Chapter 90 - Sort Out
“I see you guys! Hurry up and come out. If not, I’ll open fire!” The kidnapper’s voice rang out from behind the tall shrubs, along with the rustle of footsteps.
Standing in the tree, they could see someone pus.h.i.+ng through the shrubs as he spoke.
Yu Tang frowned slightly. This person clearly hadn’t seen them. It would have been great if he had a bow and arrow. In this position, it would be nothing to shoot a few kidnappers dead. The two bandit leaders weren’t among those who had arrived. It was a few small underlings, and only one had a shotgun.
“Hahaha, they’re here!” The kidnapper laughed loudly and rushed towards the tree that they were in.
Song Xiao’s back immediately tensed up and he met Yu Tang’s eyes, but he received a ‘hold on’ look.
The man with the shotgun wasn’t running in the front, but stayed at the back as he quickly followed the others up ahead.
Yu Tang crouched down. Spotting an opportunity, he jumped down like a hawk and landed on the back of the man with the shotgun, flattening him with a ‘dong’.
“Guh!” A few of the kidnappers cried out in alarm. How had this person done that? He had clearly still been in the tree a moment ago; how had he jumped so far?
Yu Tang didn’t give them the chance to think at all as he forcefully twisted that kidnapper’s neck and seized the shotgun. He rolled across the ground and dodged an attack from a club behind him, then shot that person with a ‘bang!’
“Ah —” The person wielding the club screamed and clutched his thigh as he fell to the ground. Seeing the disastrous turn of events, the other two hurriedly took out their weapons.
This old-fas.h.i.+oned shotgun wasn’t useful at all. After every shot, it had to be reloaded. However, Yu Tang didn’t have any bullets, and the gun immediately became trash.
Using it like a metal rod, he swung the empty shotgun in his hand and struck the head of the kidnapper who lunged at him, then bent down and swept the legs out from under the kidnapper. Jumping back to his feet lightly, he kicked the other person who was close behind in the chest. Flipping the gun around, he jabbed at the first person, who was trying to get back up.
The circular gun barrel didn’t have a bayonet, and it was hard to truly hurt someone with it. However, His Majesty the emperor jabbed the lower three critical points, causing the person to collapse and roll around on the ground.
Yu Tang snorted coldly and turned around to deal with the others, when he suddenly heard Song Xiao cry out in fright. “Your Majesty, behind you!”
At Song Xiao’s voice, Yu Tang instantly turned and jumped away. Right after that, he heard a ‘bang’ as a bullet lodged itself right where he had been standing. He swiftly dodged behind a large tree, and two more shots were fired in a row.
“Motherf.u.c.ker, the Yu family actually found us so quickly; it was definitely this brat that made the call!” Someone walked out from the bushes, cursing. It was the tall man!
Hiding among the tree leaves, Song Xiao grasped the dagger in his hand tightly. Behind the tall man were a few more bandits. It seemed that this signal tower wasn’t far from the warehouse they had been in last night. They hadn’t even been able to see their outstretched hands last night, and had run aimlessly. Now, after following the river, they had actually circled back!
The situation didn’t look too good. If they alerted the kidnappers over at the warehouse, they wouldn’t be able to escape. But what did this person just say? The Yu family?
“Brat, I’m warning you, have a little more care.” The tall man looked at Yu Tang in contempt. He raised his hand and pointed the gun unerringly in Song Xiao’s direction. The sunlight which shone through the leaves glinted off the pitch dark muzzle, giving it a cold, metallic s.h.i.+ne.
Yu Tang furrowed his brow and walked out slowly. “Don’t hurt him; I’ll go with you.”
“Stand under the tree and bring your little lover down.” The tall man jerked his chin, indicating for Yu Tang to walk out in front of him.
Yu Tang walked over very slowly, his eyes fixed on the tall man as if to guard against any movement. Stopping under the tree, he stared at him coldly for three seconds, before he spread his arms and said to Song Xiao up in the tree, “Come down ba, I’ll catch you.”
Song Xiao gave the emperor a meaningful look and glanced at the tall man. Putting the dagger away, he slid down the tree trunk. Yu Tang caught him unerringly, and then rolled over the ground.
k2018;Bang!’ Song Xiao was protected in Yu Tang’s embrace as they rolled over the ground twice, when there was the sudden sound of a gunshot. Before Song Xiao could see what was happening, Yu Tang leapt into a tree with Song Xiao in his arms again.
