Chapter 76 - Bail

That night, Song Xiao received a notice from the police that his fellow student had been arrested, and they asked him whether he wanted to pay her bail.

“Arrested? Why?” Song Xiao was a little astonished.

“She purchased quite a lot of drugs,” the police officer said. “If you want to bail her out, please pay the bail bond within 72 hours.”

“This isn’t a student from Halun University at all!” The emotions of the person from Halun University were like a roller coaster. At first, he had been proud of himself because he was saving a student, but he immediately discovered that she wasn’t a student from his school, and he became angry. After that, this young lady was actually found to have drugs, and the person in charge now felt incomparable delight. If this young lady really had been from their school, the school’s reputation would have been tarnished.

As a result, after the ups and downs, he was much calmer when he called Song Xiao back.

“How can that be? She personally told me that she was studying a major related to writing and directing.” Song Xiao’s voice came through the phone, and when Bai Qing, crouched on the floor, heard him, her complexion instantly turned gray.

In terms of her educational background, she had initially planned to have a poignant and sad back story. She would tell it to Song Xiao at an opportune moment, and portray herself as a stubborn young girl who had no money to study in a famous university, but still worked hard to sit in every cla.s.s. Now, it was all utterly destroyed. In this atmosphere, the police and school guards had instantly revealed that she was a big liar as well as a bad person.

Before the plotting had begun, it was shattered in such an unsightly manner. Bai Qing sat in the police car as she thought of countermeasures, her brow beaded with sweat. How could she turn what happened today around?

Song Xiao didn’t have the energy to care about Bai Qing at all. For two days, he and Yu Tang worked overtime until the sky turned dark. Finally, they finished the base accounts and planning. Yu Tang handed the rest over to Anna. “We have to go to cla.s.s. Anna will be responsible for leading everyone in doing the rest. If there are any issues, send me an email.”

“Yes, boss!” the team members chorused.

Upon returning to the villa, the two of them lay down and slept straight through to the afternoon of the next day,

Song Xiao opened his eyes and saw Yu Tang looking at an email on his laptop. Yawning, Song Xiao sat up to take a look; Anna had sent a summary of the a.n.a.lysis.

Looking at the red lines in it, Song Xiao frowned. What he had learnt in the past year was comparable to his three years in high school. With a glance, he figured out what the red lines meant. Mentally a.s.sociating it with the information he had previously helped Yu Tang sort out, he couldn’t help speaking up. “Your Majesty, there are issues with this project.”

Yu Tang didn’t even raise his head. He reached out to pull Song Xiao into his embrace and wrapped his arms around him as he replied to the email. “What do you see?”

Song Xiao raised a hand and pointed at a few places. “When I was doing the basic a.n.a.lysis, I felt that something wasn’t right in these places.”

This project was a company which Dayu Capital wanted to invest in. This company was part of an emerging industry, and had sent over all sorts of information. Except for the somewhat messy accounting entries, everything else still seemed alright, but Song Xiao had always felt that something was wrong. Looking at the comprehensive a.n.a.lysis now, he soon picked out the key points.

Yu Tang listened to Song Xiao’s a.n.a.lysis seriously and was silent for a long time. “Zhen knows.”

“Ah?” Song Xiao looked at Yu Tang’s email reply confirming the investment amount, and was somewhat apprehensive. If he knew, why was he still going ahead with it?

Yu Tang looked at his empress’s anxious appearance and couldn’t help moving closer for a kiss. “Zhen has a way.”

This project was something his fourth uncle, Yu Chuan, had handed to him. They all knew that this project wouldn’t be easy, but it would be hugely profitable if it succeeded. Yu Chuan was implying that he was giving Yu Tang a chance to continue to s.h.i.+ne in front of the family head.

But it now seemed that this project was just a hot potato. If it didn’t succeed, it would definitely be humiliating, but if it did, it would still be a financial loss. Everyone a.s.sumed that this project would be very profitable if it succeeded, so Yu Tang would be wrong no matter what he did.

“Your fourth uncle is clearly showing that he doesn’t like you.” Song Xiao looked at the emperor a little sympathetically. Back in Great Yu, all of Yu Tang’s uncles hadn’t liked him as well, and had instead favoured the third prince of the imperial consort.

Yu Tang lowered his head to look at him. “Zhen doesn’t like him either.”

Song Xiao looked at the emperor’s serious face and couldn’t help laughing with a “pfft”.

Right after he finished breakfast, Song Xiao received a notice from the police station: Today was the deadline to bail Bai Qing out.

Song Xiao thought about it and finally decided to make the trip. This Bai Qing wasn’t good at tricks, so before he had the time to deal with Qiu Mingyan, he would keep Bai Qing by his side for the time being as a compromise; in any case, this was better than Qiu Mingyan dispatching someone stronger. If she found a few more villains like John, Song Xiao really might have an accident.

Yu Tang wasn’t happy, and quickly dressed and followed Song Xiao out. The two of them went to the police station together, and saw Bai Qing, covered in dirt and grime.

It was already pretty good that she could get food and water in the temporary lockup at the police station. When Bai Qing saw Song Xiao, the rims of her eyes instantly reddened. “Song Xiao, I’m sorry, I deceived you…”

This time, she had been planning to cause him harm, but Song Xiao had notified the police and saved her.

Song Xiao turned his head to look at Yu Tang. This Bai Qing, could it be that she was coming clean?

Yu Tang knew what the question in his empress’s eyes was, and he sneered and shook his head slightly. It was impossible for Bai Qing to come clean. Looking at the expression in her eyes, it was obvious that she was still l.u.s.ting after his empress!

