Chapter 69 - Encountering Danger

Song Xiao glanced at him, ignored him, and bowed his head to put away the qin.

“Xiao, you’re too amazing! You really are our club’s angel!” Wearing a furry velvet mascot suit, Emily looked at the case full of USD. She was so excited, and threw herself at Song Xiao with the intention of giving him an enthusiastic kiss.

Yu Tang raised his hand and grabbed the back of the collar of that overly pa.s.sionate girl, and dragged that huge furry velvet mascot away.

Emily turned her head to glare at him resentfully, but when she saw Yu Tang’s face, the anger in her chest promptly disappeared. “Mister, the performance has already ended.”

Yu Tang lifted his gaze to look at Song Xiao, but Song Xiao pretended not to recognise him.

“However, if you want to take a group photo, I can take one with you!” Emily said with a smile.

Yu Tang expressionlessly glanced at her, then continued to stare at Song Xiao. “Come with me.”

“Ah, I got my scholars.h.i.+p!” Gao Ao suddenly shouted as he waved his arms about.

He drew everyone’s attention, and they all looked at him. Gao Ao’s grades were very good, but his family situation wasn’t, so he had applied for scholars.h.i.+ps both in the US and China.

“Congrats, Orlando!” Emily went over in her large stuffed suit to embrace him.

“Song Xiao, I have something to say to you.” After Gao Ao’s happiness pa.s.sed, he went over and called out to Song Xiao, his eyes filled with impatience.

Song Xiao was currently quarreling with Yu Tang and was unwilling to leave with him. He also wanted to hear what Gao Ao had to say, so he put down the qin and walked over to the side with Gao Ao.

This plaza was very big, and Gao Ao seemed reluctant to let their other schoolmates hear what he had to say, so he led Song Xiao to the edge of the plaza.

Song Xiao furrowed his brow slightly, and turned his head to give Yu Tang a look.

Yu Tang had been staring at him unblinkingly, and seeing Song Xiao look over, his eyes flashed and he immediately brought Dugu An with him as they stealthily followed after.

Next to the plaza was a large road with people going back and forth along it. It was rather noisy, so naturally, no one would be able to clearly hear their conversation.

Gao Ao answered a call. “I’m not doing this anymore, all of you are too troublesome.” When he was done speaking, he hung up and looked at Song Xiao in disdain.

“What did you want to say?” Song Xiao was in a bad mood to begin with, and with this person inexplicably giving him such a look, he was immediately compelled to get angry.

“You rich children really are delicate.” Gao Ao seemed to be at the end of his patience. “I’ve gotten my scholars.h.i.+p. I won’t be doing your family’s business anymore; tell them not to contact me from now on.”

“What business?” Song Xiao realised that this wasn’t a simple matter. Someone used the Song family name to strike a deal with Gao Ao?

“Tsk. You still don’t know? Your mom gave me money to report your whereabouts everyday. It really is incomprehensible.” Gao Ao sneered as he took out 300 USD from his pocket and threw it at Song Xiao. “I don’t want the balance either. I didn’t complete the task for this week, so I’m returning you the money. It’s got nothing to do with me after this.”

“My mom?” Song Xiao’s eyes widened. “My mom died many years ago.”

“Ah?” Gao Ao’s mouth dropped. “Then that&#k2026;” Just as he was about to raise his hand to show Song Xiao his handphone, the rumble of a car suddenly rang out. The two of them raised their heads and saw a beat-up, off-road vehicle charging forward wildly.

“AH&#k2014;” The people in the plaza screamed loudly. It was broad daylight, but the car’s headlights were on. When Song Xiao shut his eyes at the glare, that car had already come careening over with a loud screech.

At the end of the day, the car was going at over 200kmph. There basically wasn’t time to dodge it at all; before anyone could react, the car was already headed straight for Song Xiao.

If he was. .h.i.t by this car, he would well and truly be sent flying. Even if he didn’t die, he would still suffer serious injuries.

