The absolute no tolerance in the case of a physical fight rule definitely has a reason to exist. Otherwise it would be too hard for a teacher to judge what really happened. It also encourages students to tell a teacher about the incident and thus sometimes prevents fights. But I personally never really liked that rule. I believe that if someone else tries to hurt you/hurts you, you have the right to beat him/her up. That is the only way to make sure someone never messes with you again.
