Chapter 11: The Detective Agency and the start of a new Mission

Autumn city was divided into three regions- Royal city, Inner city, and Outer city. However, they were not separated by the walls but based on the standings.

People with high standing lived in the inner city while people with lower standing lived in the outer city. As for the Royal city, only the members of royalty lived there.

The buildings in Royal city were the tallest, reaching up to 3000 ft with around 200 floors while buildings in the inner city were about 2000 ft tall with around 130 floors and buildings in the outer city were around 1000 ft tall with around 80 floors.

From this, one could imagine how poor the people of lower standings were.

They were so poor that that king and people of other nations wished they were poor like them.

This was not only the case for Autumn, but the other four cities were also like developed like the Autumn. Some believed the progress was because there were no wars in the Lanrobi while some thought it was because of the king being so far-sighted and having no interest in war.

Whatever the reason was, it made no difference for other warring nations as they saw only Lanrobi as a juicy flesh of meat with a chicken as it's the owner.

At the outer area of the inner city, there was an old three-story building with a small banner at the top. The banner looked very old, and it was densely covered with dust, so it was difficult to see what was written on the banner. Only a word at the end of the banner was somewhat visible. It said "Agency," and it was white in color. The front had only one entrance but other than that there were no decorations.

Many people were curious about this shop as this was the only one in the whole city, probably in the entire nation which had only the three-story. However, because of the dullness of the building, only a few dared to enter inside. And those few who had come ran away with frightened looks saying they saw a ghost. Thus, people also called this building the "Haunted Agency."

Knock! Knock!

"Come in!"

"Good morning, Captain Leon."

"Good morning, Rose. Sit down."

"Umm, okay. Captain, you called for me!"

In the room of that same building, two people were talking. One was a middle-aged man while other was a girl in her twenties. There were wrinkles and a helpless look in the face of a barely good looking middle-aged man while there was a sweet naughty smile on the face of that gorgeous girl.

"How many times do I have to say, Rose? Don't scare those people. If you frighten them, customers won't come to our detective agency." Captain Leon said in a soft voice. It looked like he was having a hard time dealing with the girl sitting in front of him.

"Detective agency? Customers?" Rose looked up at the ceiling. She pretended like she was thinking hard.

"Oh! Are you talking about this run down place? And by customers, you meant those people who asked us to find their lost cats and dogs." Rose continued in a sarcastic tone, but her face looked serious.

"I never knew that the mighty Captain Leon, the head of this magnificent agency, liked those kinds of challenging and complicated jobs," Rose said with a smile while looking at Captain Leon.

'I can never win an argument with this girl.' Captain Leon thought. He looked at her with a severe expression without saying anything.

"It's not like I liked those jobs." Captain continued with a tired voice. It looked like he had already given up. "I had to do those jobs to continue our detective agency. My grandfather pa.s.sed this job to my father, and my father pa.s.sed this job to me. He told me to continue this business and leave behind a legacy which would be pa.s.sed to my son and then after his. However, I didn't do things correctly. Previously I had to go through tough times.."

"Huh?" Captain Leon paused as he realized something. He looked at Rose and saw her smiling. He said while sighing, "Rose, you used your abilities on me again."

"Amazing!" Rose said as she raised her voice. "You found out so soon. It only took you around 10 seconds to realize, and this is your third time. The second time, it was 15 seconds, and in the first time, it took you only 20 seconds to find out."

Looking at Captain Leon, she saw him with a severe expression written on his face. Realizing something, she lowered her head a little and said in a sad, low voice, "Sorry. I promise this is the last time."

"Forget it! It's my fault. I am too careless. I always let my guard down." Captain Leon said. Looking at her expression, Captain Leon noticed that she was not faking her expression. Seeing this, his heart melted; thus he decided to forgive her.

Hearing his words, Rose's expression quickly brightened. She said, "Yes, it's your fault. You always express your strong emotions when we talk about this detective agency."

'My fault! Your head. Did you forget so soon that we aren't allowed to use our abilities on each other? In just a month of joining, you turned my precious building into a haunted house. n.o.body would have thought this girl with a beautiful face would turn out to be a demon.' Captain Leon was speechless.

Not willing to continue on this topic, he decided to talk about the other important things. "Let's talk about something important now. The main reason I called you here."

Rose's playful expression disappeared hearing his words, and a serious expression appeared. She listened attentively.

"Do you remember the boy named Cyril? I talked about him in our last meeting."

"I think I remember him. He was the sole survivor of that train incident three months ago. What about him?"

"It's nothing serious. The hospital called me some moments ago and informed me that he is having nightmares frequently these few weeks. They also said they had introduced him to a professional psychiatrist; however, that didn't help. That's why I want you to help cure his trauma."

"Heeee!" Hearing those words, Rose twisted her mouth in dissatisfaction. "You want me to do common work. I don't want to."

"At least hear me out."

"No means NO. I don't want to do those menial jobs like you. My first mission should be extraordinary, not some ordinary task such as that. Go ask other people to do those boring jobs." Rose looked serious and dissatisfied while speaking.

Seeing this, Captain Leon pretended to give up persuading her. "Fine! If you don't want to, then don't do. I won't force you."

Rose narrowed her eyes a little as she looked at him suspiciously. She didn't expect to hear those words.

Paying no attention to her gaze, Captain Leon continued, "I gave this job to you believing you would solve that mysterious case. Until now, we don't know what happened in that train and why she killed all the pa.s.sengers but left that particular kid."

While speaking, Captain Leon was observing Rose. He noticed that there was a slight change in her emotions. Rose's narrowed eyes widened a little, and her displeased look was replaced by a curious look.

Seeing that fish had taken the bait, Captain Leon added, "I have a feeling that kid was hiding something. I wanted to use my powers, but fearing that it would affect his brain, I stopped. However, on the other hand, your power wouldn't affect him that much, and you are also an amazing, genius psychiatrist. That's why I wanted you to take this case. You would be the perfect candidate for this case."

Finis.h.i.+ng those words, he looked at Rose.

"Ahem!" Rose cleared her throat and said while sighing, "Fine, I will take this mission since you are pleading so much."

She stood up and looked at him. She then sighed softly.

With a sad and unwilling look on her face, She added while walking to the door, "Because of the respect, I have for you in my heart, I will involuntarily obey you this time and take this menial mission."

'Respect, my foot! You are clearly interested.' Captain Leon thought with an angry gaze looking at her back.

Rose exited the room and closed the door.

Hearing the sound of the door closing, Captain Leon smiled like a sly fox.

'Finally, I managed to get this demon out of this building. I hope customers would come by in the meantime. A little side business would not be such a bad idea.'

Feeling satisfied, Captain Leon comfortably spread in his body in the chair and closed his eyes. 'Finally, I can take a nap. There won't be any screaming temporarily.'

Rose exited the building hiding her face with dark gla.s.ses and a mask.

She started walking towards the hospital with quick and small steps and sometimes she would jump.

"Finally, I got a mission that would suit me. Now I need to solve this unsolved case quickly. Hehe! It will be an easy task."

'Fufufu!' She started giggling and looked very excited as her heart was filled with joy. There was a big smile on her face which made her look even more charming. However, others weren't able to witness that smile because of the mask.
