Time – 7: 00 PM
It is the day of Prom, a day for the seniors to follow the tradition and make final memories of their high school life.
Edwin Grey waited in the living room, impatiently. He set his camera ready at once to take pictures.
...
Several minutes pa.s.sed, and Edwin finally heard the door unlocking.
The sound of the high heels on the hard wooden floor felt st.u.r.dy and swift. Descending the stairs, Lillian Grey met with her father in the living room.
"Dad, did you see my pair of house keys?"
"I thought I kept it on the couch!"
Lillian Grey searched carelessly, but it was only Edwin who stood in shock.
"Dad, I'm asking you if you saw the keys-"
Lillian saw her father arrested in shock.
It is then she realized that Lillian Grey got dressed up flawlessly for the prom night.
The dress fitted perfectly and made her look stunning.
..
Edwin's usual image of his daughter mainly includes sweatpants, tank tops, jeans, and tops. Only on a very few occasions, Lillian wore dresses, but most of them are average and nothing out of the ordinary.
For the first time, Edwin saw his daughter look like a woman in such an elegant gown.
Lillian saw her father in hysteria; she flinched momentarily.
"Don't you dare say something embarra.s.sing?" Lillian warned, not wanting to hear her father praise her looks.
**
After getting dressed, Lillian took a glance at herself in the mirror and saw how beautiful the dress looked on her. She couldn't believe that the person in the mirror is herself. A smile broke out of her glossed lips.
Regardless of how graceful she appealed, Lillian Grey still felt uncomfortable somehow. The high thigh slit bothered her quite a bit, but Lillian made sure to keep it under control. The waist sat steadily on her hips. However, the exposed back with only straps crossing over her spine is the real trouble. Worried that it might get too chilly at night, she grabbed herself a coat to wear on top of the dress.
Overall, it is the first time, Lillian looked shockingly gorgeous, and it made her feel jittery somehow. Although she carried herself refined for the dress she wore and did not necessarily care about what people might comment, Lillian still felt dizzy deep within.
A sense of unspoken feelings continually lowered her optimistic mood for the night.
**
Watching her father get surprised, Lillian warned him to not go overboard with the remarks. Frankly, Edwin was about to open his mouth but got surprised by his daughter's entrance.
The only sound that heard following Lillian's warning is the sound of a shutter clicking.
Edwin didn't speak, but he had kept the camera facing front, and so, without uttering a word, he snapped the picture; Lillian Grey was too late to react.
"Dad!" she groaned.
"What?"
"Don't expect me to be silent. It is your first and last high school prom. I need photos to make an alb.u.m."
Edwin explained to shut Lillian's growing pout.
"Fine, just a few pictures, and I will cooperate with you, got it?" she suggested.
"Hmm…" Edwin signed.
He did not intend to agree to her deal, but as long as Lillian consented to pose, Edwin appeared satisfied.
..
Lillian Grey found a spot inside the house to stand and take the picture.
The place she chose was the dining room where her mother's portrait lives, mounted on the wall.
Edwin got startled from the scene. He was enjoying his daughter's prom day until now; Lillian's choice made him emotional. Gazing at his wife, who is in the picture and his daughter, who is standing in front of it, Edwin couldn't help but see how alike their features matched.
He agreed and took a perfect snapshot of his daughter standing in front of her mother's portrait; It was then Edwin remembered something. He asked Lillian to wait while racing to his room.
"What happened?" Lillian mumbled as she went to the refrigerator and got herself a drink. All that getting ready part made her weak.
..
Edwin returned with a jewelry box and gifted it to Lillian, saying that it belonged to her mother.
Lillian opened the box to find a fairy designed pendant.
"It was your mother's favorite jewelry. Now maybe the time to give it to you," Edwin said.
"From today onwards, it belongs to you," he added.
Despite the trembling fingers, Lillian graced the necklace softly. With every touch of it, she felt warmth fill her heart, and it seemed peaceful. Hugging the jewelry to her chest, Lillian then took a sniff, and it appeared as if the box got soaked with her mother's scent. It was a familiar smell to Lillian Grey.

..
When she was a little kid, Lillian always stuck close to her mother. Even when she is sleeping, her hands would never let go of her mother. She loved it. The little loved being clingy onto her mother.
Feeling this necklace, Lillian felt as if being closer to her mother. The little girl inside of her jumped in joy.
"Thanks, Dad," she smiled, thanking Edwin for giving such a special present.
"Now, wear it, and I'll take a picture," Edwin said.
"I said I'll only allow you to take a few pictures," Lillian Grey snickered.
"I never agreed whole-heartedly to your deal, now, wear it, and soon, Diego might arrive anytime," Edwin urged.
Lillian wore the necklace and stood in front of her mother's portrait once again for Edwin to snap a clear picture; his smile kept beaming after Lillian wore the necklace.
Lillian Grey saw her father restraining himself hardly. She went over and gave him a big hug and demanded to take a picture together.
