Mu Rulan squatted down beside Jin Moli while enjoying the elaborate spread of the three puppet dolls before them. "Look, aren't they so beautiful? It's like they're still alive. Do you think their souls are sealed inside the puppets, keeping them from reincarnating forever?"

Jin Moli was so frightened that she wanted to take action, but aside from her frantically rolling eyes, her whole body seemed to be waiting to be slaughtered.

Mu Rulan had enough of the view, so she released Jin Moli's hair and her head immediately dropped to the ground. By the time Jin Moli recovered her senses, she came to the realization that her body was being dragged out of the room…

Mu Rulan had gloves on while gripping Jin Moli's feet to drag her down the stairs, the smile on her face unchanging and her somber black eyes particularly frightening.

……

Inside a brightly lit study room, Mo Qianren had his golden spectacles perched on his nose while sitting next to the french window. There was a laptop balanced on his lap, and it sounded an email notification.

Under the thin lens, the frosty eyes reflected some of the black lettering in the email.

Jin Moli… Jin Biaohu… Translated by The Novelst

The two… were siblings.

Mo Qianren furrowed his brows. He wasn't able to recall the exact moment when Mu Rulan had revealed a bright smile, but he did see her standing outside Jin Biaohu's room and staring at the nameplate. It might not have mean anything but his intuition was telling him that there was something going on. He couldn't help but suspect that Jin Moli's missing persons case was related to Mu Rulan…

Suddenly, he seemed to think of something as a light flashed through his eyes. Mo Qianren immediately stood up, put down his gla.s.ses, and strode out in large steps.

Mother Lu was cooking hot soup for Lu Zimeng and had made extra for Mo Qianren. Before she could open the door with the food, she was almost bowled over by Mo Qianren. "Eh… Qianren ah, you…"

Mo Qianren's figure had already disappeared around the corner. Mother Lu blinked a few times and knew why he was in such a rush. She mumbled, "This child, I've never seen him that energetic to eat, don't tell me he's on his way to meet another psychopath…"

They knew very well that ever since his youth, Mo Qianren's only interests were in unnatural events.

Mo Qianren ran to the garage and didn't think twice before driving away in Lu Zimeng's newly purchased car.

……

The moon was hung high in the sky, seeming to have been painted red when no one was looking.

Inside the dark villa, the dim yellow bulb in the middle of the house was the only light source.

The staircase was carpeted in dark red, with odd patterns, and a strange dragging noise came from upstairs.

Jin Moli was dragged to the first floor and pulled slowly to the fireplace. Mu Rulan pushed away the small table atop the oval carpet, then pulled the carpet out of the way to reveal a small entrance to an underground room. A soft thud sounded as the door opened.

Jin Moli looked at Mu Rulan's movements, her eyes becoming more terrified by the second. What was she trying to do? Why did she look so familiar in her actions? She… she…

Jin Moli couldn't fight back and could only look at that slim, yet cruel figure while tearing up in despair. Too scary… too scary… this woman was too scary…

"Ah… Why are you crying?" Mu Rulan pulled her legs down underground, saying softly: "Don't worry, I'll be gentle with you."

Gentle? In this kind of situation, wouldn't one just rather beg for a quick death? Being tortured like this, Jin Moli was unable to face death nor hope to survive; what was this woman trying to do with her?

What did she want?

Mu Rulan turned on the strange, dim red lights hanging on the walls. The stairway was dark and damp enough to give the occupants gooseb.u.mps. Mu Rulan bared a smile and ignored the squeaking sounds of the mice hiding along the walls. The sound of Jin Moli's body being dragged in that enclosed s.p.a.ce was especially horrifying.

After a while, she reached the end of the corridor. The entrance of a small room appeared in front of her. There were two metal shelves lining the mottled walls on each side of the room, and on top of those shelves were an a.s.sortment of bottles, test tubes, knives, tools, skeleton models, and much more. The wall opposite the door had many things hung on it: newspapers, magazines, photos… Everything looked very cluttered.

And finally, in the middle of the room, there was a rectangular marble top that looked like an operating table, black in color and cold to the touch.

Mu Rulan put forth some effort to get Jin Moli up onto that marble top. During that time she accidentally put too much strength on her left hand and a sharp pain caused her eyebrows to furrow in pain. Tsk, she never got injured while she was doing bad things, but she always got injured when she was doing good deeds instead. Did this serve as a reminder from G.o.d, telling her that she was a psychopath in this life so she should focus on only doing abnormal things?

The biting cold immediately got to Jin Moli's body, causing her to cramp up. The red light above her was so bright that she couldn't see clearly, but her fear was so stark that she felt that her insides were going to burst. She rolled her eyes frantically in terror, trying to catch Mu Rulan's figure in her sight, tears rolling out of her eyes to streak behind her ears. Humans were usually scared of things that couldn't be seen.

Jin Moli still didn't understand. Why did she have to encounter such a terrifying scene? Wasn't Mu Rulan supposed to be angelic? Why did she look so creepy now? Before she was captured by Mu Rulan, she always took her as a pushover that happened to be widely admired…

Now, Mu Rulan had on a pair of transparent plastic gloves, and in her hands were an iron wire and a toolbox. Inside the toolbox, there were knives arranged nicely in a row. Under that red light, Jin Moli's heart nearly collapsed in dread.

"Mm… ah… ah…" Jin Moli was so afraid that despite her open mouth she could only make weak noises, so weak that only Mu Rulan could hear them. Translated by The Novelst

Mu Rulan smiled gently and looked at her. "Are you scared? What are you scared of? Death itself isn't really that scary, but the process of waiting for it really is something, huh?"

She lowered her body, using her glove-covered hands to softly touch Jin Moli's hair. Sadly, Mu Rulan looked at her: "Why are you crying? Are you really that scared? If you're really so scared of it…" She paused, Jin Moli's reflection clear in her eyes. Mu Rulan seemed to shake off her usual gentleness, only leaving behind a dark, cold gaze like there were dark spirits inside of her screaming to be let out. The smile on her mouth was still beautiful, but Jin Moli was chilled through: "Why did you act like that at that time?"

Jin Moli tried to glare at her as she felt in that instant like she was losing her breath and that death was looming.

"Hehe…" Mu Rulan giggled, slipping back to her warm appearance like the moments before had never happened. She placed the tools to the sides of Jin Moli's head, turning around to put the drugs inside the pottery she had prepared. Slowly, a gentle voice drawled, "Hm… this jar is for… this jar is to put your…"
