"I hate this game." James was glaring at the slot machine, which had finally landed on what he wanted. He had spent 8 dungeon tokens on rerolls to get what he needed, each time growing more and more annoyed. Part of him couldn't believe the developers had created so many absurd options, but the other part of him knew they had done it to encourage the use of dungeon tokens. James had been worried he would need to actually spend V coin on his rerolls, if he ran out of dungeon tokens. He would have hated that fact.
"Aw, it wasn't that bad." James shot his pixie a glare as she spoke.
"Not that bad? The last three options were Giant Egg, a freaking water dinosaur, and a giant meteorite." Alright, the last option had made James chuckle to himself. Had he not been wasting so many tokens, and had he not already had his heart set on a certain dinosaur, he may have chosen that option.
"Well, are you going to reroll?" Rue's hand was waiting hungrily by the lever, and James quickly shook his...o...b..
"Nope, I got what I wanted." He selected the option, a ma.s.sive T-rex. The moment he did, a second machine appeared, the mini boss roll."
"Oh, good choice." The first slot machine faded from existence, and James's pixie, whom he was certain had a gambling addiction, immediately rushed to the second machine. Before he could even give the go ahead, she pulled the lever. James stared, half interested, at the options as they appeared. He really didn't care too much for what he got, and he wasn't going to waste any more tokens, not now at least.
"Reroll, or keep?" Rue was glancing at the options, and James read them over.
Terror-dactyl
Geargantuam-Saurus
B.L.U.
James's mood went from uncaring, to caring in a second. The joke, the reference, it was just too good to pa.s.s up. Also, he was curious what the acronym stood for. "I'm selecting B.L.U."
As he selected the option, it became available in his Boss Mob Creator screen. Selecting it, he sighed as he read the name. If James had learned anything about the games developers, it was that they would sacrifice logic, for their puns, at any instance. B.L.U.'s name stood for Ballistically Locomotive Ultrraptor. From the looks of it in his screen, it was a six-foot-tall modified version of a velocity raptor, because why not.
The difference though, was that B.L.U. appeared to have steam powered engines on either of its legs, which themselves appeared to be a mixture of skates, and tank treads. Its tail also appeared to be a mixture of a tail, and a chainsaw. Meanwhile, the mini-boss had Gatling guns where its claws should have been on its arms. B.L.U. was a fast-moving hybrid fighting machine.
"Good choice." Rue looked over the mob appreciatively, and James couldn't help but grin as he summoned it. He a.s.signed it a free roaming profile around the town, figuring a wandering mini-boss could be fun. He also noted that while his normal mobs were level 15 on the floor, his mini boss was already level 20. To his surprise, he saw he had 5 upgrade points to spend on the mini boss but decided to wait. His floor was going to be hard enough as is, he didn't want to scare adventurers away. At least, not just yet.
"So, what about your boss mob?" James currently had his boss mob's screen pulled up, admiring the ma.s.sive monster. He was curious how the developers were going to develop a steampunk T-rex, and he was not disappointed. The monster was a ma.s.s of gears, and wires, with ma.s.sive cannons on its little arms. Its body was covered in armor plating, giving it a good amount of defense. James was certain his boss would come with quite a few nifty skills to, and grinned as he saw he had 10 upgrade points for it. He resisted the urge to a.s.sign any, though he did glance across the upgrade trees. He couldn't wait to upgrade this boss. The adventurers were in for a rude awakening when he did. James was certain this boss would gain him a lot of experience.
"I have a special place for this guy." James directed his pixie's attention to the center of town, where he created what almost appeared to be a coliseum formed from fallen buildings. There were large enough gaps under the buildings for adventuring parties to enter, as well as velocity raptors. Once inside, it was like a gladiator arena, with vehicles spread about for cover. This was his boss's arena, this was where his T-Rex would reside.
"Oh, that's fancy." Rue let out an appreciative whistle, and James couldn't help but agree. This was probably his best idea so far.
"Are you not entertained?" He chuckled as he summoned his boss, a ma.s.sive, 20-foot monster. The dinosaur roamed about the arena, taking note of the confines, before letting out a large cry. The roar seemed to echo throughout the entire floor, and James felt the nonexistent hairs rise on his neck. The mechanical roar sent chills through his body. He loved this boss.
"So, do I get to name him?" Rue had a mischievous grin on her face, and James shook his...o...b..quickly. He had found the Old Man Jenkins name was a reference to an old version of the show s...o...b.. Doo. He was not about to let her give his glorious boss a horrible name like that.
"Nope, this one is all mine." He already had a name planned out anyways. "This is going to be my Terminus Rex." As he said the name, he entered it into his boss mob's sheet.

"This floor is going to be awesome." James couldn't hold in his excitement as he took a step back, looking at the nearly completed form of his second floor. He knew there was a lot more he wanted to do this floor, and he knew he needed to keep upgrading his first floor as well. However, considering the amount of time he had been playing DCO, he was feeling really proud of his work. He was curious how other dungeon cores were doing.
"Mhmmm. You're doing a good job." Rue was pouring herself a drink, and James could guess it was liquor. "Cheers." The pixie cried out as she downed the entire drink. Great, his pixie was about to get drunk, and he still had to a.s.sign loot, as well as set up his mimics and treasure chests. Oh well, maybe drunk he could get her to share a few more secrets with him. At the very least, he was sure drunk she would provide him with good entertainment. Grinning, he pulled up his mobs again, and began a.s.signing loot. So much still to do, and 17 hours to do it. James planned on sleeping the last 8 hours of the day, there was no need for him to deprive himself this time. That meant he had 9 hours left. Better get to work.
