Chapter 32 - Miscarriage

“What is the meaning of this?” When the news conference ended, Song Zicheng dragged Zhuo Jingjing into the car and coldly interrogated her.

“What else can I do?” Zhuo Jingjing covered her face and cried. “You looking to talk to me today, isn’t it because you want me to get rid of the child?”

Song Zicheng fell silent; so it turned out things took a turn for the worse because of his phone call last night. “I was just going to discuss it with you. Did I push you to get an abortion? Look at what you’ve done. Declaring it in front of all the media – do you think you’ll scare me this way?”

Zhuo Jingjing lifted her head and met Song Zicheng’s furious eyes. She was also inwardly a little scared. After all, this man had mingled around in the entertainment circle for so many years. Even though he had his weaknesses, he didn’t lack in skills and connections. If Zhuo Jingjing truly offended him, it would be very easy for him to destroy her.

Zhuo Jingjing gritted her teeth. From being a little C-list star, she had made it to the top through her connections, and had suffered much bitterness. If she didn’t have a strong backer, her path would still be a rocky one in the future, so she had to give it her all. Zhuo Jingjing tugged on Song Zicheng’s hand and cried bitterly until she lost her voice. “I was wrong. I just love you too much. Back then, when I found out that you wanted to marry Qiu Mingyan, I went crazy. I didn’t care what method I used, I just couldn’t let you marry someone else…”

Song Xiao and his grandpa were watching the live TV broadcast at home, and realised that things were going to get worse. Sure enough, Song Zicheng called at noon to say that this matter was a little troublesome and he had to placate Zhuo Jingjing first.

“This disappointment!” Laoyezi angrily threw down the cup in his hand.

Song Xiao narrowed his eyes and felt that the matter wasn’t that simple. If Zhuo Jingjing was truly planning to rely on the child to marry into the family, why had she fallen in his direction back then?

The next morning, Song Xiao opened the door and saw that there was an extra person in the living room.

Dressed in extremely elegant and proper attire, and carrying gifts large and small, Zhuo Jingjing was smiling as she sat on the sofa and talked with Song laoyezi, who had an icy expression on his face. Song Zicheng had gone out early in the morning to deal with company matters, and only the old man and Auntie Chen were in the house.

Pulling back his foot from where he had just stepped out of the door, Song Xiao closed the door and then dialled Song Zheng’s number.

The first time, Song Zheng hung up directly. Song Xiao dialled again, and only then did Song Zheng pick up.

“What?” Song Zheng asked impatiently.

“Let me tell you some good news.” Song Xiao’s tone was very cheerful. “Zhuo Jingjing came today to visit my grandpa.”

Hanging up, Song Xiao then waited in his room for a long time until he heard the sounds of Song Zicheng’s return. Only then did Song Xiao unhurriedly walk downstairs.

“Why are you here?” Song Zicheng was utterly astonished when he saw Zhuo Jingjing, and in the face of Song laoyezi’s frosty demeanor, he immediately felt somewhat embarra.s.sed.

“Yesterday, I heard that laoyezi was here, so I came to visit.” Darting a glance at Song Xiao coming down the stairs out of the corner of her eye, Zhuo Jingjing continued to say, “Also, I had some misunderstanding with Xiaoxiao last time, so I wanted to come and apologize to him.”

Song Xiao slowly walked over and sat by his grandpa.

“Xiaoxiao, this is a present for you.” When Zhuo Jingjing saw Song Xiao, she immediately stood up, picked up a box that was wrapped finely, and pa.s.sed it to him. “I greeted you thoughtlessly on set last time and caused you to feel wronged; auntie apologizes.”

Song Xiao didn’t even look at the present, and raised his chin slightly. “Put it on the table ba.”

Zhuo Jingjing felt a little awkward holding the gift bag. She gave Song Zicheng an aggrieved look, then put the present down.

Song laoyezi watched this byplay disapprovingly and he coughed lightly. “I’m very pleased that Miss Zhuo was able to come visit this old man, but there are some things I have to say beforehand.”

Song Zicheng opened his mouth to say something, but subsided at his father’s glare.

“Our Song family likes grandsons, but we won’t accept a conniving woman into the family just for one.” Grandpa Song hit the ground with his cane. “You’re young and you have good future prospects; why would you insist on becoming someone else’s stepmother?”

Zhuo Jingjing’s face turned red at these words, and she couldn’t maintain her expression. She lowered her head to hide the moodiness in her eyes, and when she raised it again, large drops of tears fell. “Laoyezi, I sincerely like Zicheng. Furthermore, this is my first child; I can’t bear to…”

As she spoke, Zhuo Jingjing stood up and tried to take Song Xiao’s hand. “Xiaoxiao, auntie didn’t do well in the past. Can you give auntie a chance?”

Song Xiao put his hand behind his back and hid next to his grandpa.

When laoyezi saw his grandson’s reaction, he got even angrier. “Don’t touch Xiaoxiao!”

This child used to have autism and didn’t like contact with people; when someone touched him, he would become nervous.

Song Xiao narrowed his eyes. He had heard Auntie Chen speak of this body’s original habits: when a stranger touched him, he would struggle. As someone who had dated Song Zicheng for this long, Zhuo Jingjing couldn’t not know.

Right at that moment, there was sudden knocking on the door. Song Xiao stood up and avoided Zhuo Jingjing as he went to open the door. Outside was Qiu Mingyan and her daughter.

As soon as Song Xiao opened the door, the both of them rushed in.

“Zhuo Jingjing, you s.l.u.t!” Qiu Mingyan ran over, grabbed Zhuo Jingjing’s hair, and jerked her head back.

“Ahh—” Zhuo Jingjing shrieked as she struggled.