Edwin wiped off his teary eyes and agreed.
Both stood next to each other. Lillian circled her arms around Edwin's broad shoulders and tried to hop to reach his height as they took the photo.
Just then, the doorbell rang, alarming the two.
"Ah, it must be Diego!" Lillian said.
"Dad, let Diego inside. I'll be back soon," she added and then went running upstairs after cheekily planting a kiss on her father's cheek.
**
Edwin answered the door to see Diego all suited up for the night.
"..."
"What, Edwin, Am I not looking good?" Diego panicked.
Edwin denied, saying that the boy looked very handsome in his suit.
"Come on in, Diego," Edwin greeted and let him inside the house.
Diego's eyes as soon as he entered began searching for his date, Lillian Grey, impatiently.
"Slow down, young man, Lilly will be joining us soon. By the way, you are going to get shocked when you see her," Edwin jokingly teased and warned.
It only increased Diego's excitement.
As the two waited, Lillian Grey made her entrance grandly from upstairs. She went back to get her mobile phone and her wallet.
"Diego, you-" Lillian stopped in awe, looking at Diego look so posh in a suit.
Diego, when heard Lillian's voice, his eyes flashed fast in the direction and saw the girl coming down.
***
Diego's first meeting with Lillian Grey ended up with both fighting each other during their middle school age. It was Anna, who restrained the two, and built a bond in between them.
Anna's continuous efforts paid off when both made peace with each other, and Lillian suggesting Diego about having healthy compet.i.tions.
Little by little, Diego's impression on Lillian Grey changed from 'this monster girl' to 'this beautiful girl.'
He never knew when his care for Lillian blossomed into love, but Diego feared that Lillian's lack of interest in dating when they entered high school might trouble if he confessed to her. Therefore, Diego kept his love for Lillian Grey hidden deep inside his heart.
When they all became teenagers, Diego grew closer to Lillian and Anna, always protecting his friends, but he secretly kept his extra care for Lillian Grey. Since the girl can already handle herself mature, Diego never had the chance of impressing her with his tacts. Despite hiding his genuine feelings, Diego never crossed boundaries to expose himself indirectly in front of Lillian Grey. He was always careful of his actions and waited for the right time to open out his love to her.
Although the appearance of Giselle in their lives bothered Diego and made him reveal his honest feelings a few times, Diego is still cautious of not wanting to receive Lillian's rejection or hatred.
**
Up until now, Diego's secret love for Lillian Grey never got revealed. Hence when the ever-cautious guy saw the girl he loves in such a beautiful dress, the loverboy within himself couldn't rest in peace.
Deigo felt both his mind and heart go crazy from how gorgeous Lillian looked. The dress suited her perfectly, highlighting her figure. When Diego saw the high slit and got exposed to Lillian's bare thigh, he couldn't stop himself from reddening a little up in his ears.
Suddenly a fear rose in Diego's mind, scaring him that he might soon go insane for this girl standing in front of him.
'No, I should be calm.' - Diego kept chanting to himself while getting drowned from Lillian's presence.
Meanwhile, Lillian Grey's first encounter with the ever-gentleman Diego in his suit left a great impression.
'Wow, this guy can look handsome if he dresses up!' - Lillian remarked to herself.
For a moment, neither of them spoke anything and looked at each other in complete awe. It is the first that both dressed up attractive.
Edwin Grey was the only one who retained his self.
"Enough of the staring compet.i.tion, you two. Now, stand next to each other so that I can take pictures."
Edwin's voice snapped the two out of their zones.
..
"You're looking handsome, Diego," Lillian addressed first. Edwin's voice brought her back to normal.
Meanwhile, Diego still looked defeated in front of Lillian Grey. He couldn't open his mouth to respond and only nodded, quickly averting his vision away from meeting her gaze.
When Edwin proposed to take a picture together, Lillian agreed quickly, but Diego hesitated. Even though he wanted to take the picture, his heart raced too fast that it might explode even before going to the prom. He quivered the position he got stuck.
After Edwin's constant nagging and Lillian's forceful dragging Diego closer to her, the secretly blus.h.i.+ng boy obeyed.
Edwin snapped a few pictures, forcing Diego to pose in a different style with his daughter. Lillian felt relaxed. She didn't seem to feel the heat, unlike Diego, who was struggling to his core.
With the final shot of Lillian Grey and Diego standing next to each other, hand in hand, Edwin released the two.
Having escaped from the photoshoot, finally, Lillian's legs gave out, and she collapsed on the couch without spoiling her dress and makeup.
"Dad, I'm sure we are going to arrive late, and it is all your fault," Lillian blamed her father.
The father and daughter argued for fun while Diego, who is yet to come out of his sh.e.l.l, waited impa.s.sively, his mind never focused ever since seeing Lillian in that dress. Diego knew that if he doesn't snap out of it, the rest of the night will become a tragedy.
