"Alright, Let's start with Faries." Kyera offered and moved away. The pale blue fairy who had been Raina's guide before stood ready at the front of the Zither. Raina settled into place and began playing the first tune she had ever learned about fairies teaching her to play the strings. Without hesitation her fairy danced across the strings stopping at each string she needed to play, soon the music filled the court yard while Kyera watched Raina play. It was flawless as Raina picked it backup as though she had practiced every day. Her natural talent poured through the instrument, relieving her tension.
When the song finished Kyera smiled. "Very good, Raina, now we will do something a bit more complicated. You are going to play a Release Melody." Kyera explained as she watched Raina's facial expressions.
"How do I play that?" Raina asked honestly a bit surprised. She had not heard of this particular song before and was curious. They had played so many, both together and the ones she had listened too. Yet, Kyera's musical knowledge seemed to be never ending.
"No, this isn't a song I can teach you to play. A Release Melody is something that comes from inside you. You use it to release emotions that you have pent up and let the music make them real." Kyera explained as she sat behind Raina, offering her support. She guided Raina's hands over the strings.
"How?" Raina asked rather confused. Kyera smiled at her.
"Close your eyes." Kyera whispered and Raina did so. Those long black lashes came to rest against her delicate milk bun cheeks. "Now just let your hands move over the strings." She encouraged gently.
It didn't sound good at first, Raina tried to pull her hands away after just a couple hesitant notes. Kyera didn't let her, she slowly strummed the strings before setting Raina's hands back in place. Then, it clicked. The music stole Raina away.
The notes were soft and kind, they changed tempo and tone expressing the emotional waves that crashed within the child. Tension, fear, joy, achievement, and a sense of oneness all seemed to flow out of her hands. The listening parties realized they were no longer hearing the music, they were feeling it. Each note seemed designed to speak to their hearts and help them feel what she did. Raina's aura began to swirl and dance as it released its pent up energy. Kyera carefully regulated it, making sure the child didn't expend too much of herself. Someone inexperienced could easily deplete their energy stores, and that was never a good place to be.
When Raina slowed to a stop, her body was a bit tired, she felt a little emotionally drained but she felt better. The beaming smile on her face was filled with joy and pa.s.sion for the music. Kyera grinned.
"Well done, Raina." Kyera praised and the once spell bound listeners began to gush over Raina's talents. Even the Grandfather, who honestly had little care for music complimented the child for playing so well. Raina finally turned to Kyera.
"Can you play for me?" Raina asked now that her own practice was over. It was clear Kyera had no intentions to give her further lessons this evening. Kyera smiled and motioned her away from the instrument. Raina dashed over to Vella and the baby and sat down to listen.
