By Ji Su's expression, Chang Wook could tell that Mr. Oh always babied her and was never strict with her. She's never had to work for anything her entire life. He glanced over at Ha Eun, she looked uncomfortable and was forcing a smile. Chang Wook decided to say something this time.
"We wanted to have a proper wedding, but my parents wanted to throw one for us. We just didn't have the heart to refuse them. Since it was rushed, we didn't have the time to send out invitation. I apologize for that" Chang Wook said. He felt bad for s.h.i.+fting the blame on his parents, but they wouldn't be married so soon if it wasn't for them.
Mr. Oh nodded at Chang Wook "You don't have to worry about that. If I was your parents I'd want to throw a wedding as well. I mean, only going back home once a year and you hardly ever talked to them. I'd be extatic too"
Chang Wook was surprised by this. How did Mr. Oh know this?
"Did you investigate him?" Ha Eun asked Mr. Oh. He closed his mouth and looked away.
"How couldn't I?"
"Mr. Oh!"
"Um…" Ji Seok raised his hand "I kind of did the same thing"
"What?!" Ha Eun yelled surprised.
"Stop overreacting. We all did" Ji Hyun said, "He married you, how could we not investigate him?"
Chang Wook felt embarra.s.sed. He's had to investigate people for Ha Eun before and he's found really messed up things that are now forever in his brain and he regrets ever finding them. He never thought he'd be the one to get investigated. He started to think about his past, wondering if he ever did anything wrong that Ha Eun's family doesn't like and, might want him to divorce her for. He's a bit worried now.
"He's such a boring person" Ji Su said with a chuckle.
"Boring but kind" Ji Seok added.
"And with a good background" Mr. Oh said "I never thought I'd get to meet with Mr. Kim, let alone his son. I've invited him to so many gatherings to try and get him as a shareholder, but he always refuses"
"You know my father?" Chang Wook asked.
"Not personally but who doesn't know of your father?" Mr. Oh chuckled "He competes with a lot of the families because he trades on so many things, but he and his company tend to keep to themselves, so they don't get much publicity"
"Now that you and big sister are married it won't be long til the media realize what your background is" Ji Seok said.
Chang Wook had no idea his father was so famous. He always thought his father's company worked with small local shops, that it didn't reach as far as Seoul, but it seems he was wrong. Chang Wook could only guess that his father kept to himself so that he could have a normal childhood and not be in the spotlight every single day. Like Mr. Oh's family.
"I can't believe you guys!" Ha Eun said angrily.
Mr. Oh chuckled "Well, now that we are all acquainted, time to have some father and son-in-law time" Mr. Oh pushed Chang Wook towards the stairs. Ji Seok followed behind.
"Don't worry big sister. I'll make sure father doesn't bully him too much" Ji Seok said. Ha Eun didn't believe him at all.
Once the men were out of sight. Ji Hyun and Ji Su stared at Ha Eun. She wondered what horrible things they were planning on saying to her.
"I hope you know that just because my husband invited you and your husband here and is even planning on throwing you a party, it does not mean you are welcome here" Ji Hyun said. Ha Eun smiled. There it was, those hurtful words. It was amazing how the worst people she has ever met, still continued to be the worst people she has ever met. It was kind of comforting in a way.
"What are you smiling about?" Ji Hyun asked Ha Eun. Ha Eun shook her head.
"You've said the same words to me since I was a child. There wasn't a day where you didn't remind me that I wasn't part of this family. Its kind of nostalgic" Ha Eun said as she walked out of the living room and made her way to the back of the house. She knew they weren't going to follow her, but she could feel their buring glares on her back.
Once outside, Ha Eun looked out at the big pool. She went inside only once, then never again. She could tell by Chang Wook's reaction, while she talked with her family, that he knows that they are more complex than they look.
He's part of the family so he should know what its like, there's more to them than what the public knows but, she wonders how much she could she tell him or if she should tell him at all. Although she'd like to, they won't be married for very long, so telling him about her life would be pointless.
Her head starts to hurt thinking about her past, so she decides to sit down by the pool, take off her shoes and place her legs in the water. It was cold. Ha Eun closed her eyes as she felt the cool breeze. She felt at peace.
"Ha Eun, is that you?"
At least she fell at peace until someone called her name. But it wasn't just anyone. She knew that voice very well. A voice that she could distinguish in a noisy and packed room. It was also a voice she never wanted to hear again.
"Yeah. Its me" Ha Eun said, refusing to turn around for that person.
"Wow, so cold. Not even getting up to say hi or looking at me" the person paused "Are you still mad about what happened?"
"Chung Woo Yeon, we don't have anything to do with each other anymore, what happened back then is in the past. I don't hold grudges" Ha Eun said. Woo Yeon laughed.
"I know for a fact that, that isn't true" he said "You're still angry with your seventh-grade teacher for giving you a B on an essay"
"That essay deserved an A!" Ha Eun said loudly as she turned around to look at Woo Yeon.
"You finally look at me" Woo Yeon said.
Ha Eun widened her eyes at the man she was looking at. He was wearing a black suit and had on his reading gla.s.ses. He must have just gotten out of work.
"Why are you here?" Ha Eun asked him. Rather than answer her question, Woo Yeon loosened his tie, takes off his jacket, rolls up his sleeves, takes off his shoes and rolled up his pants.
"What are you doing?" Ha Eun asked him. He sat next to her and put his legs in the water.
"Sitting next to you" he said. This question he answers!
Ha Eun didn't know what he was doing. They haven't talked in years. He suddenly arrives at the house and decides to talk to her and sit next to her as if that incident never happened.
"Our families have been friends for years but just because they are friends it doesn't mean you get to be friendly with me" Ha Eun told him. She lets down her guard for a seconds and he suddenly comes back into her life. What is she going to do?
