It was a scene of harmony. Deep within the tranquil forest where sunlight penetrated the young tree leaves and the earth basked in its warmth, tiny animals frolicked around.
All of a sudden, a ray of light flashed beneath an ancient tree. When the light had dispersed, a slender, well-built figure wearing a white robe lay peacefully on top of the gra.s.s.
The man's features were chiseled delicately. His skin was fine and fair. Although unconscious, his aura remained gentle and graceful. The little creatures looked on curiously. Lying completely still, they mustered up courage, neared his body, and played on.
A while after, the man furrowed his well-defined brows and his dark, long, and slightly curved lashes fluttered. A small groan escaped from his thin, pink lips. He woke up.
The animals quickly scattered but not far. This person's presence gave them a feeling of inner calmness. He finally opened his eyes, dewy and slightly dazed.
An Junyue cautiously surveyed the mysterious forest around him. He was clearly at Mount Hua, monitoring the duel between his s.h.i.+fu and s.h.i.+bo. How did he end up here?
He had just turned twenty-one this year. When he was an infant, his s.h.i.+bo, Master An Yuan, adopted him; as he got older, he cultivated under the tutelage of his s.h.i.+fu. When he had turned sixteen, he was sent out into the world for further training. He was now a second-year university student at Shanghai XX, majoring in Chinese studies. Because of his introversion, all he had to accompany him were his books and laptop, focused on honing his cultivation powers on the one hand and observing the changes of the world on the other.
Despite the effort to distance himself from trivial matters, he stood out due to his handsome appearance and air of elegance. He thus became known as one of "Shanghai XX's Four Flowers" and was nicknamed "The Jade Scholar".
It would have been fine if it was just the infatuated girls chasing after him. He could just hide in places where females were barred from entering. Strangely enough, even the males had begun to pursue him. Unable to stand it, he ran back to the quiet mountain where his s.h.i.+fu lived. Later, his s.h.i.+bo sought his s.h.i.+fu for a practice duel and he stood off to the side, looking on.
In the midst of it, the time-s.p.a.ce fabric had ripped and he unluckily got sucked in.
An Junyue gently sat up and internally scanned himself. His core strength had been depleted eighty to ninety percent. He hypothesized that his jade, a protection artifact given to him by his s.h.i.+fu, had absorbed the force of the time-s.p.a.ce rip. It was gone, probably crushed to dust.
He, as of now, wasn't any stronger than that of an average person.
An Junyue stood up and checked. Most of his belongings had disappeared. The good news was that his clothes, made by his s.h.i.+fu using special silk, were still intact. They had withstood the pressure of the wormhole tunnel; otherwise, his current situation would have been quite awkward.
The only items left on him were his high-grade sword “Ning Han”, hung on his waist, and his small pocket dimension ring (2m x 2m).
An Junyue used telekinesis to look inside the ring. He normally used it as a storage so within his dimension were his daily goods and other miscellaneous things. Fortunately, he also carried with him his cultivation pills and other valuable commodities like jewels and gems. He wasn't sure if they could be used in this world.
There were a few bottles of water but nothing edible. He had to first solve the problem of food security.
An Junyue's cultivation period was short. He hadn't even reached Inedia yet. He was gifted but his powers were lacking. Even though he relied on his s.h.i.+fu's cultivation pills, he was equal to that of an average person who had merely cultivated for three decades. While not afraid of encountering a strong but ordinary person, it would be dangerous if he met a high-level cultivator.
He didn't dare to meditate and recover his inner strength in this alien environment. If he had to wait for self-recovery, it would take an estimated two months. He had better leave here first.
What was this new world like?
An Junyue looked at his surroundings again. He didn't know if this world was ruled by humans or not. After all, the universe was big and anything was possible; however, this world seemed earth-like.
“Guide me the way out.”
An Junyue faintly smiled at the rabbits, deer, and small animals who had gathered around him. His voice was soft and mellow, just like his very being.
An Junyue's cultivation method was “Qingming Jue”, based on the elements of nature. This was why the forest animals liked him and also why people felt affinity towards him. As a result, the small animals joyfully led An Junyue out of the ancient forest.
The tiny county only had one decent, clean inn. An Junyue sat in a corner on the first floor and quietly ate his meal. He had already been in this world for three days. After casting a few spells on unsuspecting travelers, he finally learned of this place.
This was a world where humans dominated. Similar to that of ancient China, he was on a continent that was ruled by the mighty Shuo Empire and beyond its borders were small tribes. Overall, the civilization was a peaceful and prosperous one. Here existed Buddhists, Taoists, and other cultivators. Demons and monsters also existed, but they were mostly hidden. Almost everything was like that of Earth's. People lived ordinary lives, new dynasties replaced old ones, and typical stories of glory and defeat circulated about Wulin.
An Junyue coolly swept a glance at everyone in the inn. Indeed! Half of them either openly stared or peeped at him. He knew that his appearance was an uncommon sight in this county, but he didn't think that it would attract this much attention. He had already worn the jade ornament that his s.h.i.+fu gave up to mask his cultivator's spiritual presence.
He did not bother donning a facial disguise either as he didn't believe in changing himself for others.
In that case, he should leave for a more bustling place. n.o.body would notice him there.
An Junyue deeply contemplated. He didn't like the overly simple and drab mountain lifestyle but rather preferred a carefree environment where he could read, play music, paint, and anything that soothed his body and soul.
To the capital then!
An Junyue laid down his chopsticks and bowl and followed the enthusiastic server up to his room. Jewels and gems were definitely the go-to currency. They were conveniently usable everywhere. His pocket dimension had more than enough to let him live comfortably for the rest of his life. He could explore the lands and recover his strength at the same time. He had always been that type of person who would go with the flow.
After he disappeared upstairs, everyone began to gossip.
“Such a handsome fellow! I wonder where he's from…”
“He totally looks like a scholar, probably a talented one who's traveling to the capital to take the imperial examination.”
“He must be the young master of a prominent family! Maybe even from a family of a powerful official! That aura of his…”
