come on, Alister. I know you are lying. Did something happen at cla.s.s?"
I sighed. "Joan, there's nothing to worry about. Just some trouble with incompetent fools."
"You mean Barry and his friends?" Joan said.
I shrug my shoulders. "Yeah, maybe. Just know that I tried to fight them, but they always beat me up. It's useless doing anything to them."
"It's not your fault." She placed her hand on my shoulder. "Listen, it's best that you leave them alone. It's for the best."
I gripped my fist. "You know, I wish i can teach them a lesson. Plan my own revenge agains't them. But...I know that sounds ridiculous. They will beat me anyway."
She poked me. "Hey, don't even think about that, ok? Revenge can poison your soul. You are a good man, Alister. Know that well because life can give you better things, if you do good. It's something that my mother always says to me." I studied her and smiled. She always gives me these lessons to me, and I like it to be honest. She always lifts my spirits.
The school bell ringed. The time of torture is at hand. Joan and I sat with each other on a long table with few students sitting and talking to themselves. But also, I detected Barry and his wretched comrades on the other side of the cla.s.sroom, making stupid faces and throwing papers at me. Luckily for me, Joan glared at them and their faces turned from jokers to scared puppies. As the teacher began her biology lessons, I was writing my notes. But, as I wrote my notes, I noticed something different. You see, i started to have these weird visions that I thought it was made up on my head. but as I took a closer look at the teacher, i could see her name floating on her head.
Lisa Andersman
Age: 44
Occupation: Teacher.
Level: 1
These words, they keep popping up during the past days. but, i couldn't understand it at all. What does it mean? And why she has a level anyway? This looks similar to a...video game.
I shook my head, sc.r.a.ping the idea of me thinking of video games in cla.s.s. I mean, I'm an expert at it, but perhaps playing video games late at night must have screwed my mind a bit. Still, I turned my eyes toward Barry and saw something too. The same thing that i saw with Mrs. Andersman.
Barry Towers
Age 17
Occupation: Student
Level: 1
What the h.e.l.l? Why do i see this? It's completely mad. My mind must be making tricks, I'm sure. Does anybody seeing the things that I see? I wonder if Joan knows this and keeps it to herself. But she was busy drawing a husky dog on her notebook, probably out of boredom. The thought of it is ridiculous.
The cla.s.s itself was longer than I thought, and the strange visions floating on people's heads began to pop more frequently. So, to catch my breath, I asked the teacher to go to the bathroom. As I exited the room, I caught a glimpse of Joan looking at me with worried eyes. But i tried to show her rea.s.surance that everything was fine. Didn't want to worry her.
The hall was empty, the sounds of teachers chanting their lessons echoed the hallway. I scurried into the bathroom and opened the faucet to clean my face. Perhaps with this, I can wake up. I looked at my black hair and it was weird so I brushed it neatly. My brown eyes were tired. I was pale, like if some virus has struck me. Focus, Alister. Focus.
I got startled when sounds of heavy footing echoed the bathroom in one of the stalls. I didn't expect someone here because I heard nothing. But still, those heavy footing were...unnatural. I gulped as a huge shadow slithered the stall, and the door slapped open wildly. Then, I opened my eyes as I gazed the hideous monster, emerging from the small stall. It's claws were large and deadly, it's eyes were pulsating red and a gaping mouth that can consume the world. I was petrified, couldn't' move. My legs were glued on the ground, trembling in fear. Am I imagining this?
"ROAR!!!" the monster opened it's mouth and roared with fury. A sense of dread petrified my body, making my eyes swelled with tears. I couldn't move, couldn't spout a word for help. Only watching in fear of the monster from the bathroom.
I fell to the floor slowly crawling away, until the monster lunged at me as I closed my eyes for the immediate death. A cold sense of dread overcome my body as I stood still, waiting for the pain. but, I screamed as Joan shake my shoulder. My eyes abruptly opened as I woke up on the cla.s.sroom.
"Alister, is everything alright?" Joan said with a worried face. What just happened? I knew that monster was real. There's no mistaking it. I was sweating a lot, my palms sticky as I began to think about it.
I didn't say anything. I couldn't because it was clear she will call me crazy. Perhaps it was nothing more than a dream, more like a nightmare. Yes, everything was alright...Until I saw the teacher's name above her head. I couldn't believe I keep seeing these things. Then, I looked at Barry's table, their whispering giggles as Barry smiled and threw a paper ball at me, just like last time. Joan glared a them, their faces turning red. And then, the teacher began explaining about the cellular structure, just like last time. It was like deja vu, like i knew what she was going to say. I looked at Joan and she was drawing a husky dog out of boredom on her notebook as i expected. What the h.e.l.l is going on here? Is that monster really was in that bathroom all this time? If I go there, will I find it? I...have to warn someone. Or someone might get hurt.
My mind warped from time as I was biting my nails thinking about what should I tell the director about it. But, I finally took the courage and asked the teacher to go to the bathroom. I knew she was going to say yes somehow. I looked at Joan and saw the same worried face. I know she is my friend, but i doubt she will believe me.
The hall was silent like I remembered and I saw the school guard patrolling the hall. I quickly approached him and my tongue betrayed me. I couldn't say the guard about the monster, but rather i told him about a stranger infiltrated the school and went for the bathroom. The guard took action and went for the bathroom that I told him. Unfortunately, something worse just happened. A boy not two minutes after I entered the bathroom before, went inside and screamed as the boy got out injured. The guard took out his weapon and yelled to the a.s.sailant. I felt bad now that I said that lie. I gritted my teeth with fear.
Just then, the bathroom door burst open and the monster attacked the guard swiftly. After that, chaos ensued. The entire school issued an emergency evacuation. A pack of students ran away from the cla.s.sroom with ma.s.s hysteria. As for me, i was running away from the monster. I felt it's presence behind me, chasing me beyond the halls like a hunter wolf. Tears came out as i was scared of my life. I saw it's name: Shade. It's level was 20. It was ridiculous that i was seeing that, but i did.
As i exited the school and ran toward the street, the monster lunged at me. I crashed to the ground like a rag doll and spin around. I felt it's talons on my neck, feeling the warmth of it. i gulped. I cried. I wanted to go home. To wake up from this nightmare.
"Alister!" A voice I recognized approached the scene. "Get away from him!" I heard a smack at the back of the monster. It flipped out as i breathed out from the pressure. She was sweating and grabbed my hand as I got up.
The monster was not done. It was mad, it's eyes glowing with fury. I trembled as the monster grew in size as It approached like a hunter. Joan pushed me away, grabbing a bat she found on school and made her stance, like a sword fighter. She did take cla.s.ses of swordsmans.h.i.+p one time.
"Alister! Run!" She lunges at the monster swiftly as I yelled at her to stay away. Then, the sound of bells tolled. Everything was frozen in time. The whole world stood still. Joan and the monster stood still like a museum artifact. Then, the skies itself shattered into pieces as the ground itself burst thousands of medieval towers and fortresses, merging and warping together. And then, a giant hole swallowed us all into it, as I saw Joan moving again from her frozen state. I reached my hand toward her as she did too, and together we fell into the void.
