Chapter 11 Arc 1.
By all accounts, the average person’s ears are supposed to be one of the most sensitive parts of the body, but even though Xu Ziyue had spoken directly into Sun Mo’s ear, the other hadn’t reacted at all.
All sense of accomplishment instantly vanished.
Xu Ziyue coughed twice, trying to pull back the atmosphere he had just made slightly awkward. “Why aren’t you answering me?”
“Didn’t you want to go to the 6th floor?” Sun Mo answered, but not straightforwardly.
“Uh… it wasn’t just me who wanted to go ah,” Xu Ziyue muttered. “Wait, does this mean I’m special to you?”
Xu Ziyue continued to speak, “Well, you still haven’t told me what’s going on with you and that Sun Xuebao. You have a lot of secrets, don’t you?” He touched his pocket, in which sat his last White Rabbit candy. He took it out and waved it in front of Sun Mo. “Here, I’ll give you a candy! Will you tell me now?”
Sun Mo looked at the White Rabbit candy, and then replied, “Eating too much candy will give you cavities.”
“……That’s not the point, bro.” This was too much of a departure from the main topic.
Sun Mo then added, “Though, I won’t get any cavities.”
Xu Ziyue: “???”
Sun Mo looked at the White Rabbit candy again. “Are you trying to bribe me?”
Xu Ziyue stared some more at Sun Mo. “Yes, though I don’t know how successful it’ll be ah….”
Sun Mo replied, “Sun Xuebao is my cousin.”
Xu Ziyue blinked, waiting for Sun Mo to say more. When the other didn’t elaborate, he prompted, “And?”
“You only have one piece of candy.”
The implication was that Xu Ziyue’s bribe was too little, and that it was only enough for him to say one sentence.
Xu Ziyue looked at Sun Mo like he was a heartless man.
When the bell rang, Xu Ziyue had to move his chair back to his own table. During cla.s.s, while the teacher lectured about course material, Xu Ziyue stared at the back of Sun Mo’s head and thought.
Sun Xuebao had also said that he was Sun Mo’s cousin. And when he had told Sun Mo about everything Sun Xuebao had said, Sun Mo didn’t react with anger nor did he explain. It couldn’t be that Sun Mo really was bad? But Sun Mo was so good to him! Although he isn’t very talkative, and he doesn’t answer questions very often…. but Sun Mo has never hurt him either.
When the teacher turned back to face the board, Xu Ziyue reached out and poked Sun Mo in the back to get the other’s attention. However, Sun Mo stiffened, and when he turned around to speak, his voice was very rigid. “What’s the matter?”
“Uh… I just wanted to ask you something. Can I tell other people? About what you said regarding Sun Xuebao.”
“Do whatever you want.”
Sun Mo turned away and stopped talking. Xu Ziyue, however, was suddenly reminded of how yesterday, he had also tried to get Sun Mo’s attention by poking his back. Sun Mo had also stiffened, and it didn’t look like a reaction out of ticklishness…
The more Xu Ziyue thought about it, the more he couldn’t understand.
At breaktime, Xu Ziyue waved at Sun Mo and then converged with the rest of the players.
He told Zhang Jin and the team about Sun Xuebao, but inevitably coloured the information with his own subjective biases. He also neglected to mention that there was a method to seal the main ghost.
After all, he had no idea if these people would kill an innocent just in case they were guilty…. But Xu Ziyue guessed that it was 80% likely they would try. Since, if he were in their shoes, Xu Ziyue wouldn’t want to stay in this scary world for one second longer than he had to either.
But on the other hand, Xu Ziyue was also not obligated to help them find out the truth and to clear this stage.
He had already provided Zhang Jin with a lot of clues.
It’s just that Xu Ziyue had a huge dilemma ahead of him right now – if Sun Mo really was bad, like if he was a big BOSS or something, then wouldn’t that mean he was on the team opposing Zhang Jin and the rest of the players?
He wants to fall in love, and the object of his affections likely is the rest of the players’ opponent. He would have to go against everyone else, because if his love-target were to disappear, then he would definitely fail his Love-Attack! game as well.
This really was the moral problem of the century… it’d be best if Sun Mo didn’t have any such special ident.i.ty. Xu Ziyue clasped his hands and prayed earnestly to the game system.
In the late-morning cla.s.s, Xu Ziyue decided to just go to sleep. After all, he basically had not slept the night before.
Then, Xu Ziyue had a dream.
Inside the dream, Sun Mo appeared.
However, compared to the Sun Mo that Xu Ziyue knew, the Sun Mo inside the dream seemed a lot more wretched. He always walked with his head down, and the students around constantly ridiculed him. Even the teachers seemed to treat him with suspicion.
