At the age of 12, she was sent to a boarding school which her adoptive parents paid for regularly each month. She had to go back to her grandfather's house during the holiday.
The adoptive father felt that he was being very kind to this adopted daughter who was already seducing people at such a young age.
But after a year, he received the news that his adopted daughter had tried to commit suicide but was stopped by a teacher.
After an examination, she was diagnosed with depression and suicidal tendencies.
At the time, the couple's careers were finally on the right track. They had even bothered their old father to take care of their youngest daughter. That child's energy was unlimited. For an old man, taking care of one was already a little tiring, not to mention taking care of a teenage girl who wanted to commit suicide and had once wanted to “seduce” him.
The adoptive parents discussed again, and for them, they decided the adopted daughter was an unexpected mistake. If there were any emotions between them before, it had all turned into disgust when she “seduced” grandpa for pocket money.
The reason why they still raised her was only due to the fact that the law did not allow them to give her up after having their biological child.
The two, a high school teacher and a public servant, no longer had any good impressions of their adopted daughter who had not taken her own life seriously and had even tried to commit suicide.
They thought about how they had to bring it back to their home, but they couldn't forget how the doctor diagnosed it as having depression and suicidal tendencies. What if it tried to get another violent injury?
They had to work during the day, and there would only be a baby and an old man at home. What if they got hurt?
But they couldn't leave it alone, there was nowhere else to put it.
(Tnote: Yes, they called her an “it” not “her/she”. I wanted to spare you guys the feels, but I don't want to change so much of the meaning behind the words. My anger levels are through the roof at the moment…)
In the end, they decided to send their adopted daughter to a local mental hospital until she was cured.
They didn't think there was anything wrong with doing so. The monthly cost of the mental hospital was high, and the adopted daughter would be treated well there. As adoptive parents, they had already done all they could.
However, they did not devote even half of their efforts to find out if this mental hospital had a black history.
They also didn't check why the adopted daughter would want to commit suicide, whether it was because of the bullying at school, or something else.
The hospital's reputation in the local area was not very good. If a child who liked to play online games was taken to be examined, the doctors would push for hospitalization for addiction.
To the little girl who wanted to commit suicide and leave the world just because she was snubbed by her parents, molested by her grandfather and bullied severely at school; it was like being locked up in prison.
She couldn't die, couldn't get out, and she longed for her adoptive parents to come and see her, to hear them say she was not ill, but they never came because they were “busy".
In the end, she was forced to take medication for a long time. In order to prevent these “mental patients” from making trouble, hospital personnel would force-feed them medicine that would make them drowsy and sleep all day. At night, of course, the “mental patients” would need to be tied up on their beds to sleep.
But after sleeping for the whole day, who would be able to sleep again at night?
They couldn't shout, if they did, they would be scolded and beaten. They could only wait until dawn with eyes wide open in the silent darkness.
No one there cared about her life, and no one cared if she was “cured”.
For her adoptive parents, transferring money from the bank to the hospital at a fixed time every month was what they considered kindness to their adopted daughter.
That was until a “patient” escaped from the hospital. The incident made headlines. The relevant personnel in the hospital were taken away for investigation, and the Dean was put in prison. The “mental patients” on the news were shown standing in a trance in the sun, waiting for their relatives to take them away.
The male lead accidentally saw the news and recognized his twin sister.
The memory of his childhood was fuzzy. He only remembered his sister's appearance, voice, and the way his sister had cried for her brother when she was adopted.
He always thought that he had been living a difficult life, while his sister was adopted by a good family. At the time, he had stood at the door and saw very clearly that they seemed to be a couple from scholarly families. They would smile at his sister and give their sister candy. They also said that they would teach her to study when the three of them got home.
When the male lead's life was full of suffering, thinking of his sister, who was taken away and adopted by a good family and would be loved and brought up by this family like an ordinary child; it would always give him a small sense of comfort.
However, he saw on the news that his sister had been in a mental hospital.
Although the picture was only a quick flash of her; although so many years had gone by, and her appearance had changed a little; his heart believed that it was his sister.
At this time, although the male lead was still struggling with ups and downs in the entertainment circle, he had a few savings. He took out the money and asked for a private detective to help investigate.
Of course, that amount of money could not hire a ‘good' detective. The private investigator he hired only found out that she was indeed the client's biological sister. She was sent to be given treatment for mental illness many years ago, and now the hospital was shut down. She was taken back to her adoptive parents' home.
It was just that, according to the investigation, she was not in her right mind.
Even if you were the most stable person, if you had grown up being treated like she had, you for sure wouldn't be in a normal state of mind.
The male lead immediately went to the adoptive parent's house, and saw his own sister's daily life. Living in a room full of sundries, with shabby clothes, messy hair and numb expression.
It was in sharp contrast to the beautiful, lively and lovely biological daughter in their family who was dressed up so nicely.
He clashed with the couple.
They insisted that they had not wronged their adopted daughter, otherwise they would not have spent so much money to send her to a mental hospital for treatment.
It just happened to be an unreliable mental hospital.
For the male lead, as an elder brother, who questioned them on why his sister was the way she was now, their answer was that it was obvious.
She had a mental illness, did not communicate with others, refused to go downstairs, refused to go out, and refused to touch water. She would s.h.i.+ver and stare at you to death. As her parents, they certainly didn't want to force her to do so.
Then, after hearing that he was the adopted daughter's biological brother, the parents did not even try to inquire about his family, income, or anything else. Without knowing his background, they threw their adopted daughter to him like a piece of garbage.
The male lead was still just a man who had to work as an extra on the production team and struggled to earn money for a living. He couldn't afford to say anything in rebuke to the family in front of him. He could only endure and take his sister home to take good care of her.
Because his younger sister's state was worrying, in order to make her willing to communicate with others, the male lead would repeatedly practice a role in front of his sister when he got a script, and then ask her how he did.
Gradually, he discovered his sister's talent and love of acting.
If it was only talent, he wouldn't take her to the entertainment industry, but she liked acting very much. Only in acting, she would come to life, and then after a performance, her eyes that were always bleak would light up.
This was the only hope the elder brother had — the male lead, to see his sister recover.
At first, he would only bring back one script and let his sister perform it in front of him. After all, she was still unstable except for when she was acting. He rarely took his sister out of the house.
Later, he found out that his sister would sometimes look eager when watching the TV. He found out that not only did she want to act but she also wanted to see herself standing inside that screen.
In the end, he brought her to the production team. It turned out that the Director attached great importance to the male lead. He asked the director to give his sister a role.
