Chapter 118 - Seizing Power
“Son! My son ah!” Before Yu laoyezi could react, third grandfather had already rushed over from the side to hug seventh uncle. He had already lost a daughter and mourned a son in his old age. If it wasn’t because he still had one more daughter to support him, he feared that he might have departed with his son.
Now that his son had suddenly returned, the pleasant surprise was truly too great for third grandfather. He was simply as happy as a child as he pulled on his son and looked him up and down.
“Dad!” Seventh uncle also hugged third grandfather emotionally. He had never seen his father so moved, and seventh uncle, who was almost fifty, experienced a strong fatherly love for the first time.
Yu Taixian was rooted to the spot as he stared at his wheelchair-bound son in shock.
Yu Fu raised a hand and indicated for the bodyguard behind him to push him forward. He called out softly, “Dad.”
“You’re not dead.” Yu laoyezi stretched out a trembling hand to touch Yu Fu’s head. “Your legs…”
Previously, Yu Tang’s dad and seventh uncle had flown to America on a private plane. The plane exploded not long after they took off, but they hadn’t actually died. It was just that the sea was freezing, and they had gotten frostbite. Seventh uncle’s spleen was injured, and it was a long time before they were rescued. Now, he had to sit in a wheelchair because of his frail health, while Yu Fu’s legs had frostbite and he couldn’t walk for the time being.
“It’s not serious, I’ll be able to get up after recuperating for a year and a half,” Yu Fu said indifferently, before he glanced at the ashen-faced Yu Lang standing behind Yu laoyezi. “Xiao Lang, aren’t you going to greet gege?”
Yu Lang stood straight stiffly and forced out a smile. “Ge…”
“I don’t dare be your ge. Hearing you call me that now, I feel scared from the bottom of my heart.” Yu Fu laughed coldly and raised his hand. The bodyguard behind him took out a black box and placed it on the table.
Yu Lang was about to say something, but promptly panicked when he saw the black box. Before he could defend himself, the sound recording inside began to play automatically.
“Ge, don’t panic, did you press that b.u.t.ton just now? I’ve frequently used this plane before, and you’ll be fine if you press the emergency brake b.u.t.ton. It’s the fourth b.u.t.ton from the bottom on your right. Do you see it? You have to press it for the parachute!” Yu Lang’s voice emerged clearly, and it sounded very calm.
There didn’t sound like anything was wrong with this recording; it just sounded like a concerned little brother earnestly helping out his big brother when he heard that there was a malfunction on the plane, but Yu Taixian began to tremble.
“Ninth uncle actually knew about the plane accident from the beginning. Then why did you look so shocked when the news reached America?” Yu Tang looked at Yu Lang with a smile that wasn’t a smile. This was a habit of his in both lives: when something big happened, the very first thing he did wasn’t to deal with it in a fl.u.s.ter, but to calmly observe the reactions of the people around him.
Because in many cases, the main culprit was often at the scene.
Yu Taixian’s hands began to tremble. He had given that private plane to his son, and he was very clear on the operating system – the fourth b.u.t.ton on the right wasn’t the emergency brake at all. Moreover, if Yu Fu had already made contact the instant something happened to the plane, why didn’t Yu Lang tell him immediately?
How could the Yu family head, who had gone through a lifetime of ups and down, not understand what was going on? He turned to look at Yu Lang. “Unfilial son! Kneel!”
“Dad, I didn’t tell you at that time because I was scared you would be worried. There was no news after I spoke to brother, I…” Before Yu Lang could finish speaking, Yu Taixian slapped him, and he fell to the floor.
“You’re still making excuses?!” Yu Taixian was so angry he was gasping for breath, and he fell backwards directly. Butler Cao hastily supported him and calmed him down.
“Yu Lang isn’t capable enough to do this on his own.” Seventh uncle finally spoke up after receiving enough affection from his father. “The two of us just returned from America. Ol’ Fourth has already been arrested.”
“What did you say?” Yu Taixian turned his head to look at seventh uncle.
Back when Yu Tang found his two elders and made the proper arrangements, he had started to thoroughly investigate this matter. It just so happened that the person who had investigated second uncle had yet to withdraw, so the man continued to follow the trail that was Yu Lang. It was Yu Lang who came up with the plan for the plane explosion, but he himself didn’t possess any power, and had no way of accomplis.h.i.+ng such a huge operation – it was fourth uncle who set things in motion.
What shocked Yu Taixian wasn’t that Ol’ Fourth had partic.i.p.ated in this matter, but that he had no idea that these two had gone to America to handle Ol’ Fourth!
“Grandpa is old now, and should just pay attention to your grandsons. Just let father’s generation deal with their own matters ba.” Yu Tang smiled innocently and reached out behind him, wiggling his fingers.