“Bang!” With a loud sound, the car which had driven into the center of the plaza crashed into a stone statue at the side, its front violently smashed in.

“Xiao!” The members of the Angels Club ran over in a hurry and anxiously looked for Song Xiao.

In that split second just now, n.o.body dared to look as they thought that they would see blood painting the sky. Who would have thought that when they raised their heads to take a look, Song Xiao was standing ten meters away from the car, perfectly fine. Next to him was the boy who had tossed in money earlier as well as the latter’s attendant.

When the car had been less than a meter away from Song Xiao, a black figure had flashed over and instantly pulled Song Xiao out of the way before rolling across the ground. He shot to his feet after that, and pus.h.i.+ng off lightly on his toes, he retreated over seven or eight meters away. It was the loyal secret guard. When Dugu An pulled Song Xiao back to a safe place, he had conveniently tossed the latter into the emperor’s embrace. A thin blade had appeared between his fingertips, and Dugu An flung it with a whoosh.

One of the tires of the car, which had initially been prepared to flee, immediately exploded with a ‘bang’, and hitting the emergency brake, the driver had crashed into the stone statue on the side.

“Are you hurt?” Yu Tang hugged Song Xiao tightly and felt him for injuries.

Song Xiao’s complexion was pale, and he shook his head slowly. Everyone watching couldn’t feel it, but he had distinctly sensed how dangerous it was as he stood there; even a stronger person wouldn’t be able to bear that terrible force.

In a moment, that beat-up off-road vehicle stopped, and a large, Caucasian man stumbled out with a bleeding head. He looked left and right, and was going to run, but Dugu An promptly pressed him to the ground.

“Hey, what are you doing?!” The man yelled loudly as he struggled. He clearly had a muscular build and was over 190cm tall, yet he actually couldn’t throw off that pair of seemingly weak hands.

Sirens blared as a police car rushed over, and a few police officers came over to investigate the situation.

“Officer, help, this is a.s.sault!” The large man’s yelling drew the police over.

“What’s going on?” Seeing that a Caucasian man was pressed to the ground with several Asians surrounding him, the officer asked solemnly, “We received a report that there was a car accident here. What’s going on with all of you?”

“Officer, that man drove his car into the crowd and almost hit my schoolmate!” Wearing a princess dress, the president lifted his skirt to run over and point at the person on the ground as he spoke.

The officer looked at the president’s pink lipstick and facial hair, and he trembled. “Alright, let go of him first. We’ll look into it.”

The person stood up and said with an innocent face, “I lost control of my car, and when I tried to drive my car toward the plaza, who knew that someone would already be standing there?”

The officer looked at the white man with a bleeding face, then looked at Song Xiao, who was completely unharmed. Seeing that he was Asian and appeared to be a foreign exchange student, he wanted to downplay the incident and dupe Song Xiao. “Then, were there any casualties?”

“No, I’m the one with the worst injuries!” the large man said self-righteously.

“Alright then, since there weren’t any casualties, I’ll have the car towed away and appraised. Since you crashed into a statue, you’ll probably have to pay the damages.” The officer simply wrote a few words in his notebook, then called for his fellows to regroup.

“Mr Officer, this was clearly a premeditated murder attempt!” Song Xiao raised his hand and stopped the officer, who was turning around to leave.

“Premeditated murder? Kid, you must’ve been frightened silly, right?” The large man sneered and lifted his hand to push Song Xiao.

Dugu An caught his wrist, and something snapped with a crack.

“AH—” The big man screamed loudly at how painful it was.

“Hey, what are you doing?!” The officer roared at Dugu An, before he checked the man’s injury.

The man’s hand drooped limply as he screamed incessantly.

“It’s probably dislocated.” Gao Ao pushed up his gla.s.ses and walked over. As a medical student, this was something he could figure out, but he didn’t have any plans to help reset it, and merely looked at the man coldly.

“You, follow us to the station.” The officer pointed unhappily at Dugu An to come along.