“I concealed the truth about my school because I was afraid you’d look down at me. You’re so outstanding; if you knew I was only studying in a school like that, you definitely wouldn’t want to be friends with me…” Bai Qing said aggrievedly.

In Bai Qing’s words, she had lied like that for fear that he would look down on her, but she truly wanted to attend the lectures at Halun University; she wanted to rely on her own abilities to get a scholars.h.i.+p and transfer properly to a famous university.

Song Xiao was too impatient to hear her groundless blather, and bluntly asked, “Why did you go to the bar that night?”

“I…” Bai Qing lowered her head and seemed embarra.s.sed. Initially, a beautiful young girl like Bai Qing performing this action would be very attractive. However, the current Bai Qing had been shut up in the police station for three days. With her messy hair, dirty face, and pasty complexion, she didn’t look attractive at all.

Song Xiao looked at her and outright curled his lip. “Were you swindled into going there?” He didn’t want to hear things like “I wanted to drink with you” or whatever. His Majesty the emperor was still standing here, okay?

“Ah? Right, right, I was swindled.” Bai Qing was startled for a moment, and hurriedly agreed.

“You’re really foolish.” Song Xiao sighed. “What to do ne? Buying drugs is a criminal charge which carries a bail bond of 30,000USD. I just lent him money, so now I don’t have much to lend to you.” As Song Xiao spoke, he gestured at Yu Tang to indicate that he had given his money to this fellow.

Yu Tang immediately put on the face of a creditor.

Bai Qing was struck dumb. She originally thought that this n.o.ble gongzi had come to save her, but it turned out that he had come to watch the fun.

“What about your family members back in China? Have them send some money over quickly. I’ll give the police 1000USD to give you a little more time,” Song Xiao said gallantly, and he dragged Yu Tang out to hand over the money.

Yu Tang raised his eyebrows. His miserly wife was actually willing to spend 1000?

After filling out the form, Song Xiao wrote an IOU, then gave it to the officer. “Sir, I’ll have to trouble you to have her sign this as well.”

Yu Tang: “…”

When the officer brought over the credit card machine, Song Xiao held his hand out to the emperor. “Card.”

You want to save a woman who wants to hook up with you, and you still want zhen to swipe his card! Yu Tang hmphed coldly as he took out a Centurion card from his wallet and placed it in Song Xiao’s hand. “The pa.s.sword is your birthday.”

Police officer: “…

1000USD could only extend the situation for two more days. Bai Qing was terrified out of her wits, and could only give Qiu Mingyan a call.

“Why are you this stupid? You can still get arrested over such a small thing?” Qiu Mingyan was very angry. She had considered Bai Qing rather quick-witted, so why couldn’t she even accomplish a small matter like this?

“Isn’t it because you found that black man to give me such a large amount?!” Bai Qing also got angry. The amount she had bought herself was enough for one, and she wouldn’t have been charged at all; at most, the police would’ve considered that it was for herself. But that man had given her a lot, and now the police wanted to charge her for the purchase of drugs.

“What black man?” Qiu Mingyan spat in contempt. “If I had the ability to hire other people, why would I need you?”

Bai Qing was stunned. Wasn’t that man hired by Qiu Mingyan to watch over her? What was going on?

His wife holding his hand out to him for money made Yu Tang very happy, even though he didn’t like what it was used for. After thinking about it, he still felt that he needed to enforce palace rules. “In the future, you can ask zhen for money, but you’re not allowed to spend it on another woman.”

Song Xiao shot him a glance. “The emperor should naturally spend his own money on his own work.”

“En?” Yu Tang appeared as if he didn’t understand.

Sighing, Song Xiao shook his head and walked away. Bai Qing’s confession had been a mix of truths and lies, but the man who had given her the drugs definitely existed; besides the fact that Bai Qing wasn’t stupid enough to buy so much, she couldn’t even produce the money for such an amount.

Exposed by his wife, Yu Tang was a little upset. Walking quickly, he pa.s.sed Song Xiao in two steps and pretended that he couldn’t see him. After taking two steps, he turned back around and took Song Xiao’s hand. “It’ll be spring break in a few days. Come with me to Las Vegas.”

The car accident previously had already touched Yu Tang’s bottom line. Now that he had useful people under him, he naturally had to thoroughly bring those houseflies under control.

Las Vegas was a world-famous holy land of gambling. Gambling was legal here, and casinos of all shapes and sizes were everywhere. In one of the large casinos, a large, white man had red eyes as he pushed out the chips in his hands. This man was none other than the person who had driven the car that had nearly crashed into Song Xiao and sent him flying, John.

“Why go to Las Vegas? I don’t have the money to gamble.” When they returned to the villa, Yu Tang sat on the sofa and focused on watching TV. Song Xiao walked over with a plate of fruit and sat next to him.

A TV station was advertising a Korean show: It was the kind of chairman melodrama that girls liked to watch, and sounded very strange in English dubs.

“Is it enough to buy you for a night?” The male lead took out a wad of won disdainfully and threw it at the female lead’s face. The money scattered with a fluttering sound.

The female lead was very humiliated as she looked at him, and her eyes filled with tears as she said, “Shameless!”

Yu Tang turned his head slightly and looked at Song Xiao, who was eating an apple. He took out a wad of American dollars from his pocket and threw it at Song Xiao’s face.

Song Xiao was smacked in the face out of nowhere. He raised his hand to grab it, and just as he was about to get mad, he realised that it was money, and immediately changed his tune. “Thanking the emperor for the great favour.”

Little Theater

Fish Tang: Is this enough to buy you for a night?

Xiaoxiao: (Stubborn) Shameless!

Fish Tang: Then how can I obtain you?

Xiaoxiao: Add another two thousand

Fish Tang: …