Turning their heads, they saw a person in a hoodie with one foot on the tall man, whose throat had already been slit. Picking up the tall man’s gun in pa.s.sing, he hit his target with each shot he fired as he completely mowed down the kidnappers.
Someone snuck up from behind to attack him, but the person in the hoodie turned around, and blood splattered in the wake of his hand movements.
Not even a minute later, all the kidnappers present had been dealt with. The person in black looked around, and seeing that there weren’t any other kidnappers, he walked towards the tree and got down on one knee. “Your Majesty.”
This person was none other than Dugu An, who had followed the signal and rushed over.
Holding Song Xiao, Yu Tang jumped down. He looked at Dugu An, who didn’t seem any different, and nodded slightly.
At the same time, the great general had the Yu family bodyguards, as well as the Yu forces in the border town here, surround the timber warehouse where the kidnappers were gathered.
“You lot, guard the main road out of the mountains; you lot, go and draw the kidnappers out; you lot, wait in ambush here…” The great general methodically deployed the troops, and as was his habit during battle in the past, he divided the vanguard and rearguard.
Clem was simply about to go crazy. Could someone tell him why a group of domestic bodyguards were comparable with combat troops?! Why was tactical deployment needed to deal with them, a group of kidnappers?! This was simply looking down on their profession!
As an internationally notorious criminal, it wasn’t his way to hide as he escaped; a few of his underlings rushed out to engage the great general’s ‘vanguard troops’ in close quarters, while he himself rushed towards the off-road vehicle that was outside the door.
The Yu family bodyguards didn’t have guns on them, but the border town forces that laoyezi had organized did. This place was near the border, where administration was messier and a lot of underground organisations roamed the area.
Both sides began to open fire, and using the gunfire as cover, Clem got to the car and smoothly climbed in. His underling who was by his side to protect him was shot, so Clem pushed him aside and yanked the door closed before he started the car and rushed down the mountain.
The great general raised his hand. “Trip rope!”
‘Hualala —’ The Yu family bodyguards threw spike strips out all over the ground, which ultimately punctured the car tyres.
Clem’s car swerved and crashed into a tree on the side.
“Suppress the enemy reserves!” The great general indicated for everyone to continue rounding up the small bandits, and the vanguard troops broke into the warehouse while he personally went to capture Clem.
Yu Tang pulled Song Xiao along as they followed Dugu An out. Song Xiao looked curiously at this secret guard whom he hadn’t seen for the better part of a year. He still walked with the litheness of a secret guard, but at the same time, he was using an infrared detector to examine the underbrush, adapting to the situation as he saw fit.
It was like looking at a swordsman in a light, wide-sleeved jacket, with a sword on his back and a phone in his hand…
“Anyi, why did you only graduate now?” Song Xiao opened his mouth and asked him. He had originally thought that given Dugu An’s apt.i.tude, he would be able to graduate in three months. Who would have thought that he would graduate even later than normal people.
“This subordinate wanted to learn all that he could,” Dugu An replied honestly.
Learn all that he could? Song Xiao blinked. Besides the use of modern weapons and high tech detection methods, what else was there to learn?
Very soon, Song Xiao understood what qualities a progressive secret guard had.
By the time the three of them hurried over to the warehouse, the great general had already beaten Clem’s face to a b.l.o.o.d.y pulp and tied him up like a zongzi>, while the other little bandits had been subdued as well.
The instant the great general saw the emperor, he hurried over and dropped to the ground like a fierce tiger to kowtow, but was stopped by Yu Tang’s cough. Stiffly getting back to his feet, he turned in a circle on the spot and said quietly, “This servant was late to come to the rescue, may Your Highness forgive me.”
“Has this been reported to the police?” Yu Tang took a look at the situation. Modern society was unlike the past; no matter how much power the Yu family had, they still couldn’t murder as they pleased. This sort of matter had to be handled by the police.
“We reported it earlier on; they’ll be here soon,” swore the great general as he patted his chest. Law and order was a mess in the border town, and whether or not a police force was dispatched, they might not have made it in time, so the great general and the others had gone up the mountain first.
Dugu An walked over and showed the great general a satellite photo of the site where they had fought earlier so that he could send people there as well. Then, he occupied one of the cars without a word, and invited Yu Tang and Song Xiao to get in.
Yu Tang looked at the man standing next to the general. That person had one drooping eyelid, and seemed somewhat sinister and cruel. He slowly walked over and greeted the man. “This is…”
“This is Mr Huck. Everyone in the border town calls him One Eyed Snake.” The great general introduced the man to Yu Tang.