In the past, Qiu Mingyan had relied on her seniority and her status as the boss’s lover to bully Zhuo Jingjing often. Angered to the point of breaking, Zhuo Jingjing went and fooled around with Song Zicheng. Later, Zhuo Jingjing made explosive allegations to ruin Qiu Mingyan’s future prospects, then depended on her pregnancy to demand that Song Zicheng marry her. With their old and new animosities combined, they immediately came to blows.

Song Zheng also plunged into the fighting ring to help her mother beat up Zhuo Jingjing.

Looking at this scene, Song laoyezi shook his head.

Looking at the outrageous scene, Song Zicheng reached out to separate them, but got scratched by the two red-eyed women.

“Ah!” Amid the chaos, Zhuo Jingjing suddenly let out a wretched shriek and slid to the floor. “Baby, my baby…”

Blood flowed down her legs from under her short skirt, quickly dyeing the carpet red. Everyone froze.

“What are you s.p.a.cing out for, hurry up and send her to the hospital!” Song laoyezi banged the ground with his cane; only then did everyone come back to life.

Song Xiao, who had been coldly watching on as a bystander from start to finish, didn’t look at the woman with her legs spread on the floor, He said to Song Zicheng, “You have to go to the hospital and have her properly examined.”

When Zhuo Jingjing heard this, she struggled to say, “Don’t– don’t go to a public hospital… G- go to Dayu Maternity Hospital…”

A public hospital had many people and even more eyes, and was indeed unsuitable. Dayu Maternity Hospital was a private hospital with excellent privacy, so it made sense for Zhuo Jingjing to request to go there.

It was another complete mess, and Song Zicheng sent Zhuo Jingjing to the hospital. Qiu Mingyan and Song Zheng didn’t dare stay for long, and also left. Only the grandfather and grandson were left in the house.

Grandpa Song looked at the bloodstained carpet and let out a long sigh. “What’s going on here?”

Song Xiao took note of the ‘Dayu Maternity Hospital’ that everyone spoke of. This name sounded somewhat familiar, and seemed as if it was under the same umbrella as ‘Dayu Amus.e.m.e.nt Park’.

Yu Tang was currently feeling bored in the garden as he played with the dog. “Zhang Xiaoren, go fetch that ball.”

Huskies were always dim-witted; it chased after the ball and caught it, but didn’t know how to bring it back. It happily held the ball in its mouth and ran around.

“Stupid dog.” Yu Tang scoffed. Dugu An, who wasn’t far away, suddenly ran over and handed him the handphone, which was ringing. With one look at the name on the screen, Yu Tang’s spirits immediately lifted.

“Does your family run Dayu Maternity Hospital?” Song Xiao’s voice sounded on the phone.

“Yes ah, you can tell from ‘Dayu’ those two characters.” Zhang Xiaoren had come over, and Yu Tang kicked it away as he concentrated on talking to his empress.

“Then, can you help me check something?” Song Xiao felt somewhat embarra.s.sed. Entrusting this sort of shameful matter of the inner residence to the emperor was really overkill. But besides Yu Tang, he really didn’t know who else to ask for help. Zhuo Jingjing was a very shrewd woman; even though she couldn’t blame him for her miscarriage, it was possible that there would be other repercussions, so he should be on guard before that.

Over in Dayu Maternity Hospital, Zhuo Jingjing was curled up in a sickbed as she wept. On the side, the doctor gravely told Song Zicheng that the child was no more.

“My child, wu…” Zhuo Jingjing cried as she repeated the words. This was her first child, and it was gone, just like that.

Song Zicheng felt some pity regarding the child, but even more than that, he felt a weight off his shoulders “I’ll compensate you.”

After all, when he and Zhuo Jingjing got together, she had still been a pure and innocent young woman. She had conceived and lost a child for him, which made him feel truly apologetic.

Zhuo Jingjing covertly gave the doctor a meaningful glance, then buried her face in her arms to hide her unwillingness. If Song Xiao had pushed her, she could use that to threaten Song Zicheng into marrying her. Unfortunately for her, that b.i.t.c.h Qiu Mingyan had done it. The two of them were extremely hostile toward each other to begin with, so what was the use of that?

Dr. Zhang Yanan was Zhuo Jingjing’s bestie, and had helped issue her a fake diagnosis book. It was clearly written that this was Zhuo Jingjing’s first miscarriage, and included in it was the results of the examination that the hospital would give each time.

Holding the examination report, Yu Tang couldn’t help sneering. As expected, this Song Zicheng was still a blundering fool, no matter what lifetime it was.

“Tangtang, why do you want a medical file from the hospital?” Dayu Maternity Hospital was a project managed by Yu Tang’s mother. Since Yu Tang wanted to take a look at a medical file, the hospital would ask her about it first.

“My deskmate’s father has a mistress, who wants to blame her miscarriage on my deskmate. I’m worried about him being lied to, so I want to check and see if there are any problems.” Yu Tang spoke in half-lies and half-truths. His mother empress didn’t like people who were overly suspicious. In his last life, Song Xiao had gained her favor because of his silly and blank manner.

His Majesty the emperor still regarded Song Xiao as silly and blank, but in any case, a child at that age shouldn’t be so meticulous in his calculations.

Mother Yu picked up the medical file for a look, then furrowed her brow at ‘habitual miscarriages’ – these were more likely to be repeated abortions.

“What a pitiful child. Hurry up and tell him that it wasn’t his fault.” Mother Yu sympathized with Song Xiao, whom she had yet to meet. Upon hearing that he was Yu Tang’s only good friend in school, her heart went out to him even more. “Let him come over and do his homework at our place in the next two days, and have him stay far away from those people.”

Brilliant mother empress! In his heart, Yu Tang quietly kowtowed in grat.i.tude to his mother empress, and when he returned to his room, he called Song Xiao. “The empress dowager summons you.”
