Chapter 11 The Prince has a Good Temper

The Prince has heard the gasp behind him, but he didn’t react.

The maid next to the Prince stared at Languo as if she was a stranger in the court of Daqing.

Which was quite accurate, since Languo wasn’t from this time and place.

The maid stared at her, not knowing Languo’s background, she was just surprised anyone interviewing for the job didn’t know the Prince had leg problems.

Even more awkward, not only did she not know, she actually asked questions, “Do the Prince’s legs not work?”

The Prince didn’t like people asking him about how he was handicapped, which was a taboo topic in the Daqing Dynasty. Anyone who discussed this in private would be dead, and anyone talking about it publicly would also be killed... the maid’s heart beat really fast as she was afraid Languo’s head would be promptly cut-off. This has happened before.

The maid didn’t realize the Prince was in a good mood today, so good that he actually looked up, smirked, and smiled self-deprecatingly, “yes...”

Languo nodded.

The maid was relieved Languo wasn’t to be killed right away, before she took a deep breath, however, Languo’s curious questions continued --

“Is it temporary?” Languo asked.

The maid’s heart leaped up again.

The Prince still looked rather calm, “no, it’s been six years.”

“What?” Languo’s sigh was filled with empathy and surprise. If the Prince was injured, then every good doctor in the dynasty would be mobilized to help, but if six years had pa.s.sed without healing, the Prince’s leg injury was probably permanent, and he was stuck in the wheelchair going forward.

In that instant, Languo regretted not studying medicine and instead wasted her time on psychology during her four years at college.

While Languo appeared sympathetic toward the Prince, the maid already shut her eyes due to terror. The Prince hated others’ pity, which was even worse than being made fun of. Anyone showing sympathy was about to suffer a grave misfortune.

But the Prince’s reaction was very different than usual, making the maid have a dramatic day. He looked at Languo, not speaking, but not angry either, until Languo blurted, “are you jealous others have healthy legs?” to which the Prince actually replied, “not jealous.”

He was chagrined or calm, and certainly not angry, he must be crazy today.

The maid was stunned by the development.

Languo ignored the maid. Since she now knew the Prince relied on the wheelchair, it wasn’t that hard. She knew how to push the wheelchair, didn’t he just ask her to do so? So she would. As she pushed the wheelchair toward a side palace, she kept going back to the same topic, “if you’re not jealous of others, then you won’t chop off our legs, right?”

“Why would I do that?’

“I saw a horror film where a disabled person was jealous of others’ healthy bodies, so he kept killing people and cut off their hands and feet to make prosthetics...”