Song Xiao looked at him, then obediently put his hand in Yu Tang’s.
Yu Tang had publicly displayed his affection online in such a high profile manner and firmly refused to repent over the phone, which had caused Yu laoyezi to come to China himself to supervise their breakup. After agreeing to break up, Yu Tang took this opportunity to obtain the doc.u.ments for the transfer of the Yu family’s power in China, and later stalled for time with the ball. Thus, while the family head’s attention was focused on matchmaking, Yu Fu personally went to America to deal with fourth uncle Yu Chuan.
From beginning to end, everything had been in Yu Tang’s control. The most frightening thing, furthermore, was that when Yu Chuan was arrested, Yu Taixian actually didn’t receive any news about it at all!
“Great, great, great!” Yu Taixian smiled coldly. “You’ve grown up, and all of you have learnt to bypa.s.s me when you do things, is that right?”
“I just didn’t want to worry grandpa, that’s all.” Yu Tang pulled Song Xiao to stand beside him.
Fourth uncle had control of Dayu Capital, which could be said to be the most important position in the Yu family business. If the family head was directly informed of this matter, Yu Taixian’s way of dealing with it was very possibly to bide his time and slowly take back the power that was in fourth uncle’s hands, before punis.h.i.+ng him according to the clan’s rules. As for Yu Lang, a son who was born in Yu Taixian’s old age, it was very possible that this huge incident might be downplayed.
Of course, this was just conjecture. Yu Tang’s style of doing things had always been to leave no room for error. If he wanted to do something, it had to be done cleanly, and he wouldn’t give the other party a chance to turn the tide.
“Hahaha, as expected of my own grandson, hahaha, sure enough, Tangtang, you’re bold!” Yu Taixian suddenly began to laugh, and he patted Yu Tang enthusiastically on the shoulder. “It seems that this old me can be at ease.”
There were nine brothers in Father Yu’s generation. The dead were dead, and the ruined were ruined. The only whole ones now were fourth uncle and Yu Lang, but fourth uncle had been arrested, and given Yu Lang’s morality and conduct, he couldn’t amount to anything. The position of family head was still best left to Yu Taixian’s grandson’s generation. Moreover, the capability which Yu Tang had displayed today already far exceeded that of his male cousins.
“Ninth uncle is an American citizen, and has to be handed over to America’s judicial authorities.” Yu Tang jerked his chin, and two bodyguards on the side immediately stepped out to detain Yu Lang.
Yu Taixian frowned. “I’ll deal with this matter myself. Tangtang, grandpa has already seen your capability. As long as you’re willing to wed a woman and have a normal marriage, this position of family head will be given to you.” With that, he raised his hand, and the bodyguards stood to attention in unison and waited for orders.
Both sides were speaking in a dignified manner, but everyone was incredibly tense. This atmosphere wasn’t friendly at all. Yu Taixian restrained his anger. This grandson’s capability truly was outstanding, but he didn’t really think much of the family head at all, and didn’t give him any respect; Yu Taixian didn’t know who actually held the power here.
Holding Song Xiao’s hand, Yu Tang stepped forward and slowly knelt before Yu Taixian. “Grandpa, in this life, I only want Song Xiao alone. It’s fine if you concede and it’s fine if you don’t. I won’t marry anyone else. If this causes you to feel unhappy, I hope you’re willing to forgive this unfilial grandson.”
Song Xiao knelt as well, both of them touching their heads to the floor together for Yu Taixian.
Yu Taixian was still trembling, and he turned to look at Yu Fu. “You don’t care?”
Yu Fu covered his face with a hand. “The two of them have knelt before me already.”
Yu Taixian clutched his chest. “No way! Lu Guozhong, take Tang shaoye upstairs and send Young Master Song out!”
The great general walked forward and wordlessly stood behind Yu Tang while the bodyguards remained fixed in place, not a single one of them moving.
“Laoyezi, is this worth the trouble? It’s not like the Yu family head absolutely must have a biological son. It’s not like you can give your position to your great-grandchild ma.” Supporting the family head, Cao Gonggong calmed him down and gave him advice in a warm and low tone.
Yu Taixian looked around. Even the bodyguards and the butler who had followed him for twenty years weren’t listening to him, so what else was there to say? Suddenly, he had the overwhelming, dismal feeling of having lost power, and he took a deep breath. “Worthy of being my grandson… Perfectly ruthless, perfectly decisive…” Saying that, he had yet to let out the anger he had been stifling in his chest, when his eyes rolled back and he fainted.
Little Theater
Fish Tang: Grandpa, I want to marry him, do you consent?
Grandpa: I don’t!
Fish Tang: Ok. Xiaoxiao, let’s go get married ba
Grandpa: You’re still getting married without my consent, then what was the point in asking me?
Fish Tang: Oh, just asking casually
