The falling snow silently piled up on the ground. Tooru was hurrying as Satsuki was waiting by the gates.
“You’re gonna slip and fall rus.h.i.+ng like that, my dude.”
“Hey, my girlfriend’s waiting for me. What else can I do?”
The two of them laughed together as Tooru got ready to leave, smiling in return.
It took months for the bullying to completely stop. Even now, things weren’t as they were as before.
His friends went up to him to apologize as well, though Tooru wasn’t sure to forgive them or not. Still, he did, a.s.suming that Amane was behind it all. They’re all friends now.
Jun and Akane were the same old married couple as they were before. It was now a daily routine.
“Alright, see you two later. Don’t start bickering again now!”
“Okay!”
They responded so casually, Tooru wondered if they had truly listened to what he had to say as he ran towards the front gate of the school.
He saw the back of Satsuki up ahead. Unlike that time, she was wearing a jacket.
“Satsuki, thanks for waiting.”
“You didn’t have to rush out like this, Tooru.”
Satsuki welcomed Tooru with a smile, albeit with a bit of concern for him. It wasn’t that sorrowful look that clouded her when they first met, but rather a bright and cheerful smile was on her face.
It didn’t seem like things changed much at home for Satsuki. Well, except for one thing.
No matter how bad of a mood Amane was in, she no longer got violent with Satsuki. Satsuki could live peacefully at home. Tooru found it unfortunate that the sisters can’t be friends, but he wasn’t in a position to speak.
Tooru intended to take Satsuki to see his parents this winter break. Not like to get blessing for their marriage, but to officially tell his parents that they were going out. Satsuki didn’t object to it either, so they planned to go through with it.
Quiet days were precious but any day with Satsuki was nice. Tooru wanted to thank her for that.
“Oh? Where’s your scarf, Satsuki?”
“I forgot it at home. But I have my coat, so I’m not cold.”
“You’re gonna catch a cold like this.”
Tooru gently wrapped his scarf around her neck. So warm, Satsuki said to herself.
“Hey, Tooru?”
“Hmm?”
“I love you. Ever since then.”
Tooru eyes grew wide and then smiled.
But unlike back then, they smiled together.