Yu Tang extended his hand and shook hands with the man. “Thank you for coming to help.”
One Eyed Snake raised his sole working eye and looked carefully at Yu Tang. He himself was short and small in stature, and looked odd. When these aristocratic princes saw him, they always revealed some disgusted or unhappy expression. However, this Tang shaoye was different. Seeing One Eyed Snake raise his head, his appearance was still unperturbed, while his eyes held respect and appropriate grat.i.tude.
“Tang shaoye, right? The Yu family head mentioned you before.” One Eyed Snake smiled, and suddenly tightened his grip.
Without a change in his expression, Yu Tang skilfully used his knuckle to press and control an acupuncture point in the man’s hand. One Eyed Snake jerked at the sudden pain, and trembled as he drew his hand back.
“Hahaha, interesting.” One Eyed Snake suddenly laughed heartily, and patted Yu Tang’s shoulder. “You’re more interesting than those cousins and uncles of yours. The next time you’re kidnapped and brought to the border town, just look for me directly.”
Song Xiao’s lips quirked when he heard this. These words made it sound like Yu Tang would be kidnapped often.
Yu Tang didn’t say much more, and pulled Song Xiao into the car.
Dugu An sat in the pa.s.senger seat, waiting for the great general to come over.
“Is this your way of saying that you want me to drive?” The great general’s eyes widened. He thought Anyi had called him over for something, and it turned out to be for him to act as a chauffeur.
“I’ve already driven for an entire night. If I continue, I’ll be driving while tired,” Dugu An said monotonously, then closed his eyes to sleep. “If you don’t know the route, just use the GPS.”
The great general choked, and looked at the emperor in the backseat. Yu Tang was leaning lazily into Song Xiao’s embrace, and clearly had no intention of speaking up for him. Driving for the monarch was originally an honour, but after being commander of the bodyguards for so long, the great general was just a little unused to it.
Ordering everyone else to wait for the police, the great general started the car and took the emperor away first.
Yu Tang hadn’t had a proper rest for an entire day and night, and as the car sped along, he fell asleep. Song Xiao was also very tired, but resisted sleep and instead sorted out the things in the backpack.
Yu Tang’s phone was still here, as well as Clem’s phone with the video recording on it; the rest were unimportant and thrown aside. Inserting the battery into the handphone, Song Xiao copied the recording and sent it to his email, just in case.
Hearing that his grandson had been rescued, Yu Taixian let out a long sigh. “Good, good, good, return to LA immediately. Call Dr Roman and have him prepare to examine Xiao Tang first thing when he returns.”
When Yu Lang heard that Yu Tang was fine, he looked at Yu Tong with a deathly white face. Yu Tong’s complexion was ugly as well, but he was still very composed. He watched the family head slowly go upstairs to sleep, before he walked over to Yu Lang, lips barely moving as he said, “Why are you losing your head? This is just an ordinary abduction case, and Clem did it for the money, understand?”
Yu Lang was somewhat worried. “That Clem…”
“Don’t worry, he knows what he should and shouldn’t say.” Yu Tong was very confident in himself. He had previously come to an agreement with Clem that even if the kidnapping failed, he would still pay him a large sum of money, as long as the fellow could escape.
Yu Tang brought Song Xiao back to the Yu house. Butler Cao swiftly arranged a guest room for Song Xiao, and the two of them had a comfortable, hot shower.
The family doctor came to examine Yu Tang, and there wasn’t anything serious apart from some superficial wounds. Song Xiao’s physique wasn’t as good as Yu Tang’s, and he had no strength left after his shower.
Yu Tang slipped into the guest room and helped him put on his pajamas, then bundled him up in the blankets.
“We should go down and see the family head ba.” Song Xiao struggled to sit up. He had more or less figured out the entire sequence of events; they had to seize the opportunity to strike back and take down the enemy in one blow.
“Zhen will handle it, you sleep ba.” When Yu Tang said this, his eyes were somewhat cold, but when he raised them to look at Song Xiao, they were still filled with warmth. Stroking Song Xiao’s soft head, he covered him with the quilt.
Yu Taixian had been the family head for a very long time, and there was little he hadn’t experienced. Having just escaped today, the two of them were glued to each other. If they sat together at this moment, the family head would definitely have an inkling of their relations.h.i.+p. However, even if Yu Tang had to confess, he still had to sort out some people first before he said anything.