“Wait a moment, officers.” Gao Ao had returned to his senses from the fright just now, and started to stir things up with his math genius. “According to my observations, when this car rushed into the plaza, he absolutely had time to turn the steering wheel to avoid Song Xiao, but he didn’t. Furthermore, I was standing next to Song Xiao, yet this car didn’t crash into me.”

“What are you trying to say?” The police officer frowned.

“What I’m saying is that this car could’ve been controlled at that time. He was intentionally trying to crash into Song Xiao!” Gao Ao took the officer’s notebook, and with two or three strokes, he drew out a model to estimate the car’s route and speed. Based on his calculations, this car had sped up at least 300m away. If the car truly had lost control, according to the speed of the person’s reaction, he definitely had the chance to turn the steering wheel.

This explanation stumped the police officer. Their maths wasn’t good in general, and the officers couldn’t understand the complicated formula which Gao Ao put forward at all; it just felt very amazing to them.

“Ok, young sir, we’ll take your a.n.a.lysis into consideration.” Seeing that more and more spectators were gathering round, the officer didn’t want to linger any longer, and hastily put an end to things as he took the severely injured large man with him and called for an ambulance to treat his wounds.

“We can’t let this matter go just like that.” Yu Tang looked at that beat-up off-road vehicle, then looked at the cursing man with narrowed eyes.

“Maybe I know who did it.” Song Xiao walked over to Gao Ao and looked at him quietly. “The woman you were in contact with, did she tell you her name?”

“I don’t know; she just said that she was your mother.” Gao Ao was startled. “If your mom is already dead, then who was the one I was in contact with?”

Before Gao Ao left the country, someone had looked for him, saying that she was Song Xiao’s mother, and that the stubborn child didn’t like to contact his family. She was worried that he would suffer outside, so she wanted to find a schoolmate to look after him. The other party knew that Gao Ao’s family situation wasn’t good, so she offered to give him 300 USD every week and just wanted him to report Song Xiao’s whereabouts every day.

This really was a good way for Gao Ao to earn money, but after Song Xiao moved out of the dorm, there was less information he could obtain. He wound up saying the same few sentences every day, and the other party had started to become dissatisfied. Gao Ao didn’t have the patience to do this in the first place. He was someone who wanted to devote himself wholeheartedly to his studies, and when he received his scholars.h.i.+p today, he immediately quit.

“Heh, it’s probably the one who wants to become my stepmother.” Song Xiao laughed grimly. He had always been just a high schooler back in China; who could he have offended? Song Zicheng contacted him every day, and wouldn’t do this sort of senseless thing. In that case, the only one who would proclaim themselves his mother was Qiu Mingyan.

After an investigation of the crash, it was discovered that there truly was a problem with the car’s brakes, and there wasn’t any evidence to prove that the driver had wanted to run into Song Xiao, so the officials ruled it an accident. Because there weren’t any casualties, this matter was left unsettled.

Seeing that everything was fine, the large man was about to leave, but Yu Tang stopped him. “Sir, my little brother dislocated your hand. Give me your bank account number; I’ll give you some compensation.”

“Uh…” The man hesitated, but after thinking about it, he still wrote down an account number and snorted. “Since you’re so tactful.”

Yu Tang pa.s.sed the small slip to Dugu An, and coldly watched the man leave the station.

Going back, Song Xiao didn’t follow the others, and instead took Yu Tang’s car.

Yu Tang held his family’s empress tightly, and didn’t speak for a long while.

Song Xiao lowered his head to look at his phone. Gao Ao had sent him a bunch of photos: they were pictures of the scene at the time, as well as the conclusion he had come up with.

“Before the new bodyguards arrive, you can’t leave my side.” Yu Tang took away Song Xiao’s phone and gripped his chin to turn Song Xiao’s face in his direction.

Song Xiao slapped away his hand and lowered his head to continue looking at his phone.

After another bout of silence, Yu Tang pursed his lips. “It was my fault this morning. Later… zhen will bestow you with a new one.”
